7 PEOPLE FEATURE Three years ago, Simo Steae jacked i his job as a BT sales rep for somethig more lofty. Now a tower crae operator, he s bee workig o The Shard site for the last six moths. As oe of two crae operators, he s resposible for maoeuvrig everythig aroud, from scaffoldig to masory. He talks us through his workig day: What is your day like o site? I start climbig the crae at 7.40am ad do t come dow agai till 6pm. Oce I m i the cab, I switch o the crae ad do the safety checks. The I start takig up loads ad puttig them wherever they re eeded. I m teamed up with a sliger sigaller, Joh Clayde, who secures the loads for me. What s it like workig o The Shard? As a crae driver you always wat to work o skylie projects, takig part of the skylie dow, the puttig it back up.
