Each year, hundreds of international students from more than 70 countries choose to either enrol in a study tour program, improve their English language or study an award course with us. Some even go on to study a degree with us, or progress on to one of Australia s finest universities. 4 English language TAFE SA s English Language Centre (ELC) is the only government-owned English Language provider in South Australia. It offers affordable, intensive English Language programs, which are specifically tailored for international students. Aside from this, the ELC is also renowned for delivering the national Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), which is funded by the Australian Federal Government. A TAFE SA English language study tour is suitable for both academic or professional purposes and is designed to introduce you to the language used in scholarly situations in Australia. The course is taught in an integrated fashion, so that English language skills are developed in a holistic way. Typical areas include: > Formal and informal English > Academic Speaking and Listening > Academic Reading and Writing > Group work: Critical Thinking and Research Skills > Topic Vocabulary > Tours of TAFE SA campuses Accommodation Regency International House On-site accommodation is provided at TAFE SA Regency International House, adjacent to the TAFE SA Regency Park campus. The secure villa-styled apartments are nestled in an attractive landscaped area within tranquil grounds, with native birdlife and a golf course nearby. Standard Accommodation: Each villa houses four students and provides spacious lockable individual rooms with bed, linen, wardrobe and hanging space, desk, drawers, bookshelf, and telephone. There is a shared bathroom with shower and toilet between two rooms, a common lounge with television, and basic kitchen facilities with microwave, small fridge and kettle for light meals or late-night snacks. Regency International House s dining room provides three meals a day, seven days a week, with special menus available to meet cultural and dietary needs. Homestay Many study tour participants want the experience of living with an Australian family for the duration of their stay. TAFE SA is able to provide the option of homestay accommodation to students seeking this experience. A homestay is a cultural exchange between an international student or visitor and a local individual or family in the host country. The host provides accommodation and support for an agreed-upon period of time and rate. Homestays can be tailored to provide meals, assistance and other activities. Homestays are designed to support international students and visitors who come to Australia to learn about culture and lifestyle, improve their language skills, or study academic courses. Many of our students make life-long friends with their hosts. 6 7

5 Cultural activities Cultural engagement is an important additional element of most study tours. Some of our students favourite cultural activities include: > Meeting koalas and kangaroos and other native wildlife at Cleland Conservation Park > Touring the magnificent Adelaide Oval and perhaps even cheering at a cricket or football match > Taking a tram to Adelaide s popular Glenelg Beach and eating fish and chips > Visiting the renowned Adelaide Central Market and China Town > Spending an afternoon at the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum > Understanding our state history at The Migration Museum of South Australia > Touring the Adelaide Hills including our German-inspired town Hahndorf > Chartering a tour of an iconic South Australian Wine region such as the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills or McLaren Vale About South Australia Adelaide is one of the world s most liveable and loveable cities.
