See the monthly menu in the Island Times. SHIBA The Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors are available by appointment to meet with you and provide information about health insurance. To make an appointment call the Oak Harbor Senior Center at Clients with questions who do not want to schedule an in person appointment can call SHIBA direct at The next Get Ready for Medicare Workshop located at the Center is Tuesday, April 10 at 10:00 AM. No registration is required. 2 PASSPORT ACCEPTANCE/PHOTOS The Oak Harbor Senior Center is a Passport Acceptance Agency. If you only need a photo you can come anytime during center hours, however, applications for passports are accepted by appointment only. Please call us at to schedule an appointment. Please note that the acceptance fee will increase to $35 per pasport starting April 1st. INFORMATION SERVICES Monique Olvera, Resource Specialist with Island Senior Resources, is available to assist you in identifying, understanding, and accessing services available in the community. Services include in-home, respite and long term care options, housing, transportation, insurance options and more! Call Monique at for assistance or to make an appointment to see her at her office in the Oak Harbor Senior Center.

3 Classes/Events LUNCH & LEARN Bring your lunch and join us for these informative presentations from local professionals. 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM April 24 - Scleroderma: The Causes, Overview and Treatment. Bob Wallin will share about Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease, and his experience with it. May 1 - Electricity, Energy, and Gas Walt Blackford of Puget Sound Energy will focus on electric and gas safety, how electricity gets to Whidbey and how it is restored, home energy assessments, low-income assistance, and online self-service options. May 22 - Safety Line Harold Cole will be speaking about Safety Line, a provider of medical alert services and medication dispensing systems. June 26 - Advanced Care Planning Carla Jolly with be talking about Advanced Care Planning. She will talk about the Five Wishes- Living Will, ways to deal with your health and planning for you and your family. AT THE CENTER Electrical Safety Presentation Wednesday, April 11 3:30-4:30 PM Puget Sound Energy representative, Walt Blackford, will be giving a live demonstration on electrical safety. All ages are welcome! Social Security Workshops Wednesday, April 25 & June 20 at 2:00 PM Annette Barca will be giving a free, informational workshop on Social Security. Our first stop will be at the Orchard s Nursery in Stanwood, WA. This nursery was a favorite last year! Our no host lunch stop will be at the Trumpeter Restaurant in Mt. Rhododendrons, Wine, & Lunch Thursday, May 24 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Member: $40 Non-Member: $55 This is a Whidbey Island Adventure! We will begin in Langley at Comforts of Whidbey Winery. There we will savor an exclusive wine tasting. Afterwards we will head over to Gordon s on Blueberry Hill Restaurant in Freeland. After lunch, we will drive to Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens in Greenbank where a 1 and 1/2 hour guided Horticultural tour awaits. After the tour we will have time to explore the various paths, with many benches, were we can sit and take in the beauty of the various

American Car Museum Wednesday, June 13 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM Member: $64 Non-Member: $78 Whether you re a collector, an automotive enthusiast, or just a fan of cars, this museum will sure to spark your interest. You will be amazed by the number of cars they showcase. We also will have lunch in their Classic Café which features hot sandwiches, burgers, and floats. Angel of the Winds Casino Tuesday, June 19 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM Member: $27 Non-Member: $37 Come see Angel of the Winds new non-smoking section in addition to many new slots! Andre Bocelli Sunday, June 24 3:30 PM - 11:30 PM Member: $168 Non-Member: $190 This June, legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli will be returning to the US for a special concert series and will be at the Key Arena in Seattle. We will arrive in Seattle in time to enjoy a no host dinner before the show. Seattle Underground Tour & Lunch at 13 Coins Thursday, June 28 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Member: $58 Non-Member: $70 Take a humorous stroll through storefronts and sidewalks entombed under Seattle when the city rebuilt on top of itself after the Great Fire of 1889! This 75 minute tour begins in Doc Maynard s Public House, then spills into historic Pioneer Square before plunging underground for an exclusive view of the buried city. After our tour, we will enjoy a no host lunch at the new famous 13 Coins Restaurant in Pioneer Square. NOTE: The underground part of this tour has uneven walking surfaces, stairs, and minimal lighting. For your safety, please wear covered toe shoes. Immerse yourself in a colorful pageant of art, history and culture on an 11-day experience in Madrid, Seville, Valencia and Barcelona. 6 TRAVEL POLICIES PAYMENT, CANCELLATIONS, AND REFUNDS All fees must be paid in full upon registering for a trip. Full refunds will be issued for any trip cancelled by the Senior Center. When participant cancellation is necessary, a refund, minus a $10 cancellation fee, will be made if the cancellation is requested no later than one week prior to the trip. Cancellation requests must be made to the Senior Center Program Coordinator, by phone or in person, during normal Center hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30-4:30). Participants that fail to arrive for the scheduled bus departure time are not eligible for refunds. The following exceptions apply: In all cases, a full refund will be made, if a participant s space is filled from the waiting list. If there is no waiting list, a participant may find his/her own replacement. Trips that include prepaid items (such as tickets or meals) are not eligible for refunds, regardless of cancellation date, unless the space can be filled. Cancellations that cause a trip to have fewer than 15 participants are not eligible for refunds, regardless of cancellation date. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to participate in Senior Center trips. Those in wheel chairs should register as early as possible to ensure space on the bus. Those with special needs must bring their own assistant or traveling companion, if needed. Family and out of town guests of Senior Center members may register at the member rate when traveling together. Children and teenagers accompanied by a parent or grandparent may attend with the permission of the Program Coordinator. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Participants must complete and sign the Trip Liability Release with accurate emergency contacts prior to each trip. Any additional forms required by the trip destination or attraction must also be completed prior to the trip. Check-in with the trip escort minutes before the scheduled departure time. The bus will depart no later than 10 minutes after scheduled departure time. During the trip your escort will announce the return time of departure. OHSC is not responsible for making arrangements for your transportation home if you fail to return to the bus on time. Participants must follow the Senior Center s policies while on the trip. Anyone who refuses to follow policies, or disrupts the trip, may be asked to leave the trip and may be barred from future trips.

7 Happenings ISLAND JAZZ COLLECTIVE BAKE SALE SPRING MUSIC SERIES COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE The last Friday of April, May, & June we will be having a Night of Music and Dance from 6:30-9:30 PM. Tickets are $15 per person which you can pre-purchase at the Center or online. Everyone 21+ is welcome! Watch for the upcoming bands. 7

8 Planning a Party? The Center has space for you. The Senior Center is available for private rentals. Featuring a multipurpose room with stage and wood floors, kitchen and dining area, and conference/classroom there is a space to fit your needs. The OHSC is a great option for birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, retirement parties and any other gathering!
