2 About Cairns Business Excellence Awards (BEX) The Cairns Business Excellence Awards, brought to you by the Cairns Chamber of Commerce, is one of our regions most prestigious and celebrated annual business events. The Awards celebrate business excellence and acknowledge outstanding business practices and contributions to our community. The Cairns Business Excellence Awards recognises individuals and organisations that have achieved outstanding results in their industry, field and within our community. 3 Award Categories Legacy Award Hall of fame (Significant contribution to the Cairns Community) This will be awarded to an individual who meets the criteria below: The Legacy Award recognises individuals for their outstanding contributions to the Cairns Business Community. The winner will be awarded for their commitment to professional excellence, business growth and community contributions. Nominees are judged on the following criteria: Business Achievements; Innovations in Service; Product or Technology; Management/Employee Relations; Employee Training and Development; HR; Commitment to Community; Environment; Customer Service. *Nominations for this category can only come from a third party. The third party will have access to a nomination checklist and all boxes must be ticked off for the nominee to be eligible. People Management Excellence Award This will be awarded to an individual who meets the criteria below: The People Management Excellence Award is a valuable way to acknowledge an individual who has demonstrated excellence in people management. It celebrates the value that great HR can have, and provides an opportunity for the best in the profession to be recognised for the fantastic work being done by their peers and colleagues. The winner would have effectively shaped their success by delivering outstanding growth and development through a focus on empowering people. Customer Service Excellence Award This award recognises an organisation who demonstrates excellence in customer service. This organisation has effectively driven growth and ensured success through exceptional customer service. The winner would have demonstrated customer service levels that exceed customer expectations through the implementation of customer service initiative or innovative design

4 Marketing & Communications Excellence Award This award recognises organisations that have most effectively capitalised on market opportunities, integrated innovative marketing techniques and driven demonstrable business success. Emerging Leadership Excellence Award This will be awarded to an individual who meets the criteria below: This award recognises the inspirational business leaders aged between years who, through their own commitment and passion, has either built and operates a successful business, or is working towards a senior position in an SME (CEO, director, manager or equivalent title). This award recognises emerging business leaders who have effectively shaped their organisations success and delivered outstanding growth and development. The winner would demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, strategic direction and innovative ideas whilst providing inspiration to a new generation of upcoming young business people. Indigenous Business Excellence Award The Indigenous Business Excellence Award will be awarded to an organisation that displays business excellence and is majority owned by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Peoples. It recognises exceptional business achievement and outstanding practices in managing an organisation. The winner would have demonstrated leadership, effective strategic planning, outstanding business results, be customer focused and have excellent staffing skills Community Contribution Excellence Award - SOLD The Community Contribution Award will be awarded to an organisation based on their community contribution. This award recognises organisations that have implemented policies or executed projects that positively impact on the Cairns community and generates outcomes that have a long term benefit. The winner would show commitment to taking care of the Cairns community in which we operate and setting the standard as a trusted organisatio

5 Sustainability / Environmental Excellence Award The Sustainability Award will be awarded to an organisation based on their sustainability processes. This award recognises organisations that are working to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment and / or provide products and services that have positive environmental outcomes. The winner would demonstrate responsible business practices that improve their overall impact on society, by implementing innovative sustainable practices that benefit or involve the local community Business Technology Excellence Award The Business Technology Award will be awarded to an organisation who has demonstrated excellence in business technology. This award recognises companies that use innovative technologies to drive better efficiency and productivity as well as the outcomes and performance of their organisation. The purpose of the Business Technology Award is to highlight the innovative technology being used or developed in the Cairns Region. Project Management Excellence Award The Project Management Award will be awarded to an organisation who has demonstrated excellence in Project Management. This award recognises organisations that have made outstanding contributions on a particular project, through leadership, technical project management, and strategic and business management acumen. Trades & Services Excellence Award The Trades & Services Excellence Award celebrates and acknowledges the industry that underpins the City's economic base. Applicants should highlight the quality of the business' attention to detail in finishing and overall craftsmanship. The business should demonstrate new and improved innovative techniques and solutions in this industry sector. Trade & Services applicants should demonstrate the technical ability of the trade contractor and/or service provider and challenges overcome in construction their profession.
