1 INFOSHEET for work camp SE-IAL We are very happy to share with you the opportunity of living and working together, in the beautiful environment of our workcamp-sites. The programme co-ordinator and the camp-leader(s) will do their best for the success of the workcamp. We expect everyone to be ready to accept difficulties and face possible problems with an open mind and a good sense of humour. Here is some information about our organisation and our workcamps. ABOUT IAL (IAL) is the Swedish branch of the international peace organisation Service Civil International (SCI). IAL was founded in 1943 and has since then worked for an ecological and multicultural society characterized by solidarity, nonviolence and understanding between people. IAL is a non-profit voluntary organisation independent of religion and party-politics. ABOUT PARTNER ORGANISATION LANGUAGE The language used by all participants in our workcamps is English. You must, therefore, be able to speak and understand English well, so that you don't feel isolated! MONEY The unit of currency is the Swedish Crown (SEK) and the current equivalence is 1 Euro = 9.30 SEK. You can of course exchange Euro or other currency in any Forex or other exchange office. Usually the campsite is far away from banks if you want to exchange money, so you must have with you all the pocket money you may need, in cash. To give you an idea, a small bottle of water costs 10 SEK, the typical price of a pack of cigarettes is 25 SEK and a telephone card costs cca 25Kn. INSURANCE All volunteers coming from SCI member or partner organisations are insured against accidents for the whole duration of the workcamp. First aid and minor medical problems will be dealt by the camp-leaders. Tfn: +46 (0)

2 CULTURE Part of your experience from your participation in a workcamp, is to get to know more about each other's country, culture and background. So, it would be useful to bring some informational and recreational material from your country, to show and share with everyone else in the same workcamp with you.we will make an intercultural evening, where everybody will present his/her country, the culture and customs of it. To give you an idea, you can: describe a custom or a tale of your country present and organise a game cook a particular dish (bring recipes) sing a song or play music from your country find language games photos of your country, your home, your family and friends posters, audio tapes, CDs, movies WHAT TO BRING Smile on your face! The weather in Sweden, from June to August, is quite changing, with average tempetures C. Nevertheless, a hat, sun protection cream, sunglasses, loose and light coloured clothing are necessary. Evenings tend to be cool; a sweater will be needed. Here is a list of what we suggest to bring, apart from your personal items (i.e. toiletries and clothing): shoes and clothes for work loose clothes (preferably, old and off-handed ones), which you would not mind getting dirty during work rain coats ( maybe there will be some rain, who knows ) sandals or light shoes to wear every day hat, sunglasses, sun protection cream flash light backpack, sleeping bag and a sheet carry-mat (thin mattress to sleep on) mosquito repellent!!!!! music instruments and CDs a warm sweater and socks for the cool evenings national food and drinks and most of all, a good sense of humour and an open mind If you take any medication, bring enough supplies with you and inform your campleaders (if not specified in your application form, tell the camp leader if you have some illnesses that have to be taken in consideration). 3 CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION In order to be fully aware of your responsibilities during the workcamp, please read carefully the following: you are expected to be an active member of the group and contribute to work, housekeeping and free time activities you are expected to work six hours per day, six/five days per week, on a voluntary basis you are expected to inform camp-leader(s) in case you want to spend your free time away from the workcamp. However, you should not spend the night away from the camp, nor host other people at the workcamp your camp-leaders have been trained to run the workcamp; they are responsible for organising work, food, contacts with local authorities and many other things. Don't forget that they are volunteers like you, so try to co-operate with them at work and during free time activities. Camp-leaders are not fully responsible for organising your free time and they expect your ideas and contribution to do so. Smoking is not allowed in the accomodation areas. Use of alcohol should be moderate with consideration and only during free time. you are expected to stay for the whole duration of the workcamp. Keep in mind that the use of any kind of drugs is strickly forbidden If you need any clarifications or have any questions, contact your sending organisation in your country or IAL's office. 5 ACCOMMODATION You need a sleeping bag, of course. Toilets and showers are provided. Volunteers will be cooking for themselves. We will have every day 2 people in the kitchen-team. Costs of food are covered, but please do not expect any luxury regarding meals (bring some recipes).
