1 City of Sarnia Summer Events Guide 2018 Presented by the City of Sarnia Parks and Recreation Department Sarnia Summer Events Program To recognize the breathtaking views of Lake Huron, St. Clair River and Sarnia Bay alongside the beautiful Centennial Park, in 1989, the City of Sarnia Parks and Recreation Department established the Waterfront Program. This program offered a variety of free community festivals stationed along the waterfront. Fifteen years later as these events grew in size and participation, the Parks and Recreation Department began introducing new locations for these events, with a vision to highlight more of Sarnia s beautiful parks and green spaces, in addition to the waterfront. Today, the program is now known as the Sarnia Summer Events Program, and features: the Summer Music Series, hosted at four different locations, Kids Funfest, Hobbyfest, the Children s Art Workshop, and an Outdoor Movie Night will be an exciting season filled with programs and activities geared to enrich the lives of our children, families, and older adults within our community. In addition to the Summer Events Program, the Parks & Recreation Dept. is involved in organizing and promoting many other festivals and events along the waterfront, in our parks, and throughout the city. Kids Funfest Date: Saturday, June 9, 2018 Location: Clearwater Arena Time: 9:00am-2:00pm Cost: Free admission Held on the second Saturday in June since 1996, the Recreation Coordinator along with a dedicated group of volunteers from the community - fondly known as the Kids Funfest Committee - along with many others, organize this fun family-friendly event. Our goal is always with a focus to enhance children s lives by providing them and their parents with the resources to find and take part in all of the child and family-oriented services, clubs, and organizations in our community. Each year, participants can expect a new addition to the wide array of community groups. Math games, obstacle courses, story time, and much more, all community groups offer unique interactive activities for participants to engage in, while learning more about what they have to offer. Kids Funfest is the spot to be!

2 Hobbyfest Date: Saturday, August 25, 2018 Location: Germain Park and the Strangway Centre Time: 10:00am-3:00pm Cost: Free admission Learn. Explore. Create. Whether you are looking to pick up a new hobby, reignite an old one, or are interested in learning more about someone else s passion, this one-day event is where you will find it. Hobbyfest is a platform for individuals, local clubs, and organizations to increase their visibility in the community, to show off and share their achievements, as well as recruit new members. Hobbyfest is intended to be a fun, relaxing, educational event that allows for participation in interactive demonstrations and displays. Children s Art Workshop Date: Wednesday, August 1, 2018 Location: Canatara Park Time: 9:30am-12:00pm and 1:30pm-3:30pm Cost: $10.00 per child The Children s Art Workshop, held in cooperation with the Sarnia Artists Workshop, promotes healthy play and learning experiences for young children. Organized by the Parks & Recreation Department and located in Canatara Park, children aged 5-8 enjoy a special themed day, working with paint, clay and other art materials to make a variety of different crafts alongside the artists from the Sarnia Artists Workshop. Tobacco-Free Outdoor Movie Night Date: Friday, July 20, 2019 Location: Clearwater Park Time: 6:30pm activities, movie at dusk Cost: Free admission To educate community members about tobacco-use, the City of Sarnia in partnership with Lambton Public Health Youth CHAT host an annual tobacco-free outdoor movie night. The event comprises interactive games and prizes, followed by a children s movie at dusk.

3 Summer Entertainment Series For more than twenty-five years, the City of Sarnia has put on a variety of eclectic concerts that originated with our Waterfront Concert and Entertainment Series at Centennial Park, and later moved and expanded to Canatara Park. As the years have gone by, local interest has grown, and the concert series now includes two additional locations: Kenwick on the Lake in Bright s Grove and the Germain Park Garden. Our newest mini-series, Get Out of the Garage, features up and coming youth bands and musicians. Today, this array of concerts is known as the Summer Music Series, featuring On the Waterfront, Kenwick on the Lake, Music in the Garden, and Get out of the Garage - with a new Battle of the Bands events.
