This week we open three new exhibitions in collaboration with some exceptional artists and organisations.

Click here Website What's on News On Tour Donate Object Shop Every day here at ADC we are privileged to work with so many of Australia s craftspeople and designers. This week we open three new exhibitions in collaboration with some exceptional artists and organisations. Joshua Smith has worked with us to lend his keen eye and incredible talent putting Sydney s grimier side under the microscope. The City of Sydney and the NSW Architects Registration Board are our funding partners for Urban Decay: Joshua Smith. We are eternally grateful for their belief in this project. UTS helped us with some exhibition design challenges and they have written an insightful essay about the project. Our First Nations Creative Producer Dennis Golding has curated the window gallery Object Space with the iconic work of the exceptional artist and La Perouse Elder Esme Timbery. We thank the Sydney Opera House Trust for lending us these works from their collection. As co chair of the Australian Craft and Design Network I am always looking for opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from around the country so it is an honour to present Painting with Thread from the Australian Tapestry Workshop. ATW are masters at weaving designs by some 1/17

2 of Australia s most accomplished artists including the magnificent work by Guan Wei in the exhibition. ADC on Tour exhibition Shapeshifters: 3D Printing the Future is reaching the end of its three year tour funded by Visions of Australia, the Federal Government s National Exhibition Touring Program. Last week we held a forum about current and future use of the technology and launched a publication. This also marked the launch of Object Platform our new online space for delving into design ideas. Hope you enjoy the read and join our conversation in this space. Object Shop celebrates two years in September and so we ve decided to take our retail space online! You can shop some of the best handmade work online and in store now. It's never too early to start shopping for Christmas. ADC has a fine collection of documentary films produced over the years to accompany our exhibitions and give further insights into artists practices. We were delighted to have the film we made about weaver Liz Williamson for Obsessed: Compelled to make selected for the UK Crafts Council/Crafts Magazine International Film festival. This was a catalyst for our decision to present the Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival 2018 here in Sydney at The Chauvel Cinema in Paddington on 5 and 6 September. There are 28 documentary short films about the process of making and various crafts. Tickets are now available and selling fast so please mark this date and secure your seats. Sydney Craft Week kicks off on 5 October. We re working our way through the many, many registered events in the Festival and will start revealing all before the program launches on 14 September. Painting with Thread: Samples and Tapestries from the Australian Tapestry Workshop 2 August 26 September Painting with Thread is an exhibition of recent tapestries and samples from the collection of the Australian Tapestry Workshop, Melbourne (ATW). Founded in 1976, the ATW is recognised as an international leader in the production of hand woven tapestries and is the only workshop of its kind in Australia. 3/17

7 Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival In the lead up to Sydney Craft Week, Australian Design Centre (ADC) presents Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival in Sydney on 5 and 6 September Real to Reel is a short film festival that celebrates craft and making in all its facets: traditional, contemporary, subversive and diverse. Featuring an eclectic program of 28 short films (across two screenings), the films have been selected from around the globe. There s an incredible array of styles, people and approaches from BAFTA winning, hand crafted animation and music videos to glimpses behind the scenes of makers studios, a lifesize ceramic car and so much more. 8 Women in Design Design Tasmania has joined with Australian Design Centre to present the 2018 Women in Design Colloquium. This year s theme is Making a Design Culture, and will look at the different ways this can be explored: materiality, ethics, and identity. This theme will initiate talks and dialogues from people, asking the question: How do we create an inclusive and well informed culture of design? 11 Object Platform ADC's ideas hub This month we are excited to launch Object Platform, a place that exists in the digital sphere to experiment, prototype new thinking, spark physical provocations and commission new content. Object Platform launched with an event Printing the Future: Innovations in 3D Printing and a printed publication last week at ADC. 3D Printing the Future is a newspaper style publication that includes articles by some of Australia s leading experts on 3D printing. Head over to Object Platform to read 3D Printing the Future and some intriguing essays and interviews including Locational Specificity, an essay by Luke Tipene and Campbell Drake from UTS investigating Joshua Smith's miniatures and spatial politics in Sydney. Sydney Contemporary ticket offer Sydney Contemporary, Australasia s premier international art fair, returns from September showcasing the work of over 300 leading artists from more than 30 countries.
