SCOUTMASTER S CORNER By the Scoutmaster, Mr. Jolly of course. Well this year has started off with a flurry of activities. The 50 mile bike trip on the cape along with the ocean canoeing was amazing. Seeing Ben attempting to 'ski' down a sand dune on the canoe paddles was a little comic relief. This weekend the troop is going on the Rhode Island scuba/snorkeling trip and the Camporee is just around the corner. In between all of that we have the Webelos weekend, troop meetings, and scouting for food. The pace is not expected to slow down as we enter winter. We are planning a Backpacking trip and there will be plenty of Klondike preparation. So get ready. This is going to be a fun year with lots of opportunities. While I am looking forward to every scout earning some merit badges advancing in rank, the most important thing we can accomplish is to work together as a troop. The word team has been used as an acronym to mean Together Everyone Accomplishes More. So lets be a TEAM as a troop. -Jim SENIOR PATROL LEADER S CORNER By Ben Pugh Hi Guys, I am very happy with the first couple troop meetings that we have had this year. We have also gained four new Scouts to our Troop: Tim Sahith, Connor and Aedan. I could see that they were very welcome. Again, I am very happy with the new year so far, and I hope that we keep up with this great place. PATROL CORNERS COUGAR PATROL By Roshan Tadi We have planned a meeting to help out the church and do the chess merit badge on the November 1st meeting. We will be cleaning up the outside of the church since they have been so nice to let us use their facilities we should return the favor. After that is completed get you strategy ready for a chess intro lesson. Since the following meeting is a tournament! BORDER PATROL By Austyn Duval For the Border Patrol this month I ran the 20th's meeting where we had Mr. Figuroa and Mr. Faust talk about SCUBA diving and all that kind of stuff and then we watched the Florida Sea Base video. We learned lots of cool facts and got everyone excited for the Rhode Island trip and maybe a future Sea Base adventure. SCORPION PATROL By Jehial Fish Hope everyone had a great summer. Matt Magoon moved to Colorado over the summer and we all want to wish him well. We off to a busy start this year. A lot coming up in October fall camporee and busy with fundraising. We also gearing up for star scout. Right now we are leaving for the RhodeIsland trip, hopefully we catch a lot of fish, would help if it stopped raining. Wishing everyone a great weekend. 2

PHOENIX PATROL By Ian Covell ORDER OF THE ARROW The Arrowhead Chapter held their monthly meeting at St. Christopher s Church in Nashua. We had Blast Car races, which is a Boy Scout version of a Pinewood Derby car. It s a larger car, and instead of a wooden track, the cars run on fishing line and are powered by CO 2 cartridges. What a ball! In October, the Chapter will hold Native American weapon competitions with tomahawks and atlatls thrown at pumpkins. October will also feature the Lodge Conference at Hidden Valley. The Scouts will attend seminars in the mornings and have interchapter competitions in the afternoon for various sports and other activities: Native American dancing, cribbage, Frisbee, volleyball etc. EAGLE STATUS BEN S PROJECT Hi guys, As many of you may know, I am working on my Eagle Scout project. I am almost finished making my designs for the shelves that will be put into the basement. Again I would like to thank everyone who helped me cleaning out the attics. We made great work out of them! Also I would like to thank everyone who helped to bake and also helped out at the bake sale. I doubled my estimate for how much money I would make with $ Thanks again for helping with my project and am looking forward to working with many of you in the future. RISHI S PLANS ROSHAN S PLANS Eagle project is coming along. I am presenting in front of the Troop Committee this Wednesday and on the following week Tuesday I will present in front of the Eagle Board. After that is completed I will be starting my eagle project. I will need a lot of volunteers so anyone one that can help is most welcome!. JAMES S PLANS This month I recently found out that I am unable to do my project due to local red tape (again). After the first project of building stairs at Souhegan Bridge was shot down due to erosion at the site, my second option was to build a staircase down to the river at Watson Park. Unfortunately, I have been unable to continue with this idea also. As it turns out, the water at Watson Park is not part of the town approved park area and adding infrastructure (my stairs) would increase the unwanted liability for the town. Now that my second idea has been shot down, I am back to square one. I am currently looking for the next project that comes my way for me to do. ALEX S PROJECT The first workday is this Sunday September 30th, for a little background on the eagle project we will be resetting the old headstones so that they are straight again at the Reed's Ferry Historical Gravesite. This site is located across from Walgreens, on the corner of Route 3 and Bedford Road. Hours will be from 10 AM until 2PM. This is the smaller of the two cemeteries that we will be restoring, in October we will be doing the larger site. Please RSVP so that I can get an accurate headcount for lunch. Also, I am looking to borrow a wheel barrow for this project, please let me know if anyone has one available even if you do not intend to be at the work day. 3

If you intend on being at the project please remember to bring work gloves and proper foot wear, we will be wearing our class B uniforms as well. Food will be provided, and plenty of water will be available. Thanks, I hope to see some of you there, Alex Elmer CURRENT/ FUTURE EVENTS RHODE ISLAND TRIP BY Ben Pugh Hey, guys, Since the trip is this weekend, and the due date for the newsletter was Thursday night, I cannot say that the weekend was great, but I can predict that I know everyone WILL have a blast. After the weekend, I will send out an update about how awesome the troop actually was. Ed. From Mrs. C. The high adventure people at the Council were blown away with what I told them about the plans for this trip. COURT OF HONOR By Bryce Stack This October, Dan and I will be running the Court of Honor on October 18 th. This will be a potluck supper, and we want the Scorpions and Border patrols to bring entrees, the Cougars to bring drinks and the Phoenix s to bring desserts. More details about the Court of Honor will be sent in an upcoming to the troop. FALL CAMPOREE By Austyn Duval The Fall Camporee "Night Ops" will be coming up soon on October 26th - 28th at Camp Carpenter. We will be having a meeting in October before the camporee to go over packing list, menu and the duty roster. We will also be practicing some skills that will be tested at the stations at some of the meetings in October. All scouts should be getting in their $15 and I will send out permission slips and patrol break outs. There will be two patrols. 5 Hi Scouts! Mr. Sween here. I hope that everyone had a great summer and are doing well at school. I ve had to travel quite a bit over the last few months but I m back! Once again Mr. Quimby and I are going to help you with the two BEST fund raisers of the year. The first is our Christmas Wreath sale and the second will be the Christmas Tree pick up. Shortly I will be ing everyone the documents for the wreath sale and I will be at the next Troop meeting to explain the process to everyone. This has been a GREAT fundraiser in which each Scout receives approximately 50% of the sale DIRECTLY into his Scout account to be used for any Scout related equipment, trips, camps dues, etc. Lookout for the and I ll see you then! EVENT REPORTS POSITION REPORTS DEN CHIEFING By Hayden Faust By Dan Figueroa I attended Pack 424's September pack meeting at Whip O Will. At the beginning of the meeting we looked through telescopes at the moon. After this activity the police K-9 unit came and did some demonstrations with Gunny the dog. It was really cool. We also looked through night vision goggles that the police brought with them. The pack handed out awards to the cub scouts and we ended the meeting 5

with a fire and made s'mores. It was a fun pack meeting. I also attended one den meeting and I helped the boys get their music belt loop and taught them some knots. It was a den good meeting. ASPL By Bryce Stack I am currently one of the ASPL s for the troop, and I am currenly planning and running a few upcoming events. I just completed my life rank, and I would like to personally welcome the 4 new scouts to our troop! SCRIBE POSITION EMPTY INSTRUCTOR Blake Bormuth TROOP GUIDE By Alex Elmer So far as a troop guide I haven't been able to attend a lot of trips, I have been quite caught up in this eagle project, but I look forward to the Webelos Weekend. LIBRARIAN By Joe Mroz Anyone looking to borrow a book from the library, please contact me. I will have a new list with all current books in our library soon. I still have three outstanding books that have not been brought back. I will tracking down those scouts that need to return the books. Remember when you donate your used colored merit badge book, you will get one dollar placed in your scout account for each book. BUGLER By Adam Parenteau HISTORIAN Position Open CHAPLAIN AIDE By Luc Gauvin The scout oath and law tell us to be reverent, keeping that in mind, it is a good time to start thinking about the religious emblem, no matter what your faith. if anyone is interested contact me at LGauvin@Gauvintech.com. If anyone has any prayer requests, send them to me. Thank you. TROOP COMMITTEE REPORTS COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN By Mr. Mroz WEBSITE Mr. Roy 6

EQUIPMENT By Mr. Pugh UNIFORMS By Beth Parenteau I have taken over Tina Magoon's position of Uniform Coordinator. If anyone is in need of hats, neckerchiefs, class B shirts, or would like to peruse through our used items, please contact me at Junebug060966@yahoo.com. If you have used items that still have some useful wear and would like to donate them, please bring them to our meetings. Can pay by using your Scout Account or with a check made to Troop 424. Scout accounts include the fundraisers so far. Next month you will see popcorn sales The attendance is for Sept. except for the Rhode Island trip, which has not yet occurred. It does not include any Eagle project time in Sept. That will be calculated at the end of the project. Next month this chart will also include Year-To-Date Attendance. In order to be considered active you should have at least 67% attendance. To explain how the figures work: The troop calendar shows when an event is required. All Troop meetings are required, and usually one weekend event in the month is required. If you fail to attend that event, you get a zero. If you attend, you get a one. For non-required or optional events, you get a one for taking part, but do not get a zero for non-attendance. So, the number of events with numbers on them divided into the number of events with ones equals the percentage. Five events and you attended 2 gives you 40%. You can never go over 100%. 8
