2 Introduction This brochure provides information about the gites at La Borie, a 17th century property on the border between the Dordogne and Lot regions of France. Our accommodation consists of a large converted barn housing up to 14 guests in total. 3 The Accommodation The gites at La Borie can accommodate up to 14 guests within two attached properties, making our accommodation perfect for large groups or families. Both gites have fully-equipped kitchens, large living spaces and outdoor covered seating areas. Guests have exclusive use of a large swimming pool during their stay, which is heated throughout the season. La Borie has plenty of outdoor space, which guests are free to use during their visit. There is a private grassed area with table tennis next to the gites; a large orchard and a field are also available for guests use. Both gites have covered, fully-lit outdoor dining areas. The Location Set within the grounds of a 17th century farm, the gites at La Borie sit on high ground above the village of Frayssinet-le-Gélat, on the border between the Lot and Dordogne regions of South-West France, one of the country s most attractive rural areas. The region benefits from excellent weather throughout the spring and summer months. Frayssinet-le-Gélat is set amongst forested hills at one end of the Thèze valley, and is typical of the region s small medieval settlements. Dating back to the 12th century, the village is contemporary with many of the area s oldest castles and towns. All within walking distance of the gites, Frayssinet-le-Gélat has an excellent boulangerie/pâtisserie, a restaurant and a café. The Swimming Pool Guests at La Borie have exclusive access to the swimming pool for the duration of their stay. The pool measures a large 11m x 5m, with plenty of surrounding space for relaxing. The swimming pool is heated throughout the year, and lighting within and around the pool area is available for late-evening swimming.

5 Outdoor Space Guests staying at La Borie have use of several outdoor spaces, including a large field and an orchard overlooked by the old farm s pigeonnier. There is also a private grassed area next to the gites with table tennis. Outside the property, there are excellent local hiking and cycling paths that can be accessed from the gites, and one of France s long-distance Grande Randonnée footpaths passes very close to the property. La Borie is also situated next to one of the region s best horse riding schools, offering high quality tuition and excursions into the local forests.

7 The Dordogne Valley The Dordogne River gently winds its way through South-West France, where many of the country s most attractive villages and castles line its banks. With activities including kayaking, swimming, boat touring, cycling, walking and hot-air ballooning, the Dordogne Valley is one of France s best locations for outdoor pursuits, set amongst some of Europe s most attractive and historic scenery. The region also has many vineyards and small farms, producing some of Europe s best quality food and drink. Sights and Activities The Dordogne and Lot departments are among the most scenic and historical places in France, with hundreds of sights to visit and many activities to do throughout the region. Castles and Medieval Villages The Dordogne and Lot regions have many of France s most impressive historical buildings, including some of its finest castles, such as Castelnaud and Château de Beynac. There are dozens of Europe s finest medieval villages within the region, such as Sarlat-la-Canéda and Domme, characterised by their mazes of streets, independent shops selling local produce, ancient town walls and buzzing market squares. Prehistoric Sites The Dordogne and Lot regions have some of the world s most archaeologically-important prehistoric sites, including hundreds of impressive cave paintings at Lascaux and at other locations throughout the beautiful Vézère Valley several of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Many sites have impressive recreations of prehistoric life alongside displays of artefacts. Outdoor Activities The area s rivers provide some of Europe s best canoeing & kayaking on gentle, safe rivers, along which boat tours are also popular. Safe roads through stunning scenery making the area s cycling routes among the finest in France; the region s gorges are excellent for climbing; well-marked footpath networks provide scenic hiking routes; and clear rivers & lakes offer some of the country s best swimming and fishing locations. Hot-air ballooning is also popular within the Dordogne and Lot valleys, offering a particularly special way to experience the region. Places and Activities for Children The area is also excellent for children and young people, with waterparks, zoos, aquariums and theme parks throughout the region. Many of the area s castles and prehistoric sites have child-friendly activities and displays. Sporting activities within the region are particularly family-friendly, with kayaking along the gentle Dordogne river and cycling along quiet roads being especially popular.

8 The Landscape La Borie is situated on the border between the Dordogne and Lot regions of South-West France. The area s landscape is among the most beautiful in Europe, characterised by rolling forested hills, deep river gorges dotted with dozens of historic villages, and many picturesque vineyards producing some of the world s best wines.
