2 In addition to the four Service Centers located in Beloit, La Crosse, Platteville, and Madison, Badgerland Council owns and maintains six outdoor properties of various types, including 2 resident camps; Camp Ehawee & Camp Black Hawk. 2

3 The new troop overnight certification course is in a home study packet, or in person. The home study packet can be found on the Volunteer Resources CD, or on under the For Volunteers tab, click on Forms and Publications. To find out about in person trainings, click on Training Course Information and Registration for details on the upcoming course schedule. Boy Scout Training does not apply for GS Overnight Requirements. GS Specific Policies, Procedures, Paperwork, Properties, Helpful Hints for Working with girls and more is what you will find on Badgerland Council s Troop Overnight Certification courses. You can also go to the property section of our website to get more details, and to see additional photos. Most of all, enjoy the properties, be safe, and of course, have fun! 3

6 Located approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from the Madison Service Center. Stetler is centrally located between Madison and La Crosse to make it easily accessible by many areas of the jurisdiction. The property has hiking trails, a stream, and a large open area near the Program House perfect for programming and learning primitive camping skills. Prairie restoration has also begun in one area of the property. 6

7 Stetler is a great place for a first overnight. It s on 160 acres, sleeps 32, includes prairie, hiking trails in the bluffs and a trout stream complete with beaver pond. Although it may feel as though you are far from civilization, Richland Center has a Super Wal-Mart & many other resources available to you. 7

8 Inside of Stetler you will find open space for dining, programming, and sleeping and an outdoor fire ring. Great for flying kites, playing in the snow, year round fun! 8

9 Brandenburg is located 30 minutes from the Madison Service Center, easily accessible from a major roadway. There are four separate areas that can be reserved. 9

10 Hilltop stretches down a hillside with one unit (Hilltop) at the top of the hill; 4 sleeping cabins, each with four bunk beds, connected by stairways sleeps 34 (2 in small room on main level). There is an open patio in the center of the building with an outdoor fireplace. There is a full kitchen and dining/program space. 10

11 There is a full kitchen and open eating/program space, and a porch off to the side. There are 4 bunkhouses that sleep 8 each and an additional room with two beds on the main floor. 11

12 Just down the hill from Hilltop connected by a road, is Sumac. There is also a unit house at Sumac with electricity and small kitchen with fireplace. You will also find a small program/eating space inside and out. 12

14 Sumac currently has 2 cabins & 2 platform tents. Eventually there will be 4 cabins sleeping 6 each in bunkbeds. There are two outdoor latrines. 14

15 Following the path behind Sumac is a trail down to Kinderspielen and Lake Katrine. Badgerland Council owns all the property surrounding the lake as well, and there is a trail that you can take around the lake. You can use canoes on the lake, but there is no swimming due to leaches. There is a large pavilion space and latrines with a fire circle, grill and water pump. This property can be used for day use or primitive camping often utilized with either Sumac or Hilltop. There is a small, garage-style boathouse with equipment storage, as well as hiking trails that stretch through the entire property. 15

17 Following the road as you leave Brandenburg is Hawks Nest, a ranch-style house with 1 bathroom, kitchen, fireplace, outdoor fire ring and some indoor program/eating space. There are mattresses that sleep 19 on the floor. The barn on the property is currently only used for storage. 17

18 Located about 1 hour, 15 minutes from the Beloit Service Center and about 1 hour, 30 minutes from the Madison Service Center. The property has a variety of natural features with shallow lakes/marshland, light walking/hiking trails around the property. There is one building on the property, an equipment shed, a platform tent unit, and several primitive camp sites. 18

19 Oakwood Knoll has a lodge that is used for groups and day camps. It has a fireplace, small kitchen, nurse s station, which can also be used as a private sleeping area, and an office space also a large basement for storm shelter, indoor program space, and storage. Flush toilets are inside but there are no shower facilities. 19

20 Down a path from the main lodge are 5 hard topped platform tents known as The Hilton. There is also a sun shelter and fire ring outside of Lodge that can be used for programming. 20

21 Located approximately 50 minutes - 1 hour from the Madison Service Center located outside of Hollandale. There are 3 distinct sleeping areas to reserve. 21

22 Gray Manor is a large farm house with a covered porch, and amazing views. The house sleeps up to 72 between bedrooms and a large open attic that girls love! There is a full kitchen and wood burning stove. Prairie restoration is on the hillside outside of Gray Manor. 22

23 Following the path and signs for a few minutes will lead you to Whispering Winds. On this site are 7 Platform tents sleeping up to 28. You will also find latrines, a fire circle and unit house with a kitchen and fireplace and small indoor program & eating space. 23

24 Going further along the path you will come to Woodland Hills, a site with 4 Tipi Tents that sleep This is a primitive site, and you can add other primitive tents on ground level. There are no mattresses, but there is a latrine. Also, a new covered pavilion offers shelter from sun/rain when eating or for program activities. 24

25 The Beloit Service Center is located next to Big Hill Park, a beautiful area for hiking and picnics. The Service Center has mattresses and room for 30 to sleep, with a full kitchen, bathrooms and showers with a door directly leading outside. 25

26 The La Crosse service center has room for 20 people to sleep, but no mattresses. There is a full kitchen, fireplace, and plenty of beautiful green space outside. 26

27 The Madison Service Center has the Ticalli/Cabana rooms, a full kitchen, room for small group activities, bathrooms and a shower. There is room for 30 to sleep but no mattresses. 27

28 The Platteville Service Center has a meeting room with a table for 12 and small kitchen area, but no room to sleep. 28

29 Camp Ehawee means the Camp of Laughing Maidens and is located about a half hour s drive north of La Crosse. It is on higher, flat land, which makes it ideal for camping and outdoor programs for all ages. There are some buildings that can be reserved when camp is not in session. 29

30 The Nakomis Lodge sleeps 38, is ADA accessible, and has two communal bunk rooms, showers, flush toilets, full kitchen, basement for program space, and storm shelter. This is available for rental use outside of the summer resident camp months. Bertha Schuman Lodge sleeps 38, and is generally used for staff housing and hangout (male staff residence and female admin staff residence during resident camp). The lodge is available for rental use outside of the summer months. There is a full kitchen, bathrooms, two bunk rooms and open program space with a fireplace, tables, and seating area. The basement is used for storage, program space, and a storm shelter. 30

31 Hope Lodge is the centerpiece of Camp Ehawee. It houses the dining hall, a commercial kitchen and related storage, camp offices, trading post, and nurse s station. It seats 350, and offers open indoor program space during camp when tables and chairs are broken down. The wrap around screened porch offers conversation areas and additional program space. 31

32 Nature & art centers house a creative and performing arts space. 32

33 There are 13 log cabins that sleep 10 people each (8 campers in 4 bunks and separate counselor sleeping with 2 beds). Only 4 are heated with electrical heaters. They are not suitable for use in severe cold weather, but would be OK for early fall & late spring. Some cabins are accessible by ramp. 33

34 There are sports fields sand volleyball amphitheater there is also a new, paved basketball court. 34

35 The swimming pool is a 3-5 depth 4 lane 25 yard pool. It s 10 deep in the well area (no diving board). There is also a slough (backwater of the Black River) for boating only canoes, dock, equipment storage. 35

36 Camp Black Hawk is located 3.5 hours north of Madison. The property offers a variety of program areas with open fields, hiking trails, and two lakes. It is used exclusively for summer camp between the end of May and mid August, however some areas are available for reservations during the rest of the year. 36

37 Waunagon Sleeps up to 36 in a bunk room and private rooms and is available for rent during the winter months. The Lodge (Dining Hall & Kitchen) also acts as large open indoor program space and has a full commercial kitchen. This building is not winterized and used only during the summer and as storage in the off-season. 37

38 All sleeping units are platform tents each tent sleeps four campers on metal camp cots with mattresses and mosquito netting. 38

39 Sleeping units have latrines only (affectionately known as a La La). Running water for hand washing and personal hygiene is available in campsites. There are flush toilets available on camp property, but not near the sleeping units. 39

40 Each sleeping area has a Unit House this is an older photo, they are all now enclosed and screened to allow for bug-free programming 1 unit has electricity all others do not. The Unit House provides program space in units, storage space, and acts as a tornado shelter. 40

41 Horses are leased each year for the summer program and housed on-site from June through August. Camp Black Hawk is the only Girl Scout camp in WI with horses on-site. We maintain a riding ring and riding trails, and have many opportunities for campers to horseback ride depending on their program of interest. The barn is used for classroom learning, and as a tack room. 41

42 A new dock was built for Lake Niobi in the Summer of The lake and the surrounding land is owned entirely by Camp Black Hawk but it is under the jurisdiction of the DNR. CBH also shares waterfront for Lake Florence where girls can sail, canoe, rowboat, or kayak/funyak. 42

43 There is a climbing wall and high ropes course. Girls must be 12 to participate in the high ropes course at Camp Black Hawk. 43

44 There is a creek on the property, as well as walking trails around the lake and throughout the property. The Tamarack building is the arts & crafts studio with pottery and photography equipment. There is also an archery range at Camp Black Hawk. 44
