11 PLANNING FOR WATER To prepre sfest nd most relible emergency supply of wter, it is recommended you purchse commercilly bottled wter. Keep bottled wter in its originl continer nd do not open it until you need to use it. Be sure to notice the expirtion or "use by" dte. A normlly ctive person needs to drink t lest two qurts of wter ech dy. Children, nursing mothers, nd others my need more. Very hot tempertures cn double the mount of wter needed. Store t lest one gllon per person per dy, for drinking nd cooking. Store wter in thoroughly wshed plstic, glss, or enmel-lined metl continers. Recycle self-stored wter every six months. Recycle commercilly bottled wter every 12 months. Wit for help nd use sfety ger. GAS SHUT OFF Lern the loction of your gs meter nd how to shut off the supply vlve. Do not shut off the gs supply vlve unless you smell or her gs leking. If you hve "Nturl Gs" ( line from the street) the min shut-off vlve is locted next to your meter on the inlet pipe. Use wrench nd crefully give it qurter turn in either direction so tht the br runs crosswise on the pipe. The line is now closed. Shut off vlves covered with pint should be tpped gently to brek the sel; forcing the vlve cn brek it. If you hve propne (gs in tnk), turn off the min gs supply vlve if it is sfe to do so.

13 Every responsible member of your household should know where your electricl switch box is nd which switch controls power to your home. This switch my be found on the circuit breker pnel or it my be seprtely locted ner the meter. Remember - do not operte ny electricl switcnes if gs lek is suspected. To shut off the electricityis your home, turn off individul brekers first, then trie min switch. To turn bck on, turn on ttw min switch first, then individul brekers. WATER SHUT OFF The wter shut off vlve is found where the wter supply enters the house. Check with your wter compny to determine if specil tool is needed to turn the vlve. Consider instlling turn off vlve ner your home to help with leks or burst pipes inside. Wter is essentil for survivl but in n emergency, my be limited or unvilble. 17 PUBLIC SCHOOL CLOSURES Before School Hs Begun for the Dy If one or ll schools cnnot open due to unsfe rod conditions or other resons, district superintendents will declre school closure nd the school will notify locl rdio sttions to nnounce plnned closures. If conditions llow, district personnel including custodins, mintennce, nd office stff will report to work s usul. Once School Hs Begun Once school hs strted for the dy, students will remin until the regulr dismissl hour or until students re checked-out by n dult listed on their emergency crd. During bd wether, principls or other school representtives will remin on cmpus until ll students hve been picked up from school. Trnsport coordintors for the school will notify the principl nd superintendent if rod conditions in the re men tht students cnnot sfely leve.
