Lectura: ROM 12:1-2 Gospel/Evangelio: MT 16:21-27 Oregon Catholic Conference Statement House Bill 3391 Forces Coverage of Abortion and Expands Taxpayer-Funded Abortion The day after our country celebrated Independence Day, the Oregon State Legislature passed a bill that has more to do with force than it does with freedom. House Bill 3391, which has now been signed into law by Governor Brown, forces insurance companies to cover abortion on demand and it forces all Oregon taxpayers to help finance an extremist abortion agenda that does not enjoy majority support. By insisting on complete insurance coverage of abortion, including late-term and sex-selective abortions, the legislature and the Governor show intolerance of widely held opposing views and will compel thousands of Oregonians to support what their conscience rejects. Oregonians opposed to House Bill 3391 should lend their support to the Stop Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. This measure needs 117,000 signatures to qualify as an initiative for the 2018 election.
