Some trips etc. may not have been advertised in TLCC News because the information was not available at the time of the latest publication or because they have been registered after it was issued. See the TLCC Website for all the very latest updates TLCC.COM.AU NOVEMBER 2018 TRIPS & EVENTS REGISTRATION To advertise your trip or event, it is necessary to register it with the 4WD Activities Coordinator at General Meetings or by phone, but preferably register by to 4wdtrips@tlcc.com.au Trips should be listed early to ensure inclusion in the Magazine, on the Website, Forum, Facebook and in the Coming Events Sheets. Please note: all dates, locations, destinations and events are subject to change, and are dependent upon available resources, weather and fire conditions, etc. Please always check with the listed contact for each trip or event before just attending. PLEASE NOTE If there are no course dates listed it does not mean that the course is not running, just that the next date has not been determined yet. Keep an eye on the Coming Events Sheets, or on the TLCC website and TLCC Forum for any course updates. The clubs website is used for booking on all courses. Click on the Training tab at the top of the page and then click on the Enrol into a Course tab on the left side of the page, or ask the Education Coordinator to do so for you and you will be contacted as new course dates become available. DON T FORGET! Can t make it & have to cancel? Sometimes no matter how much you want to go, something comes up and you have to cancel. No problem! But it s important to let us know. So, if you can t make it for whatever reason, do the right thing and let the Course Presenter or Trip Leader know as soon as you can. Call them on their contact number, or send an with your name, the course or trip you were booked on and the dates. It will allow someone else to go and will be greatly appreciated by all. You can also the Education Coordinator at education@tlcc.com.au with any enquires regarding the courses available or if you are interested in running any new courses which might be useful to the membership DRIVER TRAINING Recreational 4WD Driver Training Book Now!!ook Now Module 1 Dates: Tuesday Nov, 13 th 2018 Tuesday Jan, 15 th, 2019 Tuesday Feb, 12 th, Arena Sports Club, Yagoona Modules 2 & 3 Dates: Saturday & Sunday Nov 17 th - 18 th 2018 Saturday & Sunday Jan 19 th - 20 th, 2019 Saturday & Sunday Feb 16 th - 17 th, 2019 Description: This course is mandatory for people wanting to become driver trainers and/or to join the TLCC recovery team, however application for membership of either is not considered necessary as a reason for undertaking this course and completion of the course does not imply an invitation to join either team. For this course, multiple members who are currently financial and have done basic training are allowed per vehicle. The course requires physical work from every participant. We will be working on sloping ground and loose rocky and uneven surfaces while lifting and carrying equipment, hand-winching, crawling under vehicles etc. The weekend is not suitable for children. All participants will be deeply involved in the activities and away from the shed for most of the days and the course is high-risk with vehicles moving and being recovered. Front and rear recovery points are mandatory on all vehicles involved. You will need to bring your recovery gear. Minimum kit to be as per the club hand book as handed out at Basic Driver Training. Snatch strap (rated, appropriate to your vehicle). Cable dampener. 2 rated shackles 3.25 or 4.75 tonne (or one of each). Tyre-pressure gauge. Tyre deflator. Shovel. Leather work gloves (riggers gloves are best). In vehicle installed 5 watt UHF radio. Four lengths of rope, each about 1.5 times the length of your vehicle. If you have a winch you will also need. A snatch block (at least one). Cable dampener. Tree-trunk protector. Additional rated shackles. Other recommended equipment. Bridle/equaliser strap (either chain or plasma rope). Extra shackles. Rated chain.
3 SAND DRIVING Date: Bookings:. Stockton Beach Covers the basics of sand driving for the novice. Also fun for the experienced. This is a one day course. You get to drive over much of the dunes at the iconic Stockton Beach and experience all the different types of sand terrain on offer. This is a good day out and a must for those wishing to undertake desert travel or extended sand driving on beaches in South or Western Australia. BASIC AUTO ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP. Date: Minchinbury, address to be advised to participants The course is designed for members who wish to learn how to wire up accessories in a vehicle. The course will cover the theory around wire sizes, fuses, aerial cables, techniques, as well as the opportunity to work on your own vehicle with guidance. Basic electrical tools that are recommended you bring along include a soldering iron, wire cutters, and pliers. CHAINSAW Theory & Practical Dates: Extremely popular course. You will need to bring your own chainsaw for the practical component of the course. Lots of great hands on information provided by people who earn their living using chainsaws. A very strong emphasis is placed on how to safely operate a chainsaw TOWING Date: 10 th 11 th November, 2018 The course covers the theoretical and practical aspects of towing everything from box trailers to caravans. A must for anyone intending to tow anything on or off road. Own trailer or caravan not required as there are a number at that may be used. Of course if you do have your own trailer/caravan you are welcome to bring it along to practice with. HEMA HN7 GPS Dates: This is a 2 day course dedicated to Hema HN7 GPS. The first day will be devoted to the PC software supplied by Hema this is a customised version of OziExplorer and is used to plan trips. These trips can then be downloaded to the HN7. Actual data from completed trips can also be uploaded to the PC for storage or other analysis. The second day is devoted to the HN7 GPS device all configuration settings will be discussed as well as the method of using the device on trips. Participants will need to bring their HN7 and a laptop with the HN7 software already installed.
4 FIRST AID Book Now!!! WORKING BEES AND OTHER EVENTS Date: 03 November 2018 Cost: This First Aid course is run for members by an external training organisation. The $ fee covers materials. This course is run over 1 long day at. Upon successful completion, a certificate will be issued. Koolandilly: Dates: November, 10 th 11 th. December, 8 th 9 th, February 9 th 10 th, Regular weeding, mowing, spraying, cleaning, solar routines, general maintenance and repairs, Contact: Peter Williams Mobile: : Dates: : HEMA APP & HEMA HX-1 COURSE Date: This is a new course designed around the Android operating system and the Hema HX-1. From our observance of the manual, the Apple (IOS) app seems to be the same software so the course will be applicable to both devices as well as the HX-1. PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP UPCOMING SOCIAL EVENTS Booking an event: The clubs website ( is used for booking onto all events. Click on the Events tab at the top of the page and then click on the Events List tab on the left side of the page. Scroll down to Social Events and click on the event you wish to attend. Then complete the presented form and submit it. A booking confirmation will be issued. You can also the Social Director at social@tlcc.com.au with any enquires regarding upcoming events or if you are interested in assisting with the organization of an event. GUEST SPEAKERS Date: Koolandilly Jamie Smith - Central West 4WD Park Bring along your camera or phone and learn how to improve your photography. The weekend will involve some theory presentations which will be followed by practical sessions in the area. Koolandilly will provide lots of photographic opportunities to develop skills and capture great photos of wildlife, natural landscapes, people and vehicles. On Saturday evening after dark, for those who still have energy, we will do another workshop Painting with Light aka night photography. Sunday will provide an opportunity for those interested in video as well, including some tips on sound recording and presenting to camera. Trip Description: Leaving from, breakfast at Braidwood pie shop and on via Araluen and Silent Creek. Rim track on Tuesday (if open). Exit Wednesday and home or via. Date: 10-Nov-2018 to 11-Nov-2018 Grade: Medium Vehicle Limit: 8 Fuel: Full at meeting place Suitable For: Off Road Camper Trailers, Ground Tents, Camping, Rooftop Tents Not suitable: For Caravans Requirements: The trip is suitable for standard cars with quality tyres. The tracks can change with the weather which can make things more interesting. The Park is quite steep in places and as such camper trailer only after discussions with the trip leader. Description: An easy weekend trip through the Abercrombie National Park. The trip will travel over the mountains, pass through Jenolan Caves before visiting the Kanangra Walls outlook. We will make our way to Abercrombie via the Kowmung Fire Trail and Dingo Dell. We will have a look around the Park, camping the night at Silent creek, before driving out the next day. 6 World Rally Championships Coffs Harbour Book Now!!!!! Dates: Friday 16 th to Sunday 18 th November Grade: Blue/Black Limit: 8 vehicles Requirements: Good A/T or M/T tyre s or equivalent Equipment: All recovery gear, camping gear Fuel: Full at Coffs Harbour Trip Details: The Recovery Team have again been invited back to attend and provide our recovery expertise to the World Rally Australia Event at Coffs Harbour. Although the rally itself runs from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th November 2018, those wishing to attend will need to be available from Wednesday 14 th November for the drive to Coffs Harbour (and due to OH & S requirements) through to Monday 20th November for the drive home, making it a 6 day commitment. Good navigation skills will be required and members will need to be prepared for a vehicle recovery at short notice. As there will be plenty of down time, there will be lots of time for photos to catch the close up action of the various rally cars, the rest of the day can be slow, so a good book would be useful as well. Accommodation will be available at a local caravan park, as well as motels in the area if required. This will be a great way to show off the Club in a professional way whilst working for Rally Australia. Trailers: Suitable The Trip Leader for this event will be Mark Grace, so if you have any questions regarding the event you are welcome to contact Mark directly. VICTORIAN HIGH COUNTRY TRIP Book Now!!!!! Dates: Jan to February Grade: Blue to Black if wet. Limit: 6 vehicles new members (with Driver Training completed) welcome Requirements: Good A/T or M/T tyres or equivalent Equipment: Standard recovery gear, camping gear, self-sufficient with food & water Fuel: Full at meeting place Trip Details: A two week trip starting in the Snowy River National Park and working South westwards to finish near Mt Buller... Minimum 2 nights in each campsite. Transfers between campsites planned for camper trailers. Some caravan parks as well as wilderness campsites. Longest stay without portable water- 3 nights. This is an exploration of the area including riverside campsites, viewpoints, history, and some fun 4WD. Note that trip routes can change if the weather deteriorates. Other: Campfire cook up one evening so bring your camp oven. 7 TLCC All States Discover the Flinders Gathering 2019 Book Now!! Date: 06-May-2019 to 10-May-2019 Grade: Green (Easy-mostly high range, some low range needed) Vehicle Limit: No limit Fuel: Full at start point and were needed Suitable For: Not suitable for: Requirements: Good A/T tyres or equivalent, UHF CB radio, food & drink and camping gear Trip Description: At the 2016 Conference in Noosa Qld the TLCC South Australia offered to host the next 'all states' event. TLCC SA have advised that this planning is now underway with early May 2019 in the Flinders Ranges selected for TLCC SA to host our members. TLCC SA has invited our Club to join them in their 'Discover the Flinders' themed event which will be all about interstate members enjoying the wonderful opportunities the Flinders provides. Somewhere in there we might just spend a few hours chatting about all things TLCC. More on that to come later. For those interested, we will then head on to Arkaroola for a few days from Saturday 11 th May. Dates: 1 July weeks *we are leaving from Canberra so happy to travel in convoy for anyone interested 1 st leg: Norseman Wiluna Canning Stock Route Halls Creek 2 nd leg: Halls Creek El Questro Gibb River Road Exmouth 3 rd leg: Exmouth to Esperance *returning to Canberra considering jumping on the rail instead of returning via the Nulla but happy for others to travel in convoy with us at any point. Grade: BLACK - Mostly low range, aftermarket lift, aggressive /good condition All Terrain or Mud tyres, must be well equipped for recoveries, likely that some winching and/or snatching could be experienced. Limit: 5 spaces remaining 3 vehicles are already booked Fuel: Capacity of between (somewhere around 400L depending on your vehicle, and whether or not a fuel dump can be arranged or if we can get fuel at the Kunawaritji community) Water: Minimum of (L per person per day) Equipment: Standard recovery gear, on board/portable air compressor, camping gear, food & drink **there will be plenty of other stuff to be worked through as we get closer**. Requirements: GOOD all terrain or mud tyres or equivalent with at least 2 spares, UHF CB radio, a comprehensive pretrip service MUST be carried out. We will also be having our vehicles serviced at Exmouth after having completed the CSR and Gibb River Rd. Trip Details: The Canning Stock Route component of this trip should not be attempted unless you have significant 4wding experience, a very capable vehicle and are able to be self-sustained, in sand, for a 2 week period fuel stock, water, and food. The rest of the trip will depend on weather conditions the Gibb River Road leg can apparently be quite tricky but we are hoping, by leaving in the middle of winter, that we have a good chance of an interesting, but passable route. The WA coast leg between Exmouth and Esperance will be quite a bit of driving on the black stuff/touring as opposed to hard core tracks, but will take any opportunity to explore off road whenever possible. I have a draft itinerary available, so if you re interested please call or and I ll get it to you.
