3 From the Pastor: I knew a man who was rather negative and cynical. He said that the next world war would be fought with nuclear bombs. The next big war after that would be fought with sticks and stones. I pray that there are no big wars in the future. Nonetheless, those who maintain a so-called doomsday clock have moved the hands ahead closer to midnight. The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists created this metaphor and up-date the clock based on their evaluation of world events and attitudes. Recently they moved the hands to 2 minutes and 30 seconds before midnight. This is the closest it has been since the 1970 s. Beside our personal daily lives and our personal concerns, there are grand and global concerns about which we must be aware. For instance, we pray not only for peace in our local communities and families, but also for world peace and for peace between nations in conflict. We remain attentive to both local and global issues at the same time. One global concern about which we need to be aware is water. There are those who fear that regional and even more extensive wars may develop over access to clean water. There are growing concerns over possible refugee crises that may occur as people flee homelands that no longer provide enough water. The use of water and free access to water are moral issues. There are just ways and sinful ways to use water. Justice requires that even though we have easy access to abundant sources of clean water, we must not waste it. For example, the Great Lakes are not just a great resource for the people in Canada and the United States who live near them. These large bodies of fresh water are a resource for which we are to care about every drop! Our parish Social Concerns Committee has gathered some important facts about water from various sources. These facts will be featured in the bulletin during Lent. We have good reason, rooted in our faith and in Jesus commandment to love one another as he loved us, to pay attention to water issues near and far. The earth on which we live is like one large organism. What happens to one part of the body of the organism affects the whole body. As Christians who live our faith as the Body of Christ, whose every part is important, let us pay attention to the use of the resources of the body, that is, the earth. Peace Fr. 7 Mensaje de Nuestro Párroco: Conocía a un hombre que era bastante nega vo y cínico. ijo que la próxima guerra mundial tendría bombas nucleares. La próxima gran guerra después de eso sería peleada con palos y piedras. Ruego que no haya guerras grandes en el futuro. Sin embargo, aquellos que man enen un llamado "reloj del juicio final" han movido las manecillas hacia adelante más cerca de la medianoche. El Bole n de Cien ficos Atómicos creó esta metáfora y actualizan el reloj basado en su evaluación de eventos y ac tudes mundiales. Recientemente movieron las manecillas a 2 minutos y 30 segundos antes de la medianoche. Éste es lo más cercano que ha estado desde los años 70. Aparte de nuestras vidas co dianas personales y nuestras preocupaciones, hay preocupaciones grandes y mundiales sobre las cuales debemos estar conscientes. Por ejemplo, oramos no sólo por la paz en nuestras comunidades y familias locales, sino también por la paz mundial y por la paz entre las naciones en conflicto. Estamos al mismo empo atentos a los problemas locales y mundiales. Una de las preocupaciones mundiales sobre las que tenemos que estar conscientes es el agua. Hay quienes temen que se puedan desarrollar guerras regionales e incluso más extensas sobre el acceso al agua potable. Existe una creciente preocupación por las posibles crisis de refugiados que pueden ocurrir cuando las personas huyen de sus erras que ya no proporcionan suficiente agua. El uso del agua y el acceso libre al agua son cues ones morales. Hay maneras correctas y maneras pecaminosas de usar agua. La jus cia exige que, aunque tengamos acceso fácil a fuentes abundantes de agua limpia, no debemos desperdiciarla. Por ejemplo, los Great Lakes no son sólo un gran recurso para la gente en Canadá y los Estados Unidos que viven cerca de ellos. Estos cuerpos de agua dulce son un recurso por el que debemos preocuparnos por cada gota! Nuestra parroquia "Comité de Asuntos Humanos" ha reunido algunos hechos importantes sobre el agua de varias fuentes. Estos hechos serán presentados en el bole n durante la Cuaresma. Tenemos buenas razones, cementadas en nuestra fe y en el mandamiento de Jesús de "amarnos unos a otros" como él nos amó, para prestar atención a los problemas del agua cerca y lejos de nosotros. La erra en la que vivimos es como un gran organismo. Lo que sucede con una parte del cuerpo, afecta a todo el cuerpo. Como cris anos que vivimos nuestra fe como Cuerpo de Cristo, cuyas partes son importantes, prestemos atención al uso de los recursos del "cuerpo", es decir, de la erra. Pr.
