We are excited to begin our 19th year of summer camp and can t wait to meet this year s campers! We would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our returning families and new faces to a summer that s sure to be filled with memories never to be forgotten. We hope to answer any questions and first day unknowns in this newsletter but, as always, welcome any questions you may have before the first day of camp! 2 Where To Meet Each Day? There are many activities (summer school, other camps, etc.) going on at some of our camp locations. To ensure your child s safety, please sign your child in with his/her counselor in the morning and sign your child out with his/her counselor in the afternoon. Extended care campers will sign in and out at the welcome booth. Belmont Olney Mill Road Olney, MD Located next to far right parking lot when facing the school. Look out for our tented welcome booth. Your er In Action This summer, KidsCo will have a team venturing out each day of camp to capture all the action at our camp locations! We will update Facebook daily with pictures and videos, so Like KidsCo on Facebook to see your camper in action this summer! 2

3 Drop Off & Pick Up Times For KidsCo Day hours: 9:00am - 3:30pm Drop off is between 8:45am - 9:00am Pick up is between 3:30pm - 3:45pm Please note: There is a late fee of $1 per minute charged for campers who are picked up after their scheduled camp day has ended. Extended Care Hours: 6:30am - 9:00am & 3:30pm - 6:30pm Extended care is a time to relax before and wind down after a busy day at camp. During extended care, campers will have an opportunity to use the gymnasium, our game room, and play outside. In the afternoon, KidsCo will provide a light snack. What Should I Bring To KidsCo Day? Each day please have your child bring: Backpack or bag labeled for belongings Bathing suit everyday Towel everyday Sunscreen (be sure to apply each day before camp) Lunch and drink labeled with your child s name (lunches will be stored in coolers; non-perishable items recommended) Medication If your child will take medication during camp hours, you and your child s pediatrician will need to fill out and return a Medication Order Form before we will be able to administer any medication. All medication will be safely locked away at camp and travel with campers on all trips. To receive a form, you can call our Main Office or print out a form from our web site, www. KidsCoOnline.com. Tuesday Field Trips ers attending our Day s enjoy the thrill and excitement of an exhilarating field trip every Tuesday. ers depart in the morning promptly at 9:00am for local summer hot spots and enjoy a full day exploring, swimming, splashing, sliding and much more! ers are decked out in KidsCo UV protective, rash guard style water shirts. Color-coded wristbands are worn by all kids for easy and quick identification. Staff members sport bright and visible KidsCo T-shirts and swimwear. Please note that on Week 6 (July 24 - July 28) our trip will be on Friday. Trip Shirts KidsCo will offer a UV protective, rash guard style swim shirt. These shirts provide heightened visibility on water trips as well as a higher level of sun protection for your camper. We have chosen a bright, fun color this summer marked boldly with our KidsCo logo for visibility. We require that all campers wear their current 2017 KidsCo trip shirt on all Tuesday trips. If your child forgets his/her shirt on field trip days, you will need to purchase another shirt for them to wear ($23). Shirts will be given to campers on the Tuesday of their first session. After Hours Emergency Line In the event of a matter needing urgent attention outside of our normal operating hours, KidsCo s Main Office has an emergency telephone line where parents may leave a message. A KidsCo team member will respond accordingly. Swimming (NEW:ALL DAY) Our camps will be heading to Rockville Municipal Swim Center (RMSC) every Thursday. The Rockville Swim Center has a large free-form recreational pool with a water slide and beach-style entrance, a tot pool with a fountain, and an interactive spray ground with slides, fountains, and a waterfall. Each Thursday, KidsCo Day s will travel to the pool at 9:30am. ers will arrive back to camp around or 3:30pm. You may send money with your child to buy drinks or snacks at the pool. Please be sure to apply sunscreen to your child each day before camp and send an extra supply with them to re-apply at the pool. On all pool trips, each child will wear a bright KidsCo labeled waterproof wristband. As an added safety measure, Eyes On Me wristbands will be given to those campers with limited swimming abilities. All New Water Day With our new inflatable water slides, we will bring unforgettable water adventures to camp like never before! In addition to our slides one day a week (Monday or Wednesday) campers will partake in a series of water activities that relate to each theme each week. 3

4 Overnight Out Due to its popularity, KidsCo is camping out again! We are spending the night at Little Bennett ground cooking out, making s mores, playing flashlight tag, and burning the midnight oil. This summer, the campout will be held on Friday, July 21st (Week 5) for all camp locations. *ers need to be enrolled for the scheduled week in order to join the camp out. We have come up with some fun, interactive projects that will ignite your child s imagination and show the basic cause and effect of mixing and creating! From creating rain clouds to candy floats to catapults; be on the lookout for the activities each week and ask your child to share what they have learned! Sport Of The Week KidsCo is excited to bring back our Sport Of The Week this year. Our Sports Specialist will be visiting each camp location once a week to introduce a sport, some basic drills, rules of the game, and end with a short game! ers are encouraged to participate, learn, and maybe even discover a new interest! 2017 Day Field Trip Locations: Beaver Dam Swimming Club Bowl America Cascade Lake Cockeysville, MD Featuring two pools (up to 5 deep), rope swing, fresh water quarry, volleyball, and basketball. Chesapeake Beach, MD 8 water slides, fountains, waterfalls, a lagoon, water volleyball, basketball court, game room, great food, and snow cones. Rockville, MD All you can eat pizza and pasta buffett. Laurel, MD Amazing indoor rock climbing on colorful, themed, climbing walls. Thurmont, MD cunningham.aspx Swimming, hiking, and paddle boats in a beautiful mountain lake. Manassas, VA Water park with a lazy river, concessions, slides, cannonball slide, a pool with an alligator crossing challenge, and lots of tubes and rafts. Baltimore, MD Filled with indoor and outdoor exhibits and home to over 1500 animals, including: birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. Gaithersburg, MD An indoor arena filled with inflatable slides, bounce houses, and gaming arenas. Lorton, VA A water park with several waterslides and interactive water obstacle acititives. *Please note this summer Tuesday will be our new trip day. 4

5 Drop Off & Pick Up Times Depending on the destination, drop off times will vary. We ask that all campers be at the site and ready to board the bus or KidsCo vehicle on time. Please refer to the list below to ensure proper drop off and pick up times. In addition, a digital postcard will be ed weekly containing detailed information for each trip. Each camper will need to be signed in and out with their On-The-Run counselor at their designated meeting area (campers enrolled in extended care will need to sign in and out at the welcome booth). Extended care is complimentary for all families while attending On-The-Run camps (please sign up for extended care with our Main Office if you plan to utilize this option). 6 Medication If your child will take medication during camp hours, you and your child s pediatrician will need to fill out and return a Medication Order Form before we will be able to administer any medication. For weeks 2 and 7, we will be venturing out to our usual exhilarating amusement parks or beach, staying late and then off to spend the night in a hotel. Not only does this reduce travel time, it also allows us extra time at the venues! In the morning, we will be treated to a delicious continental breakfast before heading off to our next venue. We are extremely excited to be offering overnight trips again this summer! If you would like more info please contact our Main Office. Trip Shirts and Wristbands Our Kids and Teens will sport a newly designed OnThe-Run T-shirt while traveling. We require that all campers wear their 2017 KidsCo trip shirt on all Wednesday trips and while on trips with a late return time (these days are noted on the weekly postcard). The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring Ropes Course & Zip Lines (TOR Only) Sandy Spring, MD There are 13 separate courses of varying levels of difficulty. Each course has zip lines, but primarily consist of bridges between tree platforms made of rope, cable, and wood configurations creating over 150 unique challenges. National Aquarium at Baltimore Baltimore, MD Amazing exhibits, live dolphin show, 4D Immersion Theater and concessions. Busch Gardens (TOR Only) Williamsburg, VA Thrilling rides, fabulous shows, concessions, and charming villages with a fun European flair. 9 Director- Arlin De La Rosa My name is Arlin Del La Rosa. I just finished my 7th year with KidsCo at Luxmanor Elementary School as the Director. I also just got married in May so don t get used to the last name because it will be changing soon! I am a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in History and Secondary education. I love playing sports, being active and being creative. I should also state that I LOVE our hometown teams. When it comes to the Capitals, Nationals, Redskins, and the Terps I just can t get enough! I am very excited to get to know you all and make lasting summer camp memories! Director- Anthony Knight Hello, my name is Anthony Knight and I am thrilled your Director at Emory Grove. It s hard to believe this will be my 11th summer with KidsCo. After 7 years away from the Gaithersburg camp location, I m thrilled to be returning to where I first fell in love with summer camp. My hobbies include working out, cooking and traveling. I allow my experiences to help inspire me to create an amazing camp enviroment. I believe that camp to be a place where every child can express and develop his or her personality thorugh activities that allow them to just be themselves! Each day will be a continuous adventure that I know each camper will remember for a life time! Belmont Emory Grove Assistant Director- Jill Villaviza Hi, my name is Jill. This is going to be my second year enjoying the summer sun with KidsCo. I love the arts; visual arts, drama, and music but prepare to cover your ears when I sing. I also like to stay active but I don t mind cozying up to a movie every now and then. I can t wait to be at Belmont this sumer and I m excited to see whay the next two months have in store. Assistant Director- Kimberly Pena-Molina Hey Emory Grove Families! This will be my third year here at KidsCo Summer. I m so excited to meet all the campers and be reunited with the many familiar faces! During the school year I am the before and after care Director for KidsCo Jr. here at Emory Grove. I received my Associates degree in Early Childhood Education! Starting in the fall I will be transferring to Towson University at USG to pursue my bachelors degree. In my free time, I love to shop and spend time with my friends and family. I am super ecstatic and look forward to another amazing Summer! 9

10 Director- Jake Sherman Hello! My name is Jake Sherman, and I am excited to be the Director at KidsCo Little Bennett for the Summer! I started at KidsCo as a camper, spending many of my Elementary and Middle School summer weeks at Day myself. This summer marks my 10th consecutive year as a KidsCo staff member! When I am not at KidsCo, I am studying to become a physical education teacher at Towson University. On the weekends, I am a DJ for private parties and corporate events. My team and I are looking forward to another incredible Summer. GET READY! Director-Tiffany Harcum Hello! I m Tiffany Harcum and I am so excited to be back for my second summer with Montgomery Knolls family. I enjoy spending time traveling, shopping, and hanging out with my family and friends. This Summer I look forward to continue to build lasting memories with the staff and campers at Montgomery Knolls. Summer 2017 is going to be amazing! Little Bennett Montgomery Knolls Assistant Director- Shelby Roles Hey Little Bennett Families! I am Shelby Roles and this will be my 4th year at KidsCo Summer! I am so excited to be your Assistant Director this Summer! During the School year I am the Director of KidsCo at Rockwell Elementary School. In my free time I love being outside as much as I can and I also like working out and being active. I am ready for an exciting and fun filled summer with all our campers Assistant Director- Jennifer Guevara Hello Everyone! My name is Jennifer and I will be your Assistant Director at Montgomery Knolls this summer. This is my third summer at KidsCo. During the school year I m the Assistant Director at Pine Crest ES. I m currently attending Montgomery College and I am majoring in Radiology. I enjoy hiking, spending time with family, friends, playing lacrosse and being active. I m excited to be part of the Montgomery Knolls team, I look forward to seeing old and new faces this summer! 10

11 Director- Cindy Fuentes Hello Wyngate families, my name is Cindy Fuentes and I will be you 2017 Summer Director! This will be my 11th summer with KidsCo and I m very excited to meet all the Wyngate families!! During the school year I m the Director at Daily and Clovery Elementary School. I am a graduate from the University of Maryland where I earned my degree in Family Science and Special Education. I enjoy providing a positive and fun environment where kids can learn and grow! When I m not at work I enjoy spending time with my family and my beautiful daughter Dylan! Let s make this summer a summer to remember! See you soon! Aftercare Director-Marquise Lee Hello Wyngate families, my name is Marquise and I am excited to be back for my 3rd summer camp! I love helping kids learn and grow in a positive and fun environment. During the school year I am the Assistant Director at Wyngate so I m excited to reconnect with the kids and families as well as meet new ones! Let s make this the best summer yet! Wyngate Assistant Director- Marc McGlone Hello everyone! My name is Marc McGlone, this will be my 7th year at KidsCo Summer s and my 3rd year as Assistant Director. During the school year I am the Director of our before and after care program at Seven Locks Elementary School. A couple of hobbies I enjoy include playing all sports, collecting shoes, and photography. I look forward to an awesome summer full of fun and endless adventures! 11

12 Director- Keanna Cartnail Hello KOR families! My name is Keanna Cartnail and I am beyond excited to return to KOR as your new Director! This is my 8th summer working with KidsCo and I have no doubt this one will be just as exciting as the others! In my spare I like to; sing, dance listen to music and overall have a good time! I can t wait to add more exciting memories to my KidsCo camp collection! Let s make it a good summer! Kids On The Run Assistant Director- Jose Martinez Hello, Kids On-The- Run families! My name is Jose and I am very happy to return to Kids On The Run and be your Assistant Director this year! This is my 5th year at Summer with KidsCo and very excited to see returning and new faces. I love watching and playing sports and I love traveling! I m looking forward to creating memories this summer with kids, staff and families. Let s have a great summer! Director- Jack Jenkins Hi my name is Jack Jenkins! I have been with KidsCo for 11 years and this will be 2nd summer with Teens On The Run. I love watching & playing sports, listening to music & having fun! I know this summer will be filled with great times and great people. Teens On The Run Assistant Director- Tony McBride Hi my name is Tony McBride! I have been with KidsCo for 7 years and this will be my second summer with Teens On -The-Run. I love watching football, learning new things and riding roller coasters. I look forward to seeing all of the returning campers as well as the new faces we will meet! 12

13 When will my child receive his/her 2017 KidsCo trip shirt? Your child will receive his/her 2017 KidsCo trip shirt on the morning of their first Tuesday at 2017 Summer. Does my child need money on trip days? No extra spending money is required on trip days. While most of our Tuesday trip destinations do have snack bars or concessions on site, it is at your own discretion to send your camper with money. What is the staff to child ratio? Our staff to child ratio is one to ten or better. For the Pre-K and Kindergarten group, we maintain better than a one to ten staff to child ratio, and on water days assign extra staff members to assist with this group. What time will my child return to camp on Tuesday trip days? (Day Trips) We will return to camp by 3:30pm after Tuesday field trips. Does my child need to bring a swimsuit and towel to camp all week long? Yes! While Tuesdays and Thursdays are our off site days at the pool and water parks, KidsCo provides water activities on-site such as super soakers and a slip and slide other days of the week. Packing a swim suit and towel every day ensures that your child can participate in all of KidsCo s awesome water activities. What happens if I forget or misplace my child s 2017 KidsCo trip shirt on Tuesday? Our 2017 KidsCo trip shirts are instrumental in providing security while away from camp by making our campers easily identifiable. If you forget or misplace your child s 2017 KidsCo trip shirt, you can purchase another one at a cost of $23. When and where does my child eat lunch while at camp? Weather permitting, we eat outside in the shade every day. Lunch times vary depending on the group s scheduled activities for the day. On Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, lunch for all campers will be around 11am. On field trip days, lunch could be as early as 10am. We encourage you to pack a light snack for your camper on these days and we will be happy to set aside an early afternoon snack time for the early lunch groups. Do you have a lost and found at camp? Yes. Please ask your Director to point you in the right direction if your camper has misplaced something. Labeling your campers items will help reduce the risk of lost items. What do I do if I am running late to drop off my On-The-Run camper in the morning? If you are running late in the morning, please call your On-The-Run camp Director to give them a heads-up. Do I need to send lunch money with my On-The-Run camper each day? You definitely do not. ers are welcome to bring their own lunch from home each day. In addition, KidsCo will provide lunch for the entire camp on several days over the summer. Please refer to your camp schedule for a list of days when lunch is provided. Should I send my camper with extra spending money? It is your discretion whether or not to send extra spending money with your child. Most destinations offer concessions or souvenirs that campers will have an opportunity to purchase. 13
