2 From my desk. Hello Readers Well, only one more Horizons to go. The year has flown by but that s not to say that it hasn t been a significant one. We have forged a greater district involvement with Rotaract, we ve had a combined district conference, we ve seen kids come and go on exchange, inspired young adults through the RYLA/RYPEN programs plus the National Youth Science forums and other science based programs. We ve commenced the transition process for New District 9510 with the selection of the DG David Jones and through the creation of the Steering Committee. We ve lost many members yet Clubs have inducted many. We ve made significant contributions to the Foundation and Polio through the Clubs and through the Centurion program and also from the surplus from the Conference. All of our Clubs have made a difference to the lives of the less fortunate, some within our communities and others far away. We ve met the challenge to plant trees for our environment and we ve supported programs such as RAWCS, ROMAC, Interplast, RYDA, ARH, Shelter box and Disaster Aid, Malaria and also DIK (and many others). We ve used the grants process to multiply our fundraising and do some great projects both here in Oz and also O/S. As a Governor my eyes have been opened. I ve seen what we do and I m impressed and proud of you all. D9500 certainly does make a difference. I ve been asked lately what lays ahead for me. I ll still have some involvement in District affairs as a once was DG involvement with committee s such as Honours advisory panel and the awards committee, District resolutions committee, the Board (formerly Dmfc), Grants committee and I ll be the District s Interplast rep. If you want a speaker, please give me a call I m always up for a gig drumming up awareness for this worthy program. I look forward to seeing many of you at the District Changeover where we ll celebrate the year that was and be inspired by what lays ahead. Until next week, keep well D9500 & YOU Making a Difference PeterS 2

3 Rotary Leaders RI invoices to clubs. Incoming and outgoing Secretaries note: The easiest way to make corrections is via (Club Runner) through the District website. If you don t have access at the moment, the 1017/18 Secretary and President will be able to assist you. The District Club Runner Database synchronises with the RI Database and is far easier to use BUT please don t leave your updates until the last moment. The synchronises may take up to a couple of days to occur so make your deadline no later than 23/June. Below is a recent received from Rotary International. Dear Rotary Club leaders: This is a friendly reminder to confirm your club membership and officer information in Rotary s database before 30 June RI will use this information to generate your July 2018 club invoice. It s important that your club s membership information is up to date, because we can t change the club invoice after it s been generated or accept membership updates with your payment. As a current club officer, you can ensure that your club invoice will be correct by checking the accuracy of the information in Rotary s database. Here s how: 1. Sign in to My Rotary and choose Manage, then Club & District Administration, Club Administration, and Club & Member Data. 2. Report all new or terminated members and club officers no later than 1 July o Members with admission dates of 1 July 2018 or before will be counted for the July 2018 club invoice. o Members with termination dates of 1 July 2018 or before will not be counted for the July 2018 club invoice. Please note that incoming club officers can view data in My Rotary but cannot make changes. The 1 July 2018 due date also applies to clubs that use RI approved data integration software (Club Runner) to update membership. Your club invoice is generated based on membership information recorded in Rotary s database but not your club s local database, so it s important to make sure Rotary has the latest information. Please make updates in your local database and then sign in to My Rotary to verify the information there. If you re unable to update your member information online, you can submit the Member Data Form in one of three ways: Scan and it to data@rotary.org Fax it to Mail it to your local Rotary office or fiscal agent early enough that it will arrive by 1 July 2018 For more information about the club invoice, including how to guides and answers to frequently asked questions, go to My Rotary s Club Administration pages. For help with membership questions, contact data@rotary.org. Sincerely, May Li Manager Data Services cc: district governors, district governors elect, assistant governors 3

5 ROTARACT 50 YEARS CELEBTRATION IN ADELAIDE Joining Rotaract was initially a means of making friends with likeminded people, but it became so much more when we saw the potential of what we could do for the world when we worked together. On 13 April 2018, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Adelaide hosted a civic ceremony for 100 past and present Rotaractors in the Adelaide Town Hall in recognition of Rotaract s strong commitment to service since 1971 when the first Rotaract Club in District 250 the Rotaract Club of Edwardstown was formed. The Charter President Ali Laslett (nee Trigg) and remaining Edwardstown Rotary / Rotaract formation committee member Rotarian Don Williams were amongst those in attendance. Adelaide City Rotaract Club President Katey Halliday responded to the Lord Mayor s toast to Rotaract. Following the ceremony, the numbers swelled to 200 past and present Rotaractors for a Gala Ball to celebrate 50 Years of Rotaract at Pavilion on the Park in Adelaide. Friendships were re newed and many conversations were picked up after a gap of some decades amongst guests including 16 former members of the 1971 Charter Club of District 250, the Edwardstown Rotaract Club, and 22 former Rotaract District Representatives. Fundraising during the night allowed for a $5000 donation to the Zarah Foundation which provides assistance to South Australian women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. Organisation for the 50 Years Celebrations commenced in October 2017 when members of the Adelaide City Rotaract Club (sponsored by the Rotary Club of Adelaide Light) established a Committee with representatives from the 4 Rotaract Clubs in District 9500 and Rotary Liaison PDG John Campbell and 2 Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Adelaide Light. In the lead up to the event Past District Governor John Campbell, who was the first member inducted after charter of the Edwardstown Rotaract Club in 1972, and Adelaide City Rotaract Club President Elect Heidi Wolff were interviewed on local radio station Coast FM and spoke at the Combined Districts 9500 and 9520 Conference on the First 10 years of Rotaract and its current positioning in District In the 70s, we joined Rotaract wanting to leave a footprint in the sand. Today s Rotaractors have the same goal. 12 RYLA CAMP RYLA 2018 is 3 weeks away. We need clubs to focus now on identifying and registering interested applicants and indicating their intention to sponsor in July We also need to identify a suitable, available and interested Rotarian to attend RYLA 2018 in the role of camp parent we have Ynyr Hughes in the role of camp mum and need a second camp parent ideally a camp dad. So that we are not in the position of seeking camp parents each year just prior to camps, I am keen to hear from anyone interested in the roles, be it this year or future years. Ideally, we would have enough interest to warrant selections. We will require appropriate DCSI checks, police checks and Child Safe Environments training, which I can discuss with anyone interested in a role. It would be a great way to involve clubs if each club had a member who had taken up this role for at least one camp experience. In the next few days, I will be writing to all Presidents, Secretaries and Assistant Governors. Please support this inclusion in the newsletter for the next 4 6 weeks and turn your minds to thinking about, contacting and encouraging suitable Rotarians to express their interest in the Rotarian representative (camp parent) role.
