6 Bakersfield Swapmeet 2016 The 2016 Bakersfield swap meet was held on April in.. Bakersfield, California. As was typical this time of year in Bakersfield, we had weather, this year it was decent with temperatures in the 70 s on Friday and predicted for 80 s on Saturday. We were told that the spaces were sold out prior to the event. On Friday it appeared to be about 10% empty (just a guess), but a good crowd of buyers. There seemed to be a broad expanse of wares for sale as usual from toys to rims to carburetors and clothing. There was also a large array of cars for sale in various stages of restoration. The main thing we noticed this year was the high prices being asked for some of the items: $1500 for a 1914 license plate, $17.50 for pair of Weed Levelizer (what ever that is), $1200 for a Smith Motor Wheel, $3600 for a 1914 Excelsior and thousands of dollars for headlamps. The best part of the meet was meeting and greeting old friends and acquaintances. I will not try to list everyone because I m sure I will miss someone. Rest assured that we were delighted to see and speak with everyone we could. We are including some pictures to give you a feel of what you missed by not attending or a reminder if you were there. 11 Bay Area Regional Group Museum tour On Saturday April 23, 2016 we were treated to a tour of two fine museums in the Stockton area arranged by the Bay Area RG HCCA. The main group of members started with a breakfast in Dublin and carpooled to Stockton. We joined the crowd at 10:00 at Pat s collection. Pat has been collecting cars and memorabilia for years and was gracious enough to allow us into his private world of fine automobiles, Thank you Pat. We have included some pictures to depict his collection. We had a wonderful lunch at Valley Brew Restaurant on a very pleasant patio. The food was plentiful and delicious and the service was first rate. After lunch we found the Haggin Museum in Stockton. Exhibits include paintings by Bierstadt, Leyendecker and Renoir to mention a few artists and displays of early firefighting equipment, native Americans, and mining operations in the Stockton area. Pictures are provided for your enjoyment or envy. Ed. 10
