5 Excursions Excursions EXCURSIONS PORTSMOUTH Portsmouth is a dynamic and vibrant waterfront city packed with great reasons to visit. There is the proud naval and maritime heritage of the Historic Dockyard, The Emirates Spinnaker Tower, where you can experience the thrill of crossing an amazing glass Sky Walk, see what you can spot with their fascinating Ship Finder, museums and galleries, unique harbourside shopping destinations, great places to eat and miles of beautiful waterfront. London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic Big Ben clock tower and Westminster Abbey. Across the River Thames, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city. CORFE CASTLE CITY OF BATH One of Britain's most iconic and evocative survivors of the English Civil War, partially demolished in 1646 by the Parliamentarians. All ages are captivated by these romantic castle ruins with breathtaking views across Purbeck. Discover 1,000 years of castle history, with fallen walls and secret places, there are tales of treachery and treason around every corner.spot the 'murder holes' and count the arrow loops. 7 Programme Choices Programme Choices ENGLISH EXPLORERS: EXAMPLE PROGRAMME JUNIOR DISCOVERY CLASSES: EXAMPLE PROGRAMME For closed groups ages 10 years + An introduction to the English way of life, students enjoy a typical English seaside holiday alongside their studies. This popular programme allows students to explore and learn about cultural differences in a fun and interesting way. Our lessons investigate themes such as English food and pastimes, famous people and places, royals and castles and even Harry Potter! All are linked to visits and experiences the students will take part in during their stay and are designed to encourage students to use English freely and confidently. They are also areas with a rich heritage and fascinating history and have provided many famous authors and poets with inspiration for their greatest works. Our tutors are specialists in delivering environmental, geographical, biological and historical education to a wide range of groups of different ages and nationalities. Each morning begins with a lesson introducing the day ahead and providing students with the vocabulary they need. What better way for your students to learn than experiencing the subject matter up-close, in inspiring surroundings and all through English! Each evening before dinner students consolidate their learning and observations with a follow-up lesson. Our Junior Discovery Programme for ages 10 years + (and for all levels including beginners) is available at both our centres. This programme links geography, habitats and history with a week of exploring the outdoors and interacting with the local environment. Prior to each visit we fully liaise with you to ensure curriculum needs are matched and the programme is tailored to suit your learning aims. Note. Please talk to your chosen venue for details of nearby coach parking. For example, in Swanage, there is a public car park a 5 minute walk from the centre for which a permit can be bought if the coach is parking overnight. In Ventnor the coach park is 10 minutes away from East Dene. We have limited onsite parking for cars; we ask all groups to inform us of parking needs before the visit to ensure we can provide this. TRAVEL BY FERRY The Isle of Wight is reached by Ferry. There are two major providers. Wightlink, operating from Fishbourne, Portsmouth Harbour and Lymington. Red Funnel and RedJet operate from Southampton. You can also reach us by Hovertravel from Southsea to Ryde. Our preferred travel provider is Red Funnel and we can book your coaches on our account at a discounted rate and this can be added to your invoice. Contact us to arrange a quote. TRAVEL BY TRAIN The nearest train station to Swanage is in Wareham, Dorset, which is roughly a 20 minute taxi or coach ride away. South West Trains provide good links to various other destinations all over England, to and from here. You can get to the Isle of Wight by train via Portsmouth Harbour and then onwards via Catamaran Ferry to Ryde Pier Head. Cross Island trains are available to Shanklin, which is roughly a 20 minute taxi or coach ride away from East Dene. 9 FAQ's Notes YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED PLANNING NOTES DO YOU HOLD PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE? Yes, with the Activities Industry Mutual with an indemnity of 10,000,000. ARE THE TUTORS AT ALLNATT OUTDOORS PROPERLY QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED? All our tutors go through Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks (DBS), Induction then In-House Training for several weeks before working with groups. The majority of our tutors have relevant degrees, many with a teaching background and all show a great passion for the outdoors and working with young people. For First Aid, Swimming Pool, and our range of Adventurous Activities our staff hold relevant National Governing Body qualifications (NGB s). WHERE CAN I FIND YOUR RISK ASSESSMENTS? All of our Adventure Activities and study locations have in-depth risk assessments, these are open for inspection during preliminary meetings. We can provide you with a Quality Assurance Pack, which outlines all the important and necessary information you may require. ARE YOUR CENTRES INSPECTED? Yes. We are inspected by the British Activity Providers Association. We have our Adventure Activity Licence and a Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) quality badge which guarantees the quality of our outdoor learning provision. We have also been awarded an Adventure Mark for our range of Adventure Activities. WHAT LEVEL OF SUPPORT CAN I EXPECT FROM ALLNATT STAFF? You can expect excellent support from all of our staff from initial enquiry through to the programme delivery and after-support. We are a small company so you will often be working with the same person all through your Allnatt experience, all employees are proud to work here and we are sure this will be your experience with us too. IS MY MONEY SAFE WITH ALLNATT? Your money is safe with us. Joseph Allnatt Centres Ltd has been in existence since It has a good credit rating at one of the leading credit rating agencies in the UK. We are happy to forward a credit report if required. DO YOU CATER FOR SPECIAL DIETS? Our Catering teams serve three tasty meals per day, with lots of choice and seasonal variations. We provide a carefully balanced nutritional menu created by our own Chefs, designed to meet the latest Government standards on school meals. We will ask before your visit if we need to cater for any individual dietary needs such as religious adherence, gluten, egg, dairy and wheat free meals as well as any other food allergies. WHO WILL BE PUTTING MY OUTDOOR LEARNING EXPERIENCE TOGETHER? At both Centres we have a Head of Teaching who will liaise closely with you during the build up to the visit; they will help you design and build your logistical programme to meet your learning objectives. They also oversee the quality and safety aspects too. During your visit you will have a Group Co-Ordinator who is with you from your arrival through to departure and can also be contacted for follow up work. CAN YOU HELP ME LAUNCH THE TRIP? Yes. We have a range of support materials available to help publicise your trip and will always visit our partner schools to support Parents Talks if we can to help answer parents questions and concerns face to face. Putting a face to the name is part of our approach. CAN I SEE THE CENTRE BEFORE I DECIDE TO BOOK? We encourage all new group leaders to come and visit the centres and the local area before booking, we are able to offer overnight accommodation to make the journey as viable as possible. You are able to book preliminary visits on most Mondays and Fridays. DO YOU ARRANGE TRANSPORT FOR ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE JOURNEYS? We are more than happy to recommend a local provider to help assist you plan your journey to and from our centres. DO YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORT WHILST / DURING THE PROGRAMME TO LOCAL DESTINATIONS? On a fully taught programme, provided by our tutors and whilst on activities, all transport is provided for you during your visit. DO WE HAVE TO PROVIDE OUR OWN BEDDING? We will provide all groups with comfortable bedding. Each bunk bed has a duvet and pillow too. We kindly ask that individuals do not bring their own. WHAT ARE THE SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS? Both centres provide safe and secure accommodation in dormitory style rooms that sleep between 4 to 12 group members in bunk beds. Teachers will have single or twin bedded rooms, which are located amongst the dormitory rooms. Our Swanage Centre consists of 5 separate buildings, each with keypad entry, which means groups have their own spaces. At East Dene, the set up is similar and also very spacious, however groups will often share the same living areas, due to this being a large Victorian Manor House and converted Coach House. WHAT S YOUR POLICY ON THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA? Our Centres have free WiFi access for teachers and students. Rest assured, we have strict parental control in place and appropriate access levels set for students.
