Trip Details: Club members are valued participants in the annual Barrington Tops Search & Rescue Exercise (SAREX) which sees several agencies including NSW Police, WICEN, BWRS, SES, RFS and the TLCC get together to practice what they do best within the structure of a SAREX. The focus for the exercise is the light aircraft VH-MDX which disappeared in the Barrington area in 1981 with 5 men on board and has never been found. Our role is to transport anything and anyone (mainly searchers' of the BWRS). TLCC club members are valued due to the driving skills that they have been taught and have further developed within the TLCC. The 2016 search area will probably be in the Gloucester Tops area. See past trip reports in the TLCC News Jul2010, Oct2010, Apr2011, Oct2011, Sep2013 and Feb2014 plus watch for the next issue of the TLCC News for the latest report. The search itself is organised overall by the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad (BWRS) and it gets underway early on Friday so ideally participants should be in the area Thursday evening. Map Reading and Navigation education will be available closer to the event if required. TLCC club members need to be part of a member squad of the State Rescue Board e.g. RFS or SES etc or a member of a VRA (Volunteer Rescue Association) specialist member squad such as the BWRS or WICEN. Ask me for details. Without guaranteeing it, this activity has repetitively given participants access to locked National Park areas including Wilderness Areas. More Always fun, you never know what will happen next and you gain the experience of working and interacting with professional and volunteer agencies. The 2015 SAREX was a standout in exhibiting the level of driving and track clearing skills possessed by TLCC members.
