The Dunckley Peak Retreat is located 10 miles southwest of the small town of Hayden, an historic town with Post Office, grocery store, shops, museum and dining options. It is convenient to the Yampa Valley Regional Airport, a commercial airport offering direct flights to large hubs around the country, as well as a private, charter airport with air ambulance service. The surrounding National Forest and adjacent Flattop Wilderness area, with their many high mountain lakes, fishable streams, and miles of horse and hiking trails offer excellent big game/trophy hunting. Stagecoach and Steamboat Lake State Parks and the upper Colorado River provide more boating, kayaking, white-water rafting, and fishing opportunities. 3 Headquarters Dunckley Peak Retreat is nestled into a lovely alpine setting under the Peak. The three bedroom, 2 full bath lodge sleeps 9 and has a bar, kitchen, 2 balconies, 2 fireplaces and decks. The original homestead cabin has been remodeled to accommodate 6 with a full kitchen. It has a separate bathhouse with a sauna, washer and dryer, shower room, and fireplace. A large heated shop for tools, saddles, and recreational equipment also showcases a bar, a covered pavilion, an outdoor kitchen, a BBQ, a dance floor, and additional sleeping accommodations. The barn has hay storage and corrals for the horses.

Dunckley Peak Outfitters and Pack Service operated the hunting business (permit available) in Game Management Unit 231. The historic remodeled log cabin, lodge and shop accommodate hunters and guests in rustic luxury. Heat and electric are provided by the efficient solar generator system, which includes 2 generators, a bank of batteries and gallon mobile propane tanks conveniently mounted on wheels in order to maintain a continuous supply. All lodgings have gas lights and wood/coal stoves and/or fireplaces, running water, satellite television and internet access. Plus there are two adjudicated wells and springs on the property. The solar booster pump on the well keeps the cistern full, which saves on propane.
