4 RUSSIAN ECONOMY IS DEVELOPING POSITIVELY AND RELIABLY! The positive feedback received lately from the Russian market is leading to strong demand for packaging. The manufactures of these and related products are investing as much as they can in modern production technologies and materials, in order to be able to satisfy the increasingly exacting requirements made by their customers. The improvement in the rouble exchange rate is also helping to enable Russian companies, that had to defer necessary purchases in the recent crisis years, to invest in the modernization of their production. Russian is one of the biggest sales market for food worldwide and after the years of recession, consumes are now increasingly taking to high-quality, pre-packaged food as well as convenience products again. At the same time the policy of subsidizing imports in the food sector continues unabated and as a result Russia s agricultural production is rising rapidly. So as to process these products, Russian and international enterprises are stepping up their investment in the installation and expansion of their local production capacities. This boost the demand or food processing and packaging machinery as well as for beverage production and filling. For example over the first eleven month of 2017, German exports to Russia reached a value of EURO 341 million, 13% more than in 2016.

6 EVERY INNOVATION HAS ITS STARTING POINT After the premiere last year, upakovka 2018 also had an extensive innovationparc conference agenda in store for visitors for the complete duration of the show. As the show s own forum for specialized themes of the future and innovative technologies, the innovationparc is the ideal platform for visitors and exhibitors to exchange and develop creative and visionary ideas. The first day of the trade fair featured not only lectures on brands, packaging and the latest trends in the beverage industry but also a slot on SAVE FOOD, dealing with the reduction of food losses and waste by means of packaging (technology). Another important topic was Industry 4.0. Here VDMA, the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association, presented the challenges and know-how surrounding the trend theme that lured to so many trade fair visitors to the innovationparc. The various lectures on flexible packaging also met with great interest. Working with our partners in industry, we will continue to do our effort in presenting market-focused, forward-looking content to Russian trade visitors. In 2019 packaging materials, among other things, will be an important topic, as well as packaging design and the increasing material requirements.
