By the next edition, we will have held our election of Executive and Office Bearers, and I anticipate there will be some changes. I would like to thank all members of the Club for their participation over the last year. The highlight of the year was the celebration of the Club s 50th Anniversary. It was great to see so many members participate and in particular catching up with former members who have left the club for other pursuits. I would like to acknowledge the contact we made with Col and Gay Vardy after nearly 40 years. Unfortunately, on a sad note, Col was very ill at the time of the anniversary and passed away in August. So what do we have to look forward to. Now is the Club Information time to prepare your nomination for a position on the Executive of the Club (President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, 2 ordinary members), or perhaps to serve the Club as an office bearer (Club Captain, Editor, Caterer). The nomination documentation will be made available in the coming weeks. Further, 2020 is Townsville s turn to host the Hub Rally. This will be the 46th running of the Rally. This rally, which has been going since 1973 and named by Col Vardy, now has the support of the Queensland Historic Motoring Council. This will be our premier activity for 2020, but will have to be organised during the coming Club year. Safe motoring Frank Cerutti, President. Club Captain's Report Gary Parker We had a busy year last year with an average of two runs a month, with November being no different from the rest of the year.

4 Club Captain's Report Gary Parker We had a busy year last year with an average of two runs a month, with November being no different from the rest of the year. We had the club s Christmas breakup, Willows Santa Parade and the Burdekin Christmas Party. In December there was only one event the Christmas Light Run which was cancelled because of bad weather. Both the Christmas Parties were well attended with members from the Burdekin going to Townsville and Townsville members going to the Burdekin I would like to thank all those Members who helped throughout the year as there are times when I was not available due to work commitments will be a full-on year once again with most of the first half of the year calendar already filled with events and runs. Starting with our yearly new years run, this year it will be a local run to a hotel for lunch, this will be a perfect run for our older cars. Then we will have our Fish and Chips run to Bushland Beach. We will also have our normal yearly events like the Easter Rally in Mackay this year, Townsville Heritage Day, All British Day and I am sure the club will be involved in the Townsville Combined Club Swap Meet again this year and many more events as well as runs and events that turn up as we progress throughout the year. Points to Ponder WORLD WAR ELEVEN This really makes a point And think, if they are not teaching cursive writing in grammar schools, how are they going to verify signatures for voting!! This just shows how bad education as gotten when teachers do not know our history and are teaching our youth YOUNG PEOPLE CANNOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ANY MORE BECAUSE HISTORY IS NO LONGER TAUGHT AS A REQUIRED SUBJECT IN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS. Theodore Dutch J. Van Kirk was the navigator on the Enola Gay when it dropped the bomb at Hiroshima, Japan, and is the last surviving member of the crew. This really happened. Dutch was asked to speak at a grammar school this past week. The young teacher introduced him by saying the speaker was a veteran of World War Eleven (as in WWII). Dutch stood up and walked out of the school without saying a word. End of story.. GOD HELP US THE PRIEST AND THE PILOT A priest dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him is a guy who s dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket, and jeans. Saint Peter addresses this cool guy, Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven? The guy replies, I m Jack, retired airline pilot from Houston. Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the pilot, Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom. The pilot goes into Heaven with his robe and staff. Next, it s the priest s turn. He stands erect and booms out, I am Father Bob, pastor of Saint Mary s for the last 43 years. Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the priest, Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom. Just a minute, says the good father. That man was a pilot and he gets a silken robe and golden staff and I get only cotton and wood. How can this be? Up here - we go by results, says Saint Peter. When you preached - people slept. 5 Burdekin Machinery Preservationists Open Day 11th November The Club received a request from the Burdekin Machinery Preservationists to join them in their annual Open Day at the Club s Brandon Precinct. Townsville was represented by some of our more modern cars who made the trip to Brandon for the day. Participating were Gary Parker 1934 Dodge, Ken McWha 1981 Peugeot 504, Patrick Gallagher 1987 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit. The club members based in the Burdekin were well represented too with Tom Callow 1910 Renault AX, Les Wassmuth 1929 Chevrolet AC, Ross Northwood 1927 Ford T, Gary Crowdey 1927 Ford T. Others, like Norm Morley and Frank Cerutti travelled down modern. The Burdekin Machinery Preservationists put on a good show featuring their rare Marshall ploughing engine, stationary diesel engines and stationary steam engines. The steam traction engine which resides at the precinct was also fired and took members of the public for short rides. Thank you to all who participated and supported the Machinery Preservationists. 6 Townsville Christmas Party 17 November The Townsville breakup was held on the 17th of November at Micky DD s in Carlyle Gardens. This was a good venue with very good food, with many members attended even though some members had other commitments. I would like to thank Bill & Jean Honniball for organising the event this year. Male Member of the year went to Gorge Sellen and Female Member to Adrienne Cerutti. We had no cars restored this year so there was no restorer award, instead we had an award going to the vehicle that attended the most events for the year and it went to Gary Parker s 1934 Dodge Truck. 6

7 Burdekin Christmas party 25 November On the 25th of November the Burdekin members had their Christmas Party, with many members from Townsville attending this year. The party was held at the Windmill Cafe in Clare. The day was quite a hot day so many had chosen to travel in their modern including myself. It was a good relaxing time catching up with the members from the Burdekin and of course talking about the weather, cars and whatever else that came up in conversation. 7

9 Willows Santa Parade 22nd November On Thursday the 22nd of November some of our members joined the Willows Santa Parade that started in Hinchinbrook Drive then into Thuringowa Drive down to the Willows Shopping Centre. This was the first time in many years as it normally falls on a meeting night. Attending were George & Sandra Sellen, Bill & Bev Bunt, Derek & Kristine Walker, Gary Parker, Ron & Heather Anderson and visiting was Mal Lorimer. 9
