From dorm rooms to large family cabins, hotels, they usually will have variety of sleeping arrangements to facilitate your needs. This publication s purpose is to provide information for your church or organization to locate a facility to hold your next event or retreat. Whether training, brainstorming, getting to know each other or spiritual renewal; off-site retreats are viewed as a great way to increase productivity and improve team dynamics in your ministry. In this publication you will find listings of various camps, and retreat facilities. We will show you a limited list of amenities for each location and also provide a map in the center of the book for your convenience to help you with the locations most attractive to your situation. Living in Colorado we are fortunate to have such a wide variety of beautiful properties to hold retreats. Many of the facilities have placed display ads showing more information and photos of there property. We also encourage you to visit our website at for updated information on the camps and retreat centers. have many activities that their guests can take part in. Retreat centers usually have multiple meeting rooms that are perfect for men or women retreats or for staff getaways. Conference centers are generally larger facilities that are able to handle larger groups as well as the individual attending a conference. Sometimes these are hotels with meeting rooms, or they may have cabins or dorms. They range from rustic to luxurious, but are full service facilities with many activities and amenities. Living in Colorado we are fortunate to have such a wide variety of beautiful properties to hold retreats. We hope this publication will be helpful for your ministry to find that perfect spot for your next retreat. These facilities are family oriented and are perfect for youth groups or family getaways. These camp have many activities for their guests, often too many to list, so we encourage you to check their website for more details on the property. The Retreat centers are facilities that are conducive for Christian retreats and planning meetings of a variety of sizes. Retreat centers may or may not have organized programs for their guests but

5 Taking young people to camp can be a fun and rewarding experience, as long as you plan and prepare for success. Here are a few key ideas in putting together a trip with young people. 5 Preparing for Camp By Pastor Blake Bush had to haul in all the water. I made other plans. I was so glad I scouted out the trip, because no one mentioned the outbreak on the phone. Huh, I wonder why! Do not get caught by surprise The number one rule of camps: scout it out. The year I became a youth pastor I followed in the footsteps of the previous pastor who developed quite a reputation for getting the caravan lost on the way to camp. Even though the kids were just having fun, the poor guy never lived it down. Do not get lost, your credibility is at stake! One year I scouted out a trip our youth would to take to California from Colorado which would culminate in a boating excursion at Lake Mead. Located in the middle of the desert, Lake Mead in the summer can hit well over 100 degrees. Upon stopping to check out the boats, I noticed a sign at the front desk that said, Water is no longer available at Lake Mead due to an outbreak of salmonella. We encourage all groups to get their water in town. I decided the last thing I wanted to do was take a group of youth into the desert where I a voice of one calling in the wilderness, Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Mark 1:2-4 Rule number two is to have a pre-trip meeting with all the drivers. Plan the stops. Teach people how to travel together. Do not assume people know how to caravan together. I personally have many stories of lost drivers, kids not in seats, and kids even riding in the back of the u-haul. Rule three is to over-plan activities. Some activities do not last as long as you think they will, and some even land with a thud. A good rule is to have three times the activities you think you will need. The last thing you want is a camp were kids are bored or left on their own to get into trouble. Some of my best memories of camps come from the bad things we experienced Rule four is to redeem the bad. Some of my best memories of camps come from the bad things we experienced. To this day my youth (now adults) joke about some of the bad food, bad beds, bad bed bugs, and even bad smells. Rule four is to challenge kids. Don t make camp too easy. Limit their cell phones. Stretch them physically. Mix up the cliques. Make them spend time alone. When I was in high school my church took us on a 10 day back pack trip every year. That was a stretch to begin with. During the trip they sent us out on a 24 hour solo where we had nothing but nature, a sleeping bag, and a little bit of food. I could hear my friend in the section next to me crying out for someone to talk to. It was hilarious! Afterwards he said he never experienced silence before, and it deeply impacted him (in a good way). Camps are meant to challenge kids and take them out of their normal routine. Even if they complain, call them higher!
