5 Minister of Health, Andreas Xanthos The mental health is a key priority area for the Ministry of Health as it is evident in the planning for the completion of the psychiatric reform and the implementation of programs that concern the promotion of community care, the improvement in the quality of services and the administrative 4 rearrangement of mental health structures. It is also evidenced by the establishment of new public mental health structures, the strengthening of existing ones with staff and mostly with the development of specialized services for groups of people such as people with intellectual and developmental disorders, dementia / Alzheimer s disease etc. In this direction, research on intellectual and developmental disorders is crucial for the development of therapeutic protocols and action plans of psychosocial support that inform the early diagnosis and intervention processes and the overall support for the people, as well as for improving the organization and function of Mental Health Units (such as Day centers and residential settings) that already exist or will be developed. More specifically, the planning of Ministry of Health includes the development of new specialized structures for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in each administrative region, aiming for effective care within a given geographical area. The ultimate aim for the Ministry of Health is to create a comprehensive network of community-based mental health services and rehabilitation services throughout Greece. 6 Mayor of Athens, Georgios Kaminis Dear Friends, It is an honor to welcome you in Athens for the 5th IASSIDD Europe Congress dedicated to Diversity & Belonging, celebrating difference. The City of Athens celebrates difference on a daily basis. Human Rights and Equality are our guiding principles and we are all committed to protect and ensure them in all of our public activities. In the past four years we managed to secure and promote a public education open and accessible to all: children with intellectual and developmental disabilities have access to all levels of education, from kindergarten to lyceum. 5 With the city s initiative, the first Special Technical Gymnasium & Lyceum was created in 2017, giving the opportunity to its students to build special technical skills and the capacity to assert their future. Every summer, more than 300 youngsters with disabilities and their families are hosted, cared for and entertained at our children s summer camps in Agios Andreas for more than 15 days. We embrace private initiatives who employ disabled personnel and we provide them space to run their business. Furthermore, we run a promotional campaign every March to build social awareness and acceptability. More than one hundred and eighty years ago, our University lit 6 the beacon of academia in Greece as the oldest higher education institution of our country and the first University in the Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean area. Nowadays one of our most important tasks is to train specialists to work in organizations and institutions operating in economy, business, healthcare, the social sphere, etc. That s why we are very proud to host the 5th IASSIDD 2018 Europe Regional congress. The International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) as the first and only world-wide group dedicated to this purpose promotes the development of new knowledge, research and other scholarly activities, as well as the application of knowledge to improve the lives of people with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities, their families and those who support them. One of IASSIDD major activities is organizing world and regional conferencesis also organizing world and regional conferences. The theme of the 2018 conference in Athens is Diversity and Belonging: Celebrating Difference and it is jointly organized by IASSIDD, the Association of Parents, Guardians and Friends of People with Autism, Larissa, and the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. It is a great honor for me, as the Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens to cordially welcome all the distinguished scholars and speakers on the occasion of the 5th IASSIDD 2018 Europe Regional congress in Athens. It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the Fifth European Congress of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Our Congress chairperson Dr. Alice Schippers, IASSIDD Vice President for Europe, and her Local Organizing Committee have put together a very exciting multidisciplinary program for us all to enjoy 7 and learn from. And when it is time for a break, we have the remarkable city of Athens and its millennia of history to inspire us. As you view the over 100 posters, participate in paper sessions, symposia, workshops and roundtables and as you listen to our Keynote Speakers, please reflect on the great importance of advancing science in this difficult time in which we live and work. Scientists in all fields including ours have never been so prolific. But we face a growing number of threats to the funding, conduct and interpretation of scientific findings. At the same time, there are increasing attempts in some governments to undermine the use of scientific results to drive public policies. And most important, there is a significant backsliding in some sectors of the moral and ethical underpinnings of inclusive services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I hope we can leave this meeting with the resolve to take these threats seriously, to fight for the principles of the scientific method and of the concept of science-driven policymaking, and to join together to protect and advance human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. We have tried our best to accommodate this theme in several ways: A welcoming place The conference zooms in on Diversity & belonging and offers space where everyone is valued, and where originality and talents are seen and appreciated. With a support bar we will organise support for everyone that wishes or requires this. There are guidance assistants and resting places available. People who don t speak English, can count on our translators and whisper interpreters. There are sessions in easy language and creative workshops inspiring people to learn by other means than (only) verbal language. 14 Guidelines for Presenters and Moderators/Chair It is highly recommended that presenters transfer their presentations to congress laptop located in each presentation room between 08:00 and 09:00 if you are presenting in a morning session (all the sessions before lunch break) and during lunch break if you are presenting in a noon session (all the sessions after the lunch break). The latest you can transfer their presentation is 15 minutes before the session you present in begins. It is each presenter s responsibility to know the time and room they are presenting in and ensure their presentation is loaded in the correct presentation room. The operating system on all computers at the congress is Windows 10. All computers will run Office 365. All presentations should be in PowerPoint or some other presentation tool compatible with this operating system. If you are using a Mac to create your presentation, use Powerpoint version 2016 or later. Please have your presentation on USB stick. There is an internet connection available in every conference room. 13 There will be a volunteer in each presentation room, so they will assist you if you have any difficulties. We have scheduled 75 minutes for each symposium, roundtable, demonstration or workshop. With a maximum of 4 presentations in each session round, we provide ample time for discussion. So, please prepare your presentation in a concise way for a maximum of 15 minutes, to allow some minutes for discussion. If you are presenting in a planned symposium, roundtable, demonstration or workshop you can of course decide with your co-presenters how to plan your session, but please prepare for and engage in discussion with the audience. The moderators/chair should also arrive 5-10 minutes before their session begins to introduce themselves to the presenters and ask them if there is anything they need. They should ensure that the session begins on time. When the session begins moderators/chair introduce themselves briefly to the audience and then they also introduce each speaker briefly (name, country and title of presentation). Moderators/chair should warn the presenters few minutes before they need to stop. If you are a moderator/chair allow for few questions from the audience at the end of each presentation, then move on introducing the next presenter. If time allows, you can engage the presenters and the audience in a general discussion at the end of the session. Guidelines for Poster Presentations Presenters should set up their posters as early as possible on the day of their poster presentation to allow the audience to have a quick look before the first keynote session of the day starts. The poster sessions run during and after lunchtime from during the conference days. Stand by your poster during the poster session to engage viewers in discussions. The posters will be displayed in portrait style. Tape and/or blu tack for hanging the posters will be provided. The posters will be placed on poster boards in the Foyer of the basement floor and can remain on for the whole day. Please remove your poster at the end of the day. Size of the poster boards is: H: 220cm W: 100cm, size of the actual posters should be either H:120cm W: 90cm or H:110cm W:80cm

49 Other Activities and Events in the Program Tuesday 17th July Academy Workshops Academy Workshops will take place at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, The Building of Rectorate (Panepistimiou Street 30) in the morning between 9:30 and 12:30 and in the afternoon between 13:30 and 16:30. See also Tuesday program. Please ask at the Registration and Information desk of either Divani Caravel Hotel or National and Kapodistrian University of Athens for details. 48 Opening Ceremony The Opening Ceremony will take place at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, The Building of Rectorate, Panepistimiou Street 30 at 18:00pm until 21:00pm. The ceremony will start in The Great Hall of the Rectorate Buiding with the Mayor of the City and the Rector of the University welcoming all delegates. The social program will follow with the Music Group Oneiremata, the Orchestra Hhohroma, the City of Athens Choir and the traditional dance group of Municipality of Petroupoli performing for all delegates. The evening would not be completed without tasting and chatting with the help of great finger food and wine that will be provided to all guests.
