3 The club looked wonderful after all the efforts of our volunteers decorating for the Christmas Season. Thanks to Janice Creutzmann for organizing the whole function. Trim A Giving Tree was very well attended. Toys for Tots received four big boxes of toys. Then Jerry & I went on a week-long cruise and had a great time. The Annual Christmas Brunch was very successful as usual. The cruise to South Seas Resort was lots of fun. It's the first time I've been, and hope it will not be the last. I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year's Day. May 2018 be the best year so far. This coming year will have many exciting activates from our Entertainment Committee. I'm sure they will appreciate any suggestions you may have. January 8 th will be our Annual General Meeting. I hope to see everyone at this meeting for the election of our 2018 Officers. Mark your calendars.. Commodore, Acting Connie Martell COMMODORE'S COLUMN See you at the club. Connie Martell Commodore 3
4 HOUSE & RULES The holidays are over. I hope you and your loved ones had a very happy season. During the month of December we had a lot of activities at the Club. I would like to thank the Kitchen and Dining Room Staff for a job well done. I know with all the holiday parties and personal dinners it was a lot of work. Some of the activities that we had during the month of December were Trim a Giving Tree (the toys collected by our members and staff were given to Toys for Tots ). Hopefully, we helped to make a lot of children happy. The Grand Holiday Brunch was well attended, and the food was outstanding. The Commodore s Cheer, the Breakfast with Santa, the Holiday Smorgasbord and the New Year Eve parties were some of the highlights for the month of December. Please jot down the activates that are happening during the month of January. Take a good look at the Depth Sounder or at the Electronic Kiosk at the entrance of the Club. Some of you may not have been aware of some of the activities that we have. They are well advertised. All you have to do is find the ones you re interested in and mark them on your calendar. The back walls at the hall between the Ship s Wheel and the kitchen were painted and the intake air grill was cleaned during December. Please make your meal reservations as far in advance as possible so that the kitchen and dining room staff can properly accommodate you. It makes it hard on them if twenty people come in for dinner without calling ahead. To all of you, a very Happy New Year. Bette and I hope that 2018 is a great year and that life treats you well! We look forward to seeing you at the club. Javier Albarran Vice Commodore Vice Commodore, Javier Albarran FLEET ACTIVITIES Greetings and a Happy and Healthy New Year from the bridge! It seems hard to believe that this will be my last report as your Fleet Captain, a position that I ve held for two years. Although our club has endured many challenges, it pleases me that we still maintain an active cruising group. Our premier cruise to South Seas resort to celebrate the holidays was held from December 11 through December 14 th, and culminated with a lovely catered dinner with entertainment on December 14. After a few inevitable cancellations, we had 15 boats and roughly 46 people in attendance. The entire four days went off without problems, and we were blessed with good traveling weather. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time and I ve received many positive comments. It goes without saying that the success of such an event would not have been possible without the help of many dedicated members. From breakfast set up, to running games and wine tasting and transportation of food and decorations, there is much that needs to happen. I offer my heartfelt thanks to those who volunteered to make this cruise a success! Special thanks to Maryanne Letteri who s help has meant so much to me in planning this event starting back in June of this year. On January 15 at 4:00 pm we will have a raft-up in Charlotte Harbor just outside the channel markers to CHYC. If you do not have a boat, no problem. Please me and you Fleet Captain, will be put aboard a boat that is going. Plan on bringing an hors d oeuvre to share. We will break Ralph DeCesare up just after sunset. Also in January, on the 26th at the club, we will have a Cruise Fever party! You may recall reading in past articles that on February 19 through the 26 th, we will be cruising to the Saint Petersburg/Tampa area. This trip will include a one-night stay at Venice YC, a one-night stay at Sarasota YC, two nights at Bradenton YC, and a two- night stay in St. Petersburg or Tampa (the end destination is yet to be determined). The next few months will have many opportunities to join your fellow members for a day or extended cruise. Make the season a success and sign up to join us. This is a great way for new club members to meet folks and get involved with the club. If you are interested in any of the cruises in this report, please me:rdecesare21@gmail.com. Happy Boating! Ralph DeCesare, Fleet Captain 4
