1 202 F District Greetings fellow Lions On a very wet Sunday, April 12 th Elisabeth and I travelled over to Borland Lodge to present the certificates to the 27 attendees at the Youth Leadership course. Our cabinet member, Jeffrey Black, ably supported by wife Kathleen are the people behind organising the event. Another great example of the good work that goes on behind the scene in our Lions district. We met with some very enthused youth, full of praise for the chance to be able to participate and acknowledging the personal skills they had achieved during the week. I encourage all Clubs to keep supporting this project by arranging for students to attend as it does make such a difference to their outlook on life and to themselves. We are going to make the month of April 100% MMR month. Absolutely no reason why it can not be done. Clubs do not need to leave reporting until the end of the month, it can be done anytime during the month as some clubs are reporting on the previous months activities. There is going to be a Child Mobility day in Dunedin, 6 th June. Lions members are welcome to attend and see the good work being done with the children and their Hart Walkers. Now some very good news. As you read this Elisabeth and I will be in Napier attending my last Council meeting and the Multiple Districts Convention. The District of 202 F will be receiving 3 important Multiple District awards. Gore River Valley - winners of the Ron Usmar Project of the Year - An Evening with Jo Seagar Invercargill Host - winners of Ron Rowe bulletin award editor Linda Wall Wanaka/Upper Clutha - runner up Morrison McDougall Electronic bulletin award editor Ann Saunders Well done and I will accept these awards on your behalf with great pride. On Wednesday, 15 th April Elisabeth and I were invited to an evening with the Dunedin Host Club and were presented with a cheque for $ to go towards chasing a cure for diabetes. Wow how good was that! The other good news is that we are now part of a committee with 202J with the aim of combining and co-ordinating our fund raising efforts for this project. A positive move. The handmade cards that Elisabeth made and sold to the clubs on our visits have raised $ so far. Just over 640 cards. Any clubs that need to restock on their Get Well and Sympathy cards can do so by contacting her. Thank you to all those who have given their support. Reports are that the training day in Gore went well but Clubs do need to remember that numbers attending and their positions need to be given to the organisers in plenty of time beforehand so as the programme can run smoothly. Our club visits have now finished except for one Leo Club we will be visiting in May. THANK YOU all for the hospitality you have shown to us both, we have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated being able to visit you on your own patch Finally, do please remember to ASK 1 --that is all it takes. Regards D G Les.

5 Dear Lions Clubs The Incoming Officer Training for will be held on Saturday May 9th at Cromwell College starting at 10.00am with a cuppa and the first session to start at 10.30am and finishing at approx 3.30pm. There will be a charge of $10.00 per person to cover catering. Your Club should cover this. A good turn out is required, even if you have held the position for a number of years, there is always new information to learn. This helps make your club stronger and able to move forward with confidence. We will have access to a computer to help Secretaries learn about online reporting. It is important that as many of those holding club positions should attend as this makes the first few months of the new Lions year a much easier transition. Please reply to me or your Zone Chair ASAP for catering purposes. I require your name, Club and position as this helps the trainers have enough training materials available on the day. We hope to have someone to speak on the new Worksafe laws and how they affect your club projects. Wendy Goodwin Global Leadership Coordinator goodwin@woosh.co.nz Phone The Wyndham Lions Club is celebrating its 50th Jubilee on the 17 and 18th of October Any past members of the Wyndham Lions Club can obtain more information about this weekend from, Brian Mason at brijan@woosh.co.nz

Great to have the Waituna Playcentre ladies along to be presented with a cheque for $900 being the proceeds from Crank Up day candyfloss. At our social meeting on the 17th April, we had Neil Adam as our guest speaker. Neil works for Preston Russell and deals with the Estates and Wills side of the firm. Southland Girls Leo Club President Amy, Secretary Rianna and Treasurer Brooke from SGHS Leos attended Invercargill South meeting and presented their profile rendition. The Leo's at this early stage of the year are functioning exceptionally well with lots of good ideas and plenty of enthusiasm and with a membership of around 132 things are going along nicely. Te Anau A "clean-up" working bee at the Cemetery held on Saturday April 11th at 10am. At this stage the Changeover combined Dinner meeting is pencilled in for 18th July. Ross & Joan Coburn and Henrik attended the Tuatapere Lions 50th Jubilee function. It was well attended and well celebrated. A highlight being the oysters on the menu! We had plenty of helpers to erect the marquee for the Tartan Festival but a bit of a struggle to take it down with only a few turning up for that. Ranfurly Maniototo Pakeke We have had two working bees lately to cut kindling wood and have a good supply on hand. The potato diggers did a great job in beating the weather and digging the spuds a day earlier than planned. We propose to buy an Air Bed for the hospital/chalet at a cost of $3,998. Our new policeman, Jaco Pieterse, spoke about his life growing up in South Africa at the end of the apartheid era. He was always a very good rugby player and was playing forthe Sharks Under-21 team while completing a degree in marketing. Roxburgh & Districts Shear for Life went well. Special thankyou to those there from the very beginning to the end over 32 hours on site. Tapanui Vintage show meals were the big earner. Awesome job done by the catering team. 326 registered to date for the Roxburgh School Jubilee BBQ.
