August 2016 Overnight at Hay ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.. 16 AUGUST RSL CLUB, WAGGA WAGGA Living the Adventure! Living the Adventure! is the official Club motto. It encapsulates what we do as a Club. The enthusiastic members of the Wagga Wagga Four Wheel Drive Club delight in wilderness experiences and adventure in the great outdoors. Members enjoy and care for the environment and have a positive approach to conservation which is promoted through education and setting good examples. The club encourages family activities as much as possible, with social events and regular trips to places of interest in the bush. The club is affiliated with the Recreational 4WD Clubs Association of NSW and the ACT, and supports its code of ethics.

TrackChat Hay trip (25-26 June 2016) Met up with Annette at Collingullie on Saturday morning. Along for the weekend were Tony and Carolyn, Rob, and Aaron who brought along a work mate Amos, a young man from Somalia. After discussing the intended route we would take to Hay we set off. It was decided we would travel via Old Narrandera Road to Narrandera and then along the highway to Hay to arrive in time for an early lunch. Just out of Gullie we turned off the highway, crossed the Murrumbidgee River, then on to Old Narrandera Road. After travelling along at a good pace we came across a mob of cattle grazing along the road. They were well spread out. After clearing the cattle we came across water over the road, a chance to clean the sxxx off the tyres. Hit the dirt and tried to avoid the puddles to no avail. All going good till about 20k out of Narrandera, at the Grong Grong turnoff, we came across a closed road sign. Annette turned right toward Grong Grong before realising it too was closed. After reversing back to the intersection we realised we would have to backtrack and travel via Ganmain. Aaron said he knew the way so he took the lead. Somewhere something went wrong and we ended up at Coolamon, 160 km and 2 hours after leaving Wagga. Wombat? Stopped for a pit stop before Annette took over as leader again and we continued to Narrandera where we stopped at the old brewery reserve for morning smoko. Annette was telling Carolyn about the koalas in the area when they looked up and a koala was resting in the tree we had parked under.

Volume 1, Issue 1 August 2016 Hay Trip After smoko we hit the main road towards Hay. Arrived at Hay and went to turn into the river reserve only to find the road closed. Luckily there was an all-weather road to the camping area around the corner so all was good. Camp area was a bit wet but we managed to find an area big enough without any puddles. Were surprised at how many campers were already there. Set up camp and had lunch. While having lunch another 3 vans showed up. Finished lunch about 2.00 and headed to the Shear Outback centre. Very interesting and informative. After the shearing display we headed to the maze to find our way to the centre. Myself, Carolyn and Annette did it the proper way, while Rob climbed over the fences to the middle and worked from there to the outside. After leaving the outback centre we headed into town for a coffee but found nowhere open so decided to head back to camp for one. On arriving back at camp Annette realised that if we wanted to catch the sunset at One Tree we had better leave straight away so was decided to have smoko at one tree. Arrived in time to watch the sunset, definitely worth the drive. At 3.30 the shearing demonstration was on so we all headed to the shearing shed. The shearers name was Bill and after shearing a merino he laid the fleece on the sorting table and explained how they used all pieces of the fleece from the main part which was worth about $13 a kilo to the scraps on the floor that was worth from $1 to $4. Also told us how sheep only take about 24 hours after being shorn to acclimatise. Hay Trip

August 2016 Hay Trip Continued One Tree was once a Cobb and Co stop over as well as a pub. It is being renovated into someone s house so no chance to have a look. Rob saw a mud patch leading into the pub that he couldn t ignore. Across the road from the pub was a dam so we went for a walk to it to have a look. Returned to Hay in the dark and all but Rob stopped off at the fish and chips shop to buy some tea. Fish and Scallops for Carolyn and Myself, chicken and chips for Annette and pizza for Arron and Amos. Hay Trip After tea we lit the fire and all sat around chatting while some were sipping on red wine. Because of a limited supply of wood we all went to bed at around (No more wood). DAY 2 Carolyn and myself were out of bed about 8.30, everyone else were already up. Lazy breakfast and pack up. Ready to hit the road around Vote was taken to go into town for a coffee (someone also had a pie). After finishing our drinks, and pie, we headed to the servo to top up, our detour the day before had used up a fair bit. At the servo we decided to take the back road to Darlington Point. Somehow I ended up leading. Nice drive, no traffic and country none of us had been to. Stopped off at Carrathool Bridge, very interesting. Walked across the bridge, and Rob commented we saw more traffic as we walked across the bridge then we had seen since we left Hay. Turned into a reserve on the river just before Darlington Point, where the club camp before, so crossed the lagoon, (not too deep) to see what was over that side. Unfortunately came to a large bog hole which we decided was not worth the risk, so stopped and had lunch. During lunch looked at the map for options back to Narrandera. Annette, as trip leader decided we would take the back roads to Yanco. Again I found myself in the lead. Turned off the Whitten road onto River Road which looked like a good gravel road. After about 1 km the track turned into a clay road, very boggy. I told the others to wait while I took a look to see if we could get through. After about 500 metres decided it was too boggy, especially with trailers, so did a 6 point turn, with trailer, and headed back to the rest. Only just made it back, trailer and car weighing a lot more with mud everywhere. Went back to main road and then turned off on another road about 3km up the road. right before

TrackChat Hay Trip Continued eventually arriving at Yanco. A good time was had by all. Had smoko at the park at Yanco before Annette took over as leader and led us back to Collingullie, where she said goodbye and headed towards The Rock. The rest of us headed to Wagga and home. Would like to thank Anette for leading and organising the weekend, along with Rob, Aaron and Amos for making it an enjoyable weekend.
