2 Dear Potential Sponsors, We are excited to extend an invitation to you to be a part of the 9th Annual Ocean City Jazz Festival. This two-day festival is a celebration of jazz and local African American history. It is a fun time on the beach, and a way to increase awareness of the historic Ocean City community which was founded in Ocean City is a designated Onslow Country Tourism historical site and is the first African American coastal community in the state. The festival is an example of inclusion and tolerance, and a way to raise funds to help preserve historical sites in this unique community. When you partner with the festival, 100% of your sponsorship goes to support the vision of the Ocean City Jazz Festival, to include Preservation of the historic Ocean City Community, Promotion of the history of Ocean City community and it significance to the state Foster music education by underwriting jazz workshops, and mentoring programs with master musicians for local students Underwriting of festival costs including performances by local and national musicians To achieve our goal the Ocean City Jazz festival, as a charitable cause will accept donations, welcome volunteers and raise funds from individuals, businesses, and organizations, in order to support our mission. There will be silent auctions, vendors, the gold standard in jazz musicians, and upscale amenities in a beautiful beach setting. We are centrally located on Topsail Island, and have a highly visible street presence, and strong traffic count. 4 Our Story The Ocean City Community founded in 1949, was the only place African Americans could purchase coastal property in North Carolina, 15 years before the Civil Right Act. In 2009, to celebrate its 60th anniversary, a Fayetteville, NC jazz saxophonist and his accompanists were invited to provide entertainment on the porch of the Community Center. It was enjoyed by all in attendance, bringing in surrounding visitors to Topsail Island, NC and thus, the annual Ocean City Jazz Festival was launched as a vehicle to promote the history of the Ocean City Community. Ocean City has been designated as a historical site on the Jacksonville-Onslow County African American Trail and provides a wonderful 2-day venue for jazz lovers of all ages. The Festival has grown annually in attendance and features nationally recognized jazz artists making it a perfect venue and destination for the summer.
