Each business will be presented with a Denton County Heritage Business sticker decal to display in a prominent location at their business. Please see the attached spreadsheet and provide us with as much information about the businesses as possible. We plan to launch this project at Commissioners Court on May 12 th as part of National Historic Preservation Month, so please send us your lists before then. We would like the opportunity to invite the representatives of these businesses to join us in court on that date. Please let me know if you have any questions. 6 RESOLUTION The Denton County Commissioners Court, Denton County, Texas, during a regular session on the 16th day of June 2015, considered the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Office of History and Culture wishes to recognize businesses that have been in operation for over 50 years with the title of Denton County Heritage Business. WHEREAS, McNeil s Appliance, Ramey King Insurance, Jagoe Public Company, Beasley s Jewelry, and the Denton Record-Chronicle are recognized as Denton County Heritage Businesses. WHEREAS, McNeil s Appliance first opened its doors in What started as two family businesses merged into one as the two youngest children of each family, Virginia Ball and Charles McNeil, married in the 1960s. Now, well into their third generation, Virginia McNeil and her daughter, Pam are celebrating 84 years in business, never losing sight of their original mission of excellent service to all customers. WHEREAS, Ramey King Insurance, established in 1881, is an independent, local Texas insurance agency committed to providing individuals, families, and businesses with steadfast risk management solutions by representing over eighty insurance companies. Today, Jeff and James King carry on the 100 year tradition of insuring Denton s business and personal insurance needs. WHEREAS, Jagoe Public Company was founded in 1921 by Mr. Walker M. Jagoe as the first hot mix asphalt plant in the state of Texas. The Jagoe Public Company is a general contractor specializing in highway construction, reconstruction, and maintenance contracting for government, residential, and commercial site projects. They perform excavation, utility construction, sub-grade stabilization, hot mix asphalt and concrete pavement as well as various other construction projects. WHEREAS, Beasley's Jewelry, founded in 1948, continues to serve the Lewisville community with unique jewelry design at affordable prices. The mission of this longstanding family-owned business is to provide fine quality jewelry and the best possible service to all customers. WHEREAS, Purchased in 1901, after the merger of the Denton County Record and the Denton Chronicle, Will Edwards established the Denton Record-Chronicle as a daily newspaper and printed its first issue on August 3, Today, Bill Patterson serves as the publisher of the Denton Record- Chronicle continuing a tradition started by his grandfather, Riley Cross, the newspaper s second owner. Since 1999, the A.H. Belo Corporation of Dallas has owned and operated the newspaper. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Commissioners Court of Denton County hereby recognizes these businesses as Denton County Heritage Businesses for their continued dedication and service to Denton County. 6 of 6
