We ve had a fantastic start to the year with six incredible exhibitions showcasing the work of 30 designers here in Sydney, not to mention our five touring exhibitions on the road around Australia. Thank you to everyone. From visitors here in Sydney and across regional Australia, to the touring venues who present our exhibitions so beautifully, to the artists who trust us to present their work, you are all instrumental in celebrating excellence in Australian design. There s lots of things happening in and around ADC over the next month. We'd love you to join us for some upcoming events and help us to celebrate International Museum Day. A special Mother s Day shopping event at Object Shop, the call for expressions of interest to participate in Sydney Craft Week and the launch of Let's Tea Party: Taiwan Design Now, are just some of the big things happening this month. We re so privileged to have two fabulous creative people working on our team as Australian First Nations Creative Producers. Please take the time to read about them here. 2 Lisa Cahill CEO and Artistic Director Become an ADC supporter by making a donation today Australia needs an innovative design focused future to help solve the big challenges. Tackling the effects of climate change, making cities more liveable and the impact of an ageing population are all problems facing us today. A focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/ Design and Mathematics) in our education system is essential for producing future innovative, creative thinkers. Australian Design Centre is a platform that showcases, mentors and promotes makers and designers by: making exhibitions that inspire audiences building marketplaces for artists to test and sell their work presenting conversations and events that ignite creative ideas through craft and design. As a not for profit enterprise we need your help to do this work. You can help by visiting our exhibitions, buying from our retail space Object Shop, becoming an ADC Friend or by making a donation. 4 ADC Annual Report 2017 In 2017 ADC became a destination for people looking to engage with creative ideas. We presented 10 exhibitions, over 100 events including the popular outdoor markets, our new gallery Object Space, toured five exhibitions to 11 stops across Australia and produced a ten day festival of contemporary craft. First Nations Creative Producers In 2017, ADC was successful in securing an Aboriginal Employment Program grant from Create NSW to employ a First Nations Creative Producer. Lucy Simpson and Dennis Golding, both exceptional creative people, talk with Lisa Cahill, CEO about their background and what they bring to this role.
