We at Isle of Wight Experience take all the hard work of organising a visit for you by arranging everything from transport and hotels to your chosen itinerary. By living on the Island we are able to have very close contact with all venues, making sure that they meet with the schools individual requirements. We are also able to represent you at all times whilst you are on the Island. 3 Specialists in Educational Visits & Team Building SANDOWN BAY Please contact the team for your Bespoke Tariff These Tariffs are based on your individual needs, with one teacher free with every ten paying children. This is our standard tariff and this is based up to a 49 seater single deck coach. Please ring for a separate quotation for larger groups over 49 which require a large capacity coach and for smaller groups under 30 children (an adjustment in tariff can be made). Monday and Thursday evenings, no coach hire will be available due to restricted drivers hours. BEFORE YOUR VISIT Once you have decided that you would like Isle of Wight Experience to arrange your visit, we will be pleased to discuss any national curriculum needs and special requirements you wish your school to include within your chosen itinerary. We shall be happy to supply teachers with comprehensive background information notes for chosen venues, along with activity sheets for the children where necessary. We take selective care over the choice of coach companies. We use reliable operators who offer modern comfortable coaches, who all conform with current seat belt laws and have a good working record with school children. The hotels on the Island that we use have been personally vetted for a good standard of accommodation for children and staff, giving a home from home welcome and their best intentions at all times. INSURANCE Isle of Wight Experience is covered by a professional indemnity and a public liability insurance of 10 million. Booking early is essential due to the popularity of the Island. This also saves any disappointment on arranging itineraries. English Heritage bookings have to be made by the schools ringing direct on Booking early is vital. We advise where possible for the group leader to make a pre-visit, especially if the school is a new visitor to the Island. This is encouraged by offering free accommodation for one night for two persons. Please note travel costs are not included, but we will be pleased to arrange this for you. The advantage of having so many historical and scientific sites on the Isle of Wight makes it quite unique because travelling times to venues are kept to the minimum, so that the maximum amount of time can be spent at your chosen venues. ALUM BAY AND NEEDLES A site with spectacular views of cliffs of different coloured sands and geological features, where you can also view the Needles and the Needles lighthouse. ALUM BAY NEEDLES BOAT CRUISE Throughout the season boats leave Alum Bay on a short 20 minute cruise for close up views of the Needles Lighthouse and Rocks. On leaving the beach the boats pass under the 400 foot cliffs to view the sea-level Victorian Fort. From there & moving onto the seaward end of the bay you cruise past the remains of the original needles rock and then onto the towering Needles Lighthouse. The return trip takes you further off shore to enable passengers to appreciate the breathtaking views of the cliffs and coloured sands. With commentary. Subject to weather. ALUM BAY GLASS BLOWING Visitors may view the glassmakers in their working areas. They provide a talk whilst showing hand-crafted glass. March to October. SCI, A, DT. 11 Specialists in Educational Visits & Team Building AMAZON WORLD AMAZON WORLD Step in to Amazon World and leave the Isle of Wight behind you, as you walk your students through the various habitats encapsulating many species of animal and many types of plants. With the sounds of the water and the free flying birds, Amazon World tells the ecological story of how the South American rainforest and its inhabitants are being subjected to devastation through logging and plantations, and how if it were to continue, the transition until the forest would be reborn and what we would lose. Amazon World houses the largest collection of exotic animals on the Isle of Wight, and with its education room it is an all round learning centre with stimulating environments. Lunch Area. BLACKGANG CHINE Set on the cliffs edge overlooking the stunning South coast, Blackgang Chine is filled with an eclectic mix of attractions and magical theme worlds which have enthralled children of all ages for many generations. With fun rides which include Water Force Slide and Cliff Hanger roller coaster, and lots of unusual themed attractions, the park challenges the imagination. There s a new attraction (2014), Restricted Area 5 filled with life-size moving dinosaurs, a full size Cowboy Town now bigger and better, Pirate Cove and fantasy creatures plus exhibitions about coastal erosion and shipwrecks. Blackgang is a good mix of education and pure fun. BRADING ROMAN VILLA A fine example of mosaic floors dating back to the 3rd century AD, and excavated objects showing life in Roman Times within this area. Guided tours available. CALBOURNE WATER MILL AND RURAL MUSEUM This working mill dating back to the early 16th century is still in perfect order today. 13 CARISBROOKE CASTLE AND MUSEUM A splendid Norman Castle which once was the Prison of King Charles I. It has had later additions, both Medieval and Elizabethan. The Governor s apartment house now houses the museum of History. Several times a day the resident Carisbrooke Donkeys work the wellhouse to draw water. They encourage groups to take part in daily activities which include milking, egg collecting, lamb feeding and small animal handling. The farm offers a great balance of fun and education. KEY TOPICS: 15, AH, EVS, SCI, PA, W. DONKEY SANCTUARY The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary is a great place for a Primary School visit. The sanctuary has over 120 animals of which over 90 are donkeys. The sanctuary is made up of small paddocks which each contains a group of donkeys-those groups might be Old Age Pensioners, Young Donkeys, Adoption Donkeys or Miniature Donkeys. The paddocks are surrounded by walkways so the children can stroke and pet the donkeys all day!! The sanctuary offers a range of educational packages which fall under the banner of Classroom in a stable. 8, 11,12,13, 15,17,M, EVS, SCI, W. FORT VICTORIA WOODLAND & BEACH WALKS The Ranger led tour starts with a 30 minute classroom session, looking at sealife, geology and plant handeling. FORT VICTORIA AQUARIUM Set in the remains of a Victorian fort the Aquarium contains a fascinating selection of local sea life - fish and invertebrate, most pupils are amazed at what lives off our own coasts - graceful rays, poisonous Weevers, Cuttlefish, Starfish fierce Spider Crabs and many more. A separate section contains many of the amazing inhabitants of tropical reefs - find out why you should not stroke a Lionfish or eat Fugu. Guided tours. FORT VICTORIA SUNKEN SECRETS This hands-on centre offers children the opportunity to learn how archaeologists work underwater, the tools they use and what they discover. HAVEN FALCONRY Haven Falconry deliver quality, interactive educational sessions to children and students at an appropriate level for the audience age. Our displays are presented indoors (preferably a hall) and we bring along and fly a varied selection of birds of prey. ISLAND PLANETARIUM The island Planetarium at Fort Victoria has a domed planetarium theatre, space exhibition, working models and display which compliments the science requirements of the national Curriculum. ISLE OF WIGHT YOUTH CIRCUS During the session, we go through three different activities after initially doing a brief warm up which involves just a few stretching exercises. We teach the pupils basic knowledge of plate spinning, hand held stilt walking and tightrope walking (1/2 metre off the ground) and finishing with Double Dutch Skipping. Everyone gets a turn on each activity alternating every 20mins approximately. Set in 1½ acres of landscaped gardens this is a perfect location for school parties to view the island in miniature. 17 MARTIN SIMPSON - FOSSIL MAN Martin will give a small but exciting talk about dinosaurs and fossils which are frequently found on the Isle of Wight. NEEDLES OLD BATTERY This spectacularly sited cliff-top fort, in the care of the National Trust, has the best views of the Needles Rocks and a fascinating military history. Built in 1862 following the threat of a French invasion, the Old Battery contains exhibitions about its involvement in both World Wars evocatively brought to life by cartoons. The parade ground has two original gun barrels and a tunnel leads to a searchlight emplacement perched above the Needles. The New Battery houses an exhibition about the secret rocket tests carried out there as part of Britain s race for space. Pre-booked school visits are welcome at both sites. NEWPORT ROMAN VILLA An excellent example of a winged-corridor house from approximately 1800 years ago. One of the best preserved domestic bath suites in the country. An exhibition of objects discovered at Newport Villa and at other Island illustrating the way of life of the well-to-do farm owner. 26 Isle of Wight Experience THE NEEDLES Booking Conditions 1. Bookings will be acknowledged by us in writing and will mark as a provisional booking until your first deposit cheque is received. 2. The party leader and all other accompanying adults are at all times responsible for the supervision and behaviour of pupils in the party and must take responsible steps to prevent damage or disturbance. We accept no responsibility whatsoever for any loss or damage to property. Hoteliers, coach operators, venues, etc will require payment by the school involved for any damage caused to property, furniture, vehicles etc. 3. We reserve the right to alter itineraries when conditions arise that are beyond our control. 4. Isle of Wight Experience will forward all relevant risk-assessments for places of interest. Isle of Wight Experience is not qualified to carry out risk assessments on site for venues and hotels therefore risk assessments have been carried out by the venue operator s staff, or by qualified agents appointed by the venues. Risk assessments can be sent to the school via on a PDF document upon request. Isle of Wight Experience recommends that the group leader makes a pre-visit to the Island to do their own risk assessments; this is encouraged by offering free accommodation for one night for two persons. Please note travel costs are not included but we will be pleased to arrange this for you. 5. Whilst we have taken great care in the preparation of all the information contained in our brochure/ website and have ensured that it is as accurate as possible at the time of printing/publishing, we accept no responsibility for alterations regarding venues, transports and accommodation facilities in circumstances beyond our control. 6. No booking can be accepted without a completed and signed booking form (available from our website or office), accompanied by the appropriate deposit. By signing the form, the party leader agrees to the conditions outlined here on behalf of all members of the party or their parent/legal guardian and confirms s/he is authorised to act on their behalf. A contract exists between you and ourselves once we have confirmed the booking in writing. 7. Free Places. One adult per 10 pupils travels free. 8. Surcharges. The price of your travel arrangements is subject to surcharges on the following items: Government action, such as increase in VAT or any other Government imposed increases. 9. If you are altering a booking. If you need to change details of your booking, notify us in writing as soon as possible and we will do our best to help. 10. If we are altering the booking. Should we be forced to change your tour we will inform you as quickly as possible and obtain an agreement. 11. Complaints. Any matter which might have cause for a complaint must be reported as soon as possible to one of our representatives, and/or to the supplier concerned in writing. Should the complaint not be resolved immediately and you wish to pursue the matter, you must write to Isle of Wight Experience within 28 days of your return. 12. If cancellation of the whole booking is necessary, you must inform us immediately in writing. Bookings are maintained until the date that written confirmation is received by us. All cancellations will be acknowledged. Cancellations are subject to the following charges: If received more than 56 days prior to departure - Loss of deposits paid. If received between 22 and 56 days - Loss of 60% of total price. If received between 01 and 21 days - Loss of 100% of total price.
