4 INTRODUCTION This booklet will help your pack have a fun-filled camping experience at summer camp. Please share with parents and leaders. The outdoor program is one of the most appealing features of Scouting and a great experience for boys and adults alike. Each program is built around a unique theme and takes place at either Indian Mound Scout Reservation or Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta. Let our experienced staff show your pack what summer fun is all about while earning advancements and working your way towards the National Summertime Pack Award. Come along and enjoy swimming, archery, craft skills and more as your pack explores the great outdoors. WHY CUB SCOUT SUMMER PROGRAMS? To boys, the outdoor program is one of the most appealing features of Cub Scouting and an experience at camp is a highlight of the year. 1. The program facilities and equipment can't be duplicated by a pack on its own. Our camps provide a variety of programs and facilities to match your pack's needs. 2. Advancement opportunities help Cub Scouts make progress on achievements and electives and Webelos Scouts can work toward activity badges. 3. An enthusiastic, well-trained staff is available to help with a program that is full of fun and learning. 4. Strict health and safety standards are maintained at all times. 5. Our camps are licensed and inspected by the State of Wisconsin and by the Boy Scouts of America. 6. The National Summertime Pack Award and Quality Pack Award will be much easier for your pack to earn by attending summer camp. 4

FOREST DRIVE I-94 TO MADISON DELAFIELD ROAD I-94 TO MILWAUKEE TO I-43 ARRIVAL AT CAMP: Upon arrival at camp, the pack camp coordinator should check in the group at the camp office next to the main parking lot. The staff there will give you directions as needed (see map in appendix for parking lot location). A completed personal health & medical history form for each participant must be turned in. This includes adults. Health forms and rosters will not be returned so please make copies for your records. DEPARTURE FROM CAMP: Your pack's leadership will receive patches and 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, 4 th, and 5 th year Rocker patches for each boy. 15

16 MEDICAL INFORMATION MEDICAL ASSISTANCE: The health lodge has a qualified first aid person on duty. Minor scrapes, insect bites and bruises are handled there. If there is reason to believe the injury or illness is more serious, the camper or leader will be taken to the emergency room at the hospital in Oconomowoc. MEDICATIONS: If campers or leaders are taking medications or have allergies, please make sure these are noted on the health forms and the needed medications are brought to camp. At camp, the leader or parent and the camp first aid staff will decide who will administer the medication and where it will be stored. A routine drug administration form should be completed and presented upon arrival for every adult. Any youth camper who brings medication, but is not accompanied by his parent or guardian should also bring a routine drug administration form to camp. WHO TO CALL: The personal health & medical record should be specific about who to contact and the telephone number at any hour, day or night. An injured or ill youth may not be able to provide this information. FAMILY DOCTOR: A physical examination by your family doctor is not required unless a condition exists that would make it advisable. PERSONAL HEALTH & MEDICAL HISTORY: The Personal Health & Medical History is of utmost importance to the health and safety of our Cub Scouts at camp. A completed form is mandatory for youth and adults for all programs. A new form must be filled out, signed, and dated by a parent. This form will not be returned to you. State health codes require us to keep these on file for two years. Youth will not be able to participate if this form is not on file at camp. SAFE SWIM: All swimming activities in Scouting are conducted according to the Safe Swim Defense plan. Part of the water safety plan calls for each person, including adults, to conduct a swim test. For many of our programs, time will not allow us to conduct this test. For those participants that have not taken the swim test, you will be allowed to swim in the white swim area only. RAIN: Every attempt, within common safety guidelines, is made to offer the full outdoor program each day. Special "rainy day" program features may be substituted for some activities if the weather warrants it. Regardless, all programs will take place; rain or shine. TRADING POST: The camp operates a well-stocked store that will be open at selected times during all Cub Scout and Webelos Scout events at camp. Items include craft supplies, camp souvenirs, candy, soda, fruit juices, snack items, Scouting literature, camp T-shirts, and camp activity patches. 16

17 LETTER TO EMPLOYER: The Three Harbors Council, at your request, will write a letter to your company or supervisor telling them you took your time to volunteer to make a summer program available to boys. Request forms will be available at the office at camp. LOST ITEMS: A lost and found area is maintained at the camp office. Should you or your Scouts lose something report it as soon as possible. Be sure to mark all clothing and personal items with your name. Lost and found items will be brought to the camping department at the Milwaukee County Council Service Center following the close of camp and will be held until October 1 st. Thereafter, unclaimed items will be distributed to those in need. NON-DISCRMINATION STATEMENT: In the operation of the summer camp program, no child, as defined by the program regulations, will be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, national origin, age or handicap. Any person, who believes that a child has been discriminated against in any USDA related activity, should write immediately to the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. 17
