2 TED S SNAPPY CHATTER There isn t much to say this month except THANK YOU!!! to all that helped to put on an outstanding Opening Day. Rhonda and Peter Breum ramroded an hard working group of volunteers which helped to put on a flawless event. Special thanks go to Rhonda for overseeing the entire Opening Day party, and Peter for BBQing the best meat ever. Msgt. Sam Edwards for arranging for the Air National Guard, Color Guard and for putting up a great sound system and operating it. To Carol Butte for her decorations, and Dusty Brown for his tireless work in the galley. To all you folks that helped with the food and drinks, I can t thank you enough. I had no less than ten people from other Yacht Clubs, come up to me and say that this was the best Opening Day they had ever been to. Next big cruise is the Cinco de Mayo cruise to the Isthmus on, you guess the date. MAKE PLANS EARLY for PMYC s Mother s Day Champagne Brunch on Sunday May 13 th, from 10:00 until 2:00. The staff Commodores and I will be putting it on. We will be serving champagne, juice, French toast, ham, bacon, sausage, there will be an omelet bar and Ted s famous pasta bar. All this for only 12 bucks. Mom will love ya for taking her out, so don t miss it. Back to my bed of nails. Ted Woolery, Commodore THE VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE. The last canon was fired at sundown Sunday, March 18, and that started our new 2007 Yachting Season. I hope next year, more of you will join us as we make the rounds of the other Yacht Clubs in the Marina. Ours was the best and certainly the most interesting with a touch of entertainment. The food was fantastic as was the cooperation of all concerned. Our thanks to all that participated and helped. This year I will start the season by teaching a class in Basic Navigation at the Cal Yacht Club. This class is for the person that has had some Navigation in the past and especially for people that have never taken a class in Navigation. The skill level required to do the Navigation problems is about 7th grade. You just have to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. NO higher math needed. The class will start on April 16, 2007, at 7:00 PM at California Yacht Club, at the lower level. Sign up will be starting at 7:00PM. The class if free, but you need to buy a text book and study guide. The Navigation tools necessary are parallel rulers, double pointed dividers, and an inexpensive calculator. The class meets every Monday evening for 2 months and then there is a final exam. Successful students will be presented a certificate of completion and this may entitle you to a discount with you boat insurance carrier. Each Company has different rules so check. I invite you to join me as we try to get up to the skill that Columbus had in (The man was looking for India and got lost. Note from the editor). By the time you read this Pat and I will have already hosted the Friday Dinner on March 30. This was a fun meal as we took it from Giada DiLaurentis' book where she says that this is her Grandfather Dino DiLaurentis' favorite pasta. Thanks to all that helped. Irv Osser, Vice Commodore

3 Cinco de Mayo Cruise to Isthmus May 4-6 Pot luck Friday. Saturday Carne Asada dinner, Margarita contest, Tortilla tossing contest, Guacamole contest. PRIZES!

4 What a day!!!!!!!! The 2007 fleet inspection turned out to be a day to talk about. Cruise chairman Fred Whitman and I used Manager Bob Leger s dinghy to go and inspect all 14 participants boats and received an outstanding welcome with hors d oeuvres. We started the day with Irish beer and black caviar for breakfast. Next, we stopped by for a relaxing massage and then over to the overall winner Didingwe. We got back in the dinghy and drove to C.Y.C to get Jr. Staff Commodore Barrie Harnett out of his misery( he was on opening day duty). Next up, fresh crab meat and Don Perion champagne and small tequila bottles placed on the engines onboard the best power boat winner FreeBee for lunch. We fired up Cuban cigars and went back to the club house for the rest of boats lined up to be inspected. There we found Tecate beer and pate for late snacks and the best sail boat this year Gitana. It s looks like the fleet is ready for the 2007 boating season that starts out with the Cinco de Mayo cruise to Isthmus May 4-6. From all of us to all of you, Thanks for a great day. Now to something completely different. It s now written in stone that we have a new editor. Ehren Beckwith will take over from the next issue. Please help him out with tons of pictures and articles. The Overall Winner, Trevor Bazeley Kent Andersson, Fleet Captain Hey, My name is Ehren Beckwith and I m the new Log editor. Please all pictures and articles to ehren@ehrenb.com If you need to call me (562) And remember, get them in early. Thanks and see you at the Club.

8 The 1st annual HOG Stick it where the sun don t shine Poker Run to benefit the Colon Cancer Alliance was a huge success! We even had PMYC member participation! The 100 mile cruise through the Santa Monica mountains ended with the traditional Poker Run BBQ at PMYC. Thank you PMYC, Bob Leger and all volunteers for assuring the success of the fundraiser and raising awareness for Colon Cancer and promoting the importance of colonoscopies! Remember, Up Yours!

9 New Member/Guest Internet Workstation As many of you have noticed, PMYC has purchased a new DELL desktop PC with a lovely 19" wide flat screen monitor in the back room for use by Members and Guests for retrieving , browsing the Internet, etc. It's really very nice and we hope everyone enjoys. Here's some things you may want to know: 1. This PC has the new Windows Vista (Home Premium) operating systems, which may take a little getting used to for all of us. It works pretty much the same as XP on older PCs, so don't get frustrated, it just looks some different in places. Hopefully this unit will last PMYC for many years, so this was an appropriate step. 2. This PC does not have Microsoft Office installed. Instead we have the free equivalents distributed by OpenOffice.org, which work exactly like Word, Excel, etc. It can open files from them, and save files in formats that are identical. Completely interchangeable. The programs work exactly the same also. Saves almost $200!! Hopefully, we've installed everything you all will need, but if you have problems, don't hesitate to call on me, or leave me a note. And please remember: Parental controls and security are turned up to the max, for obvious reasons. Be careful what you're looking at on your screens and be aware who's around you Do Not Turn Off PC when you're done. Power and time controls are pre-set. Remember: Time limit is 10 minutes if anyone's waiting to use the workstation! Roger Daugherty, Webmaster
