1 WEEKLY WRAP UP 2018 August 1, 2018 Disclaimer: The Weekly Wrap Up includes some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the past week or so. This writing may contain spelling and/or grammatical errors, which are a direct result of my lack of paying attention in class. Sandy Springs borders the northern city limits of Atlanta meaning we get a lot of they get, only mostly in smaller portions. This is not Mayberry folks so just realize that things do happen Robbery block Spring Creek La /31 A 33-year old man reported to police that a man robbed him inside the apartment complex located at 4300 block of Spring Creek Lane. He told officers that he arrived home just before 5 p.m. It was raining so he ducked into a breezeway and was looking at his phone when a man suddenly approached him and demanded his money. He told the perp he had only three dollars and he could have it. The man pulled a gun and pointed at the victim and again demanded money. Again, he was told all he had was three dollars. The man ordered the victim to go up the stairs and not to turn around. The suspect then fled. The lookout is that of a black male, years old, about six-feet tall, wearing a gray hoodie. Burglary Roswell Road /30 The resident said her cellphone and computer were taken from her apartment. She said she leaves the door unlocked for convenience. She said the burglary took place between the 5 th and 6 th of July.

2 Larceny block PDR /26 Extended Stay America-The complainant said while staying at Extended Stay America, at some point during the day when he was gone, someone stole his handgun from the holster that was inside a duffle bag block Glenridge Place /26 The complainant said just before 1 p.m., a man, described as a black male, 6-1 to 6-3 and slender with a red cap, black long-sleeve shirt, red shorts, blue socks, and who appeared to be in his twenties, took two packages from his doorstep. The theft was recorded on video. The items taken were a pair of shoes and a cap Roswell Road /27 QT-A man reported he left his phone in the restroom. He realized it and returned, then called his phone number. He heard it ring from the restroom. The door was lock. He knocked and called the phone again. During this time, he heard the toilet flush. The phone then went silent. A man came out of the restroom who denied knowing anything about the phone. The victim checked but the phone was no longer in the restroom. He obtained the man s tag number and gave it to the officer who responded Westfair Court /27 (Theft of mail) The complainant said she ordered medication that never arrived. She said a neighbor found the package that had been opened. The contents included medicine that needed to be refrigerated immediately.

9445 1000 Johnson Ferry Road 30342 7/27 MVT-The complainant said he parked his 2009 VW CC Sport in the parking deck at around 7:15. He told the officer he left the keys in the car.

3 Johnson Ferry Road /27 MVT-The complainant said he parked his 2009 VW CC Sport in the parking deck at around 7:15. He told the officer he left the keys in the car. When he returned just after 10 a.m., the car was gone. Video showed a black male, about six-feet in height, slim, wearing a red t-shirt, jeans, and black tennis shoes with white soles. He had a shaggy haircut and carried a red backpack. He exited the 9 th floor stairs and took the car block Sandalwood Drive /27 The resident reported a UPS package was delivered, and then stolen from his apartment. The package contained an iphone Battle Ridge /28 The resident reported that a package, delivered around 4 p.m. was stolen. The package contained a car seat Roswell Road /28 The complainant said he was sitting on his doorsteps with his phone. He momentarily left to return inside, then returned to the steps to find that his phone was gone block River Vista Drive /29 The complainant s Sondors electric bike was stolen from a shared storage area Roswell Road /29 The complainant said her Mazda 6 car was stolen Hammond Drive /30 The complainant said his 2015 red Nissan Altima was stolen from the visitor s parking area of the condos.

4 block Roswell Road /30 The complainant said she left a black suitcase outside of her apartment at around 8:45 p.m. She went back outside at 9:30 p.m. and the suitcase was gone. She told the officer there was nothing of value inside the suitcase but she felt violated block Roswell Road /31 (Theft of mail) A 29-year old man reported that he shipped a new iphone, valued at $1000, to an address in Louisiana. He was later told the box he shipped was empty. The box appeared to have been cut from the bottom and then re-sealed. He told officers he shipped from the UPS store and watched as the package was sealed. UPS has initiated an investigation into the theft. Fraud Complaints 9390 7901 Roswell Road 30350 7/26 Former property manager at Dunwoody Pointe Apartments is suspected of cashing money orders intended for rent payments.

5 Fraud Complaints Roswell Road /26 Former property manager at Dunwoody Pointe Apartments is suspected of cashing money orders intended for rent payments block Lexington Place /26 Wells Fargo fraud department reported a possible fraud after a customer had his account accessed, money deposited, then an attempt to withdraw $1746 was made against the account Dunwoody Club Dr /26 A 56-year old Marietta man is suspected of an attempt to cash a $1682 check from a company in Cincinnati. Officers were told this man and another were caught doing the same thing in Brookhaven block Parkerton Lane /27 Victim said someone used his name and personal information to open a fake construction company. SunTrust Bank informed him that the company bank account was overdrawn over $17, Roswell Road /27 (Rag-O-Rama) The company buys used clothing from customers. The complainant wrote a check for $28. That check was later altered to read $2400. The person who sold the clothing and took the check is suspected of doing the same in Atlanta and has an active warrant. That person is Jordan Daniel who owns a Tennessee DL block Summerset La /30 The victim said someone in Dallas Texas used her information to lease an apartment block Chemin De Vie /30 The victim reported someone used his personal information to open an account with Charles Schwabb Co. The company cancelled the account before any activity occurred. Case Raging Libidos A 41-year old man reported that he conducts business for his auto dealership on Facebook. On July 29, he answered a friend request that appeared to be one of his 40-plus contacts on social media. He soon received nude photos from a woman who said she was 26-years old and lived in Germany. He responded by sending nude photos of himself. Shortly after, the woman, or someone informed him, that she was a minor and he was participating in child porn. A demand for money soon followed. Later, to make things worse, he was suspended from his workplace pending an investigation.

6 Well if you read this report enough you ll recognize that this is not the first time we ve seen this scenario. Guys remember this: Don t let Little Elvis leave the building! Recognize that unsolicited nude photos of women may not be a legit signal to return the favor. Assault Johnson Ferry Road /27 A 51-year old man was arrested after he was observed injecting an unknown substance into the IV line of a patient at Northside Hospital. According to the report, the patient went into cardiac arrest with a minute but was revived and later taken to ICU where he is recovering Sandy Springs Place /27 A 30-year old woman, employed by Marco s Pizza, said she accidentally bumped into a co-worker who then punched her in the arm and then yelled at her in front of customers block Glenridge Drive /28 A 28-year old man said he took Marta from Decatur to Sandy Springs to meet with his uncle at his workplace somewhere on Glenridge Drive. The victim told officers he came up to smoke marijuana and hang out. He met his uncle at an office, then briefly excused himself to the bathroom. When he came out, he was looking into his phone. He looked up to see his uncle who then began punching him in the face. He told officers his uncle was mad over the victim doing something with his daughter, aka cousin of the victim. A friend took the victim to St. Joseph s Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his face. So far, the victim cannot provide any information on his uncle other than his name Northwood Drive /28 A 35-year old man reported that shortly after 2 a.m., he and his friend were walking from LaDona Club when five Hispanic males, armed and demanding money, approached them. The victim tried to run but fell and then beaten with a metal pipe. The suspects stole his friend s wallet and phone before fleeing. The victim was treated for injuries including a large laceration to his leg. The only descriptions of the suspects was that they wore all black and had afro-style haircuts.

7 PDR /30 A man reported to police he hired a Lyft driver to take him to Perimeter Mall to buy clothes for his son. According to the complainant, the driver did not follow directions to the mall so he attempted to correct it. The driver became verbally abusive so the complainant told her he wanted out. She said something to the effect I ll handle you (him,) and at some point let it be known she had a pistol in the car. He said the gun was never pointed at him or even shown. To date, they have not identified the driver although the driver herself called 911, at the same time the complainant did, to report the incident and told the call taker that she did have a weapon in the car. Other Possible Areas of Interest 9604 Glenridge Connector /31 A woman called police and reported that a man in a black truck cut her off in traffic along GA 400 and Sydney Marcus. The truck then followed her and drove aggressively until one point when he passed her and pointed a pistol at her. She obtained the tag number of the truck, registered to a man in Atlanta. Okay, Let s Review You should lock your door as one victim found out. She said she left the door unlocked for convenience which turned out to be convenient for the burglar. It takes only a second to lock up and another to unlock. Come on! Another poor soul left his car parked in the parking deck and his keys in the car. At least make it difficult for the bad guy. Guys, stop taking nude photos of yourself. Let s just leave it at that. Also, if you must do that thing you do, put a sticky note over the camera eye. Stop smoking dope with your uncle. Sometimes fraud cannot be avoided. Sometimes it is just luck of the draw, you getting the short straw. There are things you can do but remember even though you may be at risk with all that information out there, remember to be vigilant in checking your credit history and

8 reviewing card statements so that if your information was compromised, you ll find out sooner so you can recover and protect your information sooner.

9 Arrests /Northridge DUI / Roswell No Insurance /Northridge No Insurance Roswell Road Cruelty to Children 9431 Roswell/Northridge DUI 9488 Harbor Point Pkwy DUI Sandy Springs Place Shoplifting 9596 Northridge/ Cocaine Possession This Week s Einsteins Courtesy of Chuck Shepherd s News of the Weird Faith Pugh of Memphis, Tennessee, had a date to remember on July 14 with Kelton Griffin. Her casual acquaintance from high school "just out of the blue texted me and asked me to go out," Pugh told WREG-TV. They took her car and stopped at a gas station, where Griffin asked Pugh to go inside and buy him a cigar. But while she was inside, "He drove off. I came outside and my car was gone," Pugh said. Shortly, Pugh received a text from her godsister, telling her Griffin had just asked her out on a date. He picked up the godsister in Pugh's car and headed to a drive-in movie. "He didn't even have any money," Pugh said. "She actually paid their way to get in the drive-in just so I could get my car back." Pugh alerted the police to the car's location, and they arrested Griffin for theft of property. "I hope he's in jail for a long time," Pugh said. [WREG-TV, 7/17/2018]

10 On Jan. 25, 71-year-old Alan J. Abrahamson of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, went for his regular pre-dawn walk to Starbucks. What happened on the way stumped police investigators until March, reported The Washington Post, and on July 13 they made their findings public. Images from a surveillance camera show Abrahamson walking out of his community at 5:35 a.m. and about a half-hour later, the sound of a gunshot is heard. Just before 7 a.m., a dog found Abrahamson's body, lying near a walking path. Police found no weapon, no signs of a struggle; he still had his wallet and phone. Investigators initially worked the case as a homicide, but as they dug deeper into the man's computer searches and purchases over the past nine years, a theory developed: Abrahamson had tied a gun to a weather balloon filled with helium, shot himself, and then the gun drifted away to parts unknown. A thin line of blood on Abrahamson's sweatshirt indicated to police that "something with the approximate width of a string passed through the blood on the outside of the shirt," the final report says. As for the balloon, investigators said it would likely have ascended to about 100,000 feet and exploded somewhere north of the Bahamas in the Atlantic Ocean. [The Washington Post, 7/15/2018]
