Box 1041 Geelong Victoria 3220 Newsletter 2nd Quarter 2017 From the Presidents' desk Christmas is now behind us and we are into March which means it is not far away from Easter. All the Activities have resumed again, with every one very keen to get their mind active again. We currently have a membership of 408 members and thanks to Terry for his efforts in keeping our records of them all up to date. This Year our Biggest Morning Tea to benefit The Cancer Council will be on Wednesday Morning the 24th May. more details later. The floor was re done in December but still has problems, and will have more work next December. As we started a little later this year and things are only just getting going again. This is a good time to remember that without the Conveners, the activities wouldn't exist, so the Committee would like to thank-you one and all for your great work, and wish you all the best for a great year ahead. I would also like to wish all members who haven't been feeling well a speedy recovery. P.S. Membership renewal is due before the next Newsletter comes out end of June. We were lucky to have the Table Tennis Group gather in December. What a fun loving bunch they are too. (Picture from Peter Covolo) 1

6 down from co-ordinating the Saturday morning rides after many, many years. TABLE TENNIS Ballarat Road Table Tennis Centre Mondays 1:0 pm. to 3:00 pm Rob Ballard Co-Conveners: Andrew Broadfoot The group has got off to a hot start for the year, not only because of the hot weather, but because so many players are turning up. This means everyone gets to play against, and with, a wide variety of standards, resulting in some games being very keenly contested. It is fascinating to see how many of us are improving as a result. TRADING TABLE I would like to thank everyone for a fantastic start to We have had a really good response to what has been brought in. As soon as it comes in, it goes out, which is FANTASTIC. Thanks again Margaret, Val and Lorraine. But the biggest factor is that we all have fun. Some great shots are celebrated with loud hoots and some hollering has been heard too. Lots of laughs and very relaxed atmosphere so make sure you don't miss out and do join in the fun 1-3pm Mondays at the Geelong Table Tennis centre - Church St Geelong West. Bats and balls provided. Convener: Marg Parry FRIDAY WALK AND TALK 9:15 am. at Balyang Sanctuary car park near the facilities block. Even though the weather may be very warm, we just pop the fans on and all is okay. Looking forward to another great year. Convener: June Charleston L.A.C. PEDALLERS The LACG Cycling Group continues to enjoy good cycling. Members have been actively participating in the weekly Thursday and Saturday morning rides with numbers often over the 20 mark. The out-of-town Tuesday's rides have also been very popular, particularly the round the bay ride from Port Melbourne and the Capital Trail ride along the Yarra. Some of the Tuesday rides have had to be cancelled due to extreme heat but most riders took advantage of a smaller alternate ride on those days. The Easy Riders have also been very active on Thursday and Saturday mornings. The group would like to thank retiring co-coordinators Tony Minchin, Ian Keith and Peter Rogers, with a special thank you and well done to Bill Lafranci who has stepped It looked like true love when "Rudolf" showed up at Brendas' Friday walk Xmas picnic When my boss asked me who is the stupid one, me or him? I told him everyone knows he doesn't hire stupid people. 6
7 THINKING SKILLS & MEDITATION Our annual fundraiser for Cancer research and support activities will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 10 AM. We will have a variety of goods for sale and a big raffle. Items suitable for the raffle, fancy goods, craft, plants and cakes would be appreciated. The trading table for pre-loved goods also. We thank you for your previous generosity and look forward to another successful event. A small plate for morning tea and a gold coin entry fee on the day. I have not got any dates yet for meditation, as it is hard to get six weeks that either myself or Shirley can commit to. (Don't we have busy lives as we get older). So stay tuned for now, and keep an eye on the noticeboard. Harmony brings us inner piece Convenor: Heather Redding Brainteaser Answer: The man was a Priest THEATRE I was very disappointed with my last attempt to organise an outing to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as so far no one has put their name down or rang me. On reflection however, it is becoming clear to me that the change in GPAC requirements for Group Bookings, ie the money a month in advance is quite a show stopper. When this is combined with my requiring a scarce wheel chair space and the timing involved before members commit, it is probably true Theatre Activity needs a different plan, possibly like Cinema. This would involve a show to be nominated and members make their own arrangements to be there from a list on the board. Unfortunately this would also need frequent discussion requiring regular attendance on Wednesday which I am not able to do. Therefore I would like to handover this activity to another member who loves theatre like I do. Convener: Lynne Foreman Thank you Hazel Harrison convener A police officer jumps into his squad car and calls the station. "I have an interesting case here" he says. 'A woman shot her husband for stepping on the floor she just mopped." "Have you arrested her?" asks the sergeant. "No, not yet. The floor's still wet LACG Friday Walk Location and sections which can be added together 7
