2 WEEKLY WRAP UP 2017 April 6, 2017 Disclaimer: The Weekly Wrap Up includes some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the past week or so. Any opinions or other comments that may be deemed sharp or even sarcastic are mine and do not reflect the City of Sandy Springs nor the SSPD nor anyone associated with SSPD nor anyone living within two square miles, as the crow flies, of SSPD. This writing may contain spelling and / or grammatical errors, which are a direct result of my public schooling and the fact that for some reason, Word Spell-Check freaks out and says it cannot run spell check. I try to do it manually but soon fall tired of this repetitive routine and then nap for several SunTrust Park Traffic Last Friday s traffic monitoring of the game traffic for the Braves / Yankees game was a non-event. The game was limited to the season-ticket holders I m told so the crowd was about 20,000 or so. No impact for us but then again, how could you tell that from the normal Insane Friday Evening Traffic? Keep in mind on April 14, the first homestand takes place and that too will be on IFET! Spring Break-This is a good time for burglars to work the suburbs so if you are leaving, go to and on the police section, make arrangements by filling out the form, to have your home checked while you are gone. Also, if you are staying home, we re urging folks to keep a close eye on suspicious activity, mostly being foot traffic and slow-cruising cars in your neighborhoods. Most residential burglaries are daytime so don t second guess yourself. Call if it looks suspicious.

3 Crime and Punishment for This Week Robbery 145 Northwood Drive / A 19-year old said he was robbed at about 5 am, after he saw two black males looking into cars. The two spotted him and then took $5 from the victim at gunpoint. They left in a 2000 model Honda Civic, brown in color. The suspect who had the gun was 5-6 and about 170 pounds and wore a nose ring. He had on a gray striped hoodie, dark pants and had some sort of design cut into his hair on the right side of his head. 250 Northridge Road / (Waffle House) Around 8:30 pm, an employee was cleaning inside the store when a man walked in from the rear open door. The man pulled a gun and ordered the employee to give him the bag. The employee replied that he didn t have it. Another employee had a key to the safe and retrieved a bank bag with an undisclosed amount of cash. The man took it and fled. The suspect: Mask, orange gloves, restaurant style shoes, dressed in all black, mumbled in a thick New York accent. One of the employees said he thought the man sounded like that of one of the regulars at the Waffle House. Burglary 7100 block PDR / Aspire Apartments. Someone entered the maintenance shed sometime between 4 pm on the 18 th and 9 am on the 20 th. AC repair items were taken block Hammond Drive / (Domino s) The employee said she opened the store for the day and found that the money in the safe was missing. There was no forced entry to the store or the safe. The camera facing the safe had been turned downward block Monterrey Pkwy / The residents were asleep in the apartment when they heard a noise from the living room, described as things being moved around. Upon investigation, they found that someone had just aborted the effort to steal a 60-inch TV by pulling it through a 58-inch hole, which resulted in abandoning the attempt. The burglar got $130 from a purse.

4 8100 block Colquitt Road / The resident said someone entered her apartment and took a bracelet and HP Laptop. She suspects it was in inside job because there was no forced entry. 553 Northridge Road /31 The resident said someone entered her apartment and stole a tool box. She said she was in the process of moving out and the turn key service was inside. She suspects them. Theft 3900 block of Treelodge Pkwy /20 The resident said a package was taken from the doorstep between 1-6 pm Roswell Road /20 An ipad was stolen from an area behind the Lifetime Fitness building. An instructor was setting up equipment and left the area for 5 minutes. During that time, someone took the ipad. 227 Sandy Springs Place /22 (Kroger) An 82-year old woman said someone took her wallet from her purse while she shopped. She was approached by a man described as a tall black male who ask her directions on a box of pasta. She said after he left, her wallet was missing Hammond Drive /22 A patrol officer spotted a black Nissan Rouge parked in the shopping center lot around 10 pm. The Kansas tag indicated the car was stolen from Hertz rental. No driver was with the car. It was impounded Roswell Road / The employee of a store said two people came in and stole a bottle of Moet White Star ($58.99.) After he noticed the bottle missing from inventory, the employee checked the video and saw a male and female, both whom he recognized, take the bottle.

5 6300 Powers Ferry Road / (Publix) The employee said two white males stole a handbasket full of groceries. Later the same employee spotted a car containing the same guys whom she recognized by his distinctive mullet haircut. The tag on the car was tracked and the cops went to a Dalrymple Road address and spoke to the suspects who had extensive history of shoplifting. No charges were filed at the time however. (See Mullet) Willow Glen / The victim reported that overnight, someone stole her vehicle, an Acura MDX, gray in color Mt. Vernon Hwy /28 An employee of Mattress Firm said she left her iphone and MacBook on her work desk while she went to the restroom. When she returned, both were gone Mt. Vernon Hwy /29 A 45-year old man said he locked his wallet and contents into the gym locker. Later, after returning home, he was notified by that his credit card balances were low. He found that several of his cards were gone and used at Lowes and Home Depot. He discovered his lock was damaged and appeared had been struck by a heavy-duty object to open it block Roswell Road /29 A 29-year old woman said someone stole packages from her door. Amazon placed them there just after 3 pm. This is an apartment address and it seems too easy to steal from. So many people probably pass the doorway. I would try and figure out another location for delivery maybe a PO box if they would accommodate block Colquitt Road /31 A 45-year old woman loaned her car to her boyfriend so that he could go to work. She hasn t seen him since.

6 6690 Roswell Road / LA Fitness: A 71-year old man said his locker was entered (by defeating a cheap combination lock.) A.22 gun and $50 cash was taken Central Pkwy /31 The victim reported her red Honda CRV was stolen from a covered garage area between 4 and 4:30 pm. 7 8000 blk Dunwoody Place /29 Client paid $3475 to law firm to represent him-claims they did not and kept the money. (4080) 7840 Roswell Road /29 Fraudulent Sprint phone account set up and charged $2500 Other Things A 23-year old man said he was contacted on LinkedIn by someone calling himself Mr. Max Romoleroux, who offered him a job as secret shopper. They agreed and the suspect said he would send directions on what to do next. He later sent a package with a Remsen, NY return address, instructing him to buy several items from any Apple Store. Also enclosed was a check for expenditures plus $300 for the victim. He took the check to the bank whose staff informed him the check was fake. He did not lost money on the deal block of Sandalwood Drive / A 25-year old man said he received about 40 text messages in Spanish that he owed a woman $300 and if he didn t pay, the sender(s) would do things similar to the photos that were attached. The photos were of dead bodies, probably taken off the Internet, and a photo of the victim, taken from his Facebook profile. He does not know who is sending the text messages. ODD BUT TRUE 3920-St. Joe s Hospital staff reported that on the 25 th, a patient with an IV inserted, said he had to leave to close his store for the night. Later, they discovered that he did in fact leave with the IV intact. The hospital wants the IV back. Arrests 5610 Roswell Road / Target security detained a woman for stealing $99 in items, all the while on camera. She was taken to the Fulton Jail annex in Alpharetta. A second arrest was made on the 23 rd when a woman stole $34 in makeup and other related items. She was charged with Shoplifting.

8 1050 Hammond Drive /23 A 20-year old woman was arrested on prostitution charges after posting an Internet ad that was later answered by detectives. She was booked on city ordinances including Solicitation for an Illicit Act Johnson Ferry Road / An off-duty officer, working at Northside Hospital ER, arrested one man for making threats to a medical professional administering treatment to an acquaintance. The man threatened to kill the person and would make his family pay. The suspect was jailed on Terroristic Threats. 450 Morgan Falls Rd / (Sunday) A man reported that he was walking his dog in the athletic complex of Morgan Falls Park just before 9 pm. The park was empty. He observed an older grey sedan pull up near where his car was parked. A man described as a black male, got out, walked over to his car, and looked inside. The witness saw two other men inside the car. The suspect re-entered the grey sedan. A second car, red, 2-door, pulled up near the first. The two cars appeared to be leaving the area when the witness heard yelling back and forth between the two cars. The same suspect, who looked in his car, got out, walked around near the red car, and fired a weapon 3-4 times at the red car. He re-entered his grey car and then both cars fled the area. No later reports of persons injured nor a red vehicle damaged were received. The identity of those involved remains unknown Roswell Road /28 A juvenile male was arrested after Target Store staff watched him take a box of Trojan Condoms, open the box, and then took several that he concealed in his pants pockets.

9 EINSTEINS OF THE WEEK Courtesy of Chuck Shepherd s News of the Weird On the morning of March 20 in Winter Park, Florida, Charles Howard, standing outside his home being interviewed live by a WFTV reporter, denied he had committed a crime in a widely reported series of voic messages to a U.S. Congressman, containing threats to "wrap a rope around your neck and hang you from a lamp post." He boasted that "proof" of his having done nothing wrong was that if he had, he would have already been arrested. "Three minutes later," according to the reporter, agents drove up and arrested Howard. [WFTV (Orlando), ] Royce Atkins, 23, told the judge in Northampton County (Pennsylvania) in March that he was so sorry he did not stop his car in 2015 and help that 9-year-old boy he had just hit and killed. However, Atkins had earlier been jailhouse-recorded viciously trash-talking the boy's family for "reacting like they're the victims. What about my family? My family is the victim, too." (Atkins got a four-year sentence.) In February, in a Wayne County (Michigan) court during sentencing for a DUI driver who had killed a man and severely injured his fiancee, Judge Qiana Lillard kicked the driver's mother out of the courtroom for laughing at the victim's sister who was tearfully addressing the judge. (Lillard sentenced the mother to 93 days for contempt, but later reduced it to one day). [Lehigh Valley Live, ] [CBS News, ]
