2 Dear friends, Here comes Announcement 3. 1 Next Announcement will probably issued at the end of July or else very early in August, with additional last minute information. I would like that you now reply, as soon as possible, to the following questions. 1. Whether you intend to,end or not. If possible, give me also your time of arrival and departure. 2. If your answer should be NO, please, indicate also if you still wish to receive these announcements. 3. Whether you request to stay in one of our University s guest rooms (they are rather limited in case). If so I am trying to make a reservation for you. In the opposite case you are supposed to make yourself a hotel reservation, by calling them (see Section 2.2). 4.Tell me, at least tentatively, if you wish to take part in the Excursion to Kåseberga on Friday August 19 (see Section 4). 1 Scientific program 1.1 Two sections 1. Trilinear forms (Room 309B) 2. Interpolation (Room 309C) Beware, these two topics are related! In addition, a special 3. flute section (Room 228) 1.2 Talks We could afford a few more talks this time. But no talk should exceed 20 minutes. 3 1.2.1 Crash-courses This are topics selected specially by the grganizing Committee. So far the following names and topics have come up for discussion: Jonathan Arazy, Operator means Michael Cwikel, Interpolation Per Nilsson, Interpolation Jaak Peetre, Introduction to quaternion trilinear forms Probably the shop will start with the above mentioned talk by me (in Room 309B) Monday afternoon Manuscripts Speakers, irrelevant of which of these two (three?) categories they belong, should send me their manuscript, written in LaTeX, not more than 5 pages, in good time for the shop. Participants could also send me their problems, written in LaTeX, now not more than 2 pages. Probably we could publish all this as a report of our Centre. 2 Practical things 2.1 Financial support As stated in previous Announcements 1 and 2, I asked the Royal Swedish Academy of Science (KVA) for support of the travel of some of the participants, and lo! and behold! my application has been approved, so now sufficient funds are located at least for the travel of the Luleå people. Otherwise, I could also, in cases of great need, use my own research grant, albeit this is a strictly finite quantity, to provide with at least some limited support. In this case, let me know how much you need in Euros (1 Euro 10 SEK). I have to see to what extent I can satisfy it. If it is has not been told before, this is a very low budget meeting! 2 I have recently obtained new results in the quaternion case 3

4 2.2 Accomodation 1. Guest rooms. Our Department (MNF) has two guestrooms at the price 100 SEK a night, which is rather low compared to hotel prices. Indeed, I have managed to arrange with our board that they will be free for the participants of our Workshop! In addition, we will probably also be available guest rooms of some other departments. So far we have been promised 4 guest rooms ( the ones of our Centre), which have been reserved for the Luleå people, and Arazy. But a few more could probably be acquired. Please, write to me if anyone else requests this alternative. 2. Hotels. There are plenty of them in the Lund area. Here is a short list with the prices of single bed room indicated, and listing also street address and phone number (for more information call thr hotel; the area code for lund is (0)46; for calls from outside Lund, drop the zero): Hotel Ahlström, Skomakaregatan 3, (695 SEK, now shower and WC in the room). Concordia, Stålbrogatan 1, (1055 SEK) Grand Hotel, Bantorget 1, (1625 SEK) Hotell IDEON Gästeri, Sölvegatan 25, (985 SEK) Hotel Lundia, Knut den store torg 1, (1625 SEK) Hotell Sparta, Tuna vägen 39, (600 SEK) Remark 1 Some of the hotels in Lund have a special agreement with our University, and some prices above are such reduced prices. But you must tell yourself, while making your reservation, that you are a guest of the University. It is advisable to make your reservation as soon as possible. Please, notify where you are going to stay. 3 Arrival and local arrangements You must let the Organizing Committee know the expected time of your arrival. 3.1 Location All activities will take place in the Mathematics Building. Location: Sölvegatan 18, Lund. 4

5 3.2 Opening hours The Building will be open between 7.00 and 20.00, the Department between 7.40 and Those equipped with a plastic card and a key have access at any time. 3.3 Library Our excellent library will be available to the participants. Those staying in the guest rooms will have a key to it. If you do not have a key, please ask any of them or else a staff member. 3.4 Computers All participoants will probably get a code to our SUN-computers, In this way I can announce the program, each morning, on my web-site, 3.5 Meals We are going to have, on each working day Monday-Thursday, a working lunch at Restaurang Ideon (address: Ole Römers väg 16; Phone: ). We are going to walk there all together. Meal tickets will be distributed on location. 3.6 Kitchen In addition, all participants, not only those staying in the guest rooms. are free to use the kitchen on the 4th floor. But do not forget to wash your dishes! If not, I will have to do it myself!! 3.7 Weather in Sweden is highly unpredictable. But August usually is a pleasant month, at least on our southern most peninsula Scania (Skåne, Schonen) with a lot of sun, daily maxima between 15 and 20 C. But it may rain, even for days (as we witnessed in August, 2003). So come well equipped, bringing worm clothing and a raincoat; as it often is windy, so umbrellas are of limited use. 5

6 4 Option: On the day after the closing of the official part (Friday 19 August, 2005), an excursion to Kåseberga, site of the Residence of Eila and Jaak. As I am not rich, it has to be on everybody s own expense. Visit Ale s stones, a world famous pre-historic monument (c. 5th or 6th century A.D.). Visit the harbour of Kåseberga, with a smokery. There used to be two of them, but one of the was destroyed in a fire in 2003 right before Xmas, but a fish restaurant (on the site of the burnt down smokery) is under construction on the same site, and will open mid June.) Also several small shops for tourists. Visit Eila s garden. Some botanical rarities 3 : Pterocarya fraxinifolia; Sorbus Ulungdo, Caucasian sallow; Morus nigra, mulberry tree; more than 400 roses [albeit, not flowering in August!]. Supper at the fish restaurant, or at another local restaurant. There are also some places where there is served Bread & Breakfest, so it is possible to stay over night. Here are two examples. Ales Smedja (Monica and Björn Monthan), Ales väg 24, Kåseberga (postal address: Löderup), (0) (405 SEK for a single person). [Es wird Deutsch gesprochen!] Café solståndet, Kasevägen 13, Löderup, (0) (339 SEK for a single person) I could assist you in making the reservation. 4.1 How to get here, and getting back I ll also investigate if it is possible to have cheap transportation from Lund. Probably, the best is to take a taxi. (If there are several passengers, they can share the cost.) If there are not so many coming, one could also consider to rent a car, provided one can leave it in Ystad. (Michael Cwikel knows how to drive there. If not, I can provide a written travel description, in English 4.) 3 For our latitude! 4 Albeit, Michael get lost! 6

7 Kåseberga is near the town of Ystad, on the line Copenhagen-Rönne, so it is ideal also for transport back to Kastrup airport. But you have to take a taxi to the railway station (about 200 SEK a person).
