2 A Message from the President... Dear Friends and Neighbors, Fall is in the air, the days are still warm and pleasant, and the nights are cool enough to open all the windows and enjoy those pleasant evening breezes blowing through the house. What a wonderful time to live in Florida and enjoy a great night s sleep. Fall is also the time that we get extremely busy here at Lake Hammock Village. November is extremely active as we have our annual Fall Garage Sale on November 7, followed by our Veteran's Day Celebration on November 11, and the Fall Harvest Dance on November 14...and that's all in a span of 7 days. Then, as Thanksgiving arrives, we offer our annual Thanksgiving Dinner in the clubhouse. December brings the Golf Cart Christmas Parade, Christmas Caroling, the Christmas Cantata, our Christmas Dinner in the clubhouse and last but not least, Joice and Clark's 3 rd Annual Christmas Open House (see flyer in this month s Gator Tales). It's a wonderful time of year, but all of these events take a tremendous amount of work to make them successful. Therefore, I urge you, as your time allows, to sign up and volunteer wherever you can. Signup sheets for all events, except Joice and Clark's Annual Open House, can be found in the clubhouse. Finally, as I have mentioned in this forum before, we need people to serve on the Board of Directors as we have 3 openings coming available for the term. If you have new ideas, would like to see some things change, or would like to really make a difference, please consider throwing your hat into the ring! Clark

6 Barbara Pund (Photo courtesy of Sharon Bowden) Julie Camp & Stephanie Camp Julie Camp (Mother) and Stephanie Camp (Daughter) came to Lake Hammock from Mexico, Missouri. Stephanie worked in Missouri at the Walmart store in the accounting office. She now works at Walmart here as a cashier. Julie worked with the handicapped in Group Homes and in her own home. She felt very close to them like they would be her own family. Julie told her daughter to check in Haines City at Lake Hammock. Stephanie liked the community and was shown around to houses that were for sale. They decided to buy 113 Reineke Rd. They always came to Florida on vacations and Stephanie enjoyed Florida and always said as a little girl that she wanted to work at Disney (maybe in the future). Julie s siblings are still in Missouri and hoping to come to Florida to visit, especially in the winter months. Julie wants to make desserts for bingo night and Stephanie would like to get involved with crafts. They have two dogs, Eve and Disney. They are very protective. If you see them around or planting flowers by their house, stop by and introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. Barbara Pund has lived in Florida for 15 years, 13 of those here in Lake Hammock. She was born and raised in Massachusetts. She has 2 stepdaughters and 5 grandchildren in Connecticut. Barb began her career as a nurse anesthetist and went on to working in nursing home administration, mostly at Haines City Health Care. She enjoys shopping of any kind, doing a variety of crafts, visiting Disney World, and just enjoying retirement. She also works with the teens at 1st Baptist Church in Lake Alfred. Barbara is also the local manager for The Samaritan's Purse shoebox project. According to their website, these boxes are used in 21 different ways around the world whenever needed. It is her responsibility to see that each shoebox is appropriately packed and then bundled into cartons before moving to the next part of their journey. Plastic shoeboxes are preferred over cardboard because in many countries the boxes are reused as water containers. Locally, the project has grown from 400 to 14,000 boxes! For more information you can go to operationchristmaschild.org and learn about items that you can purchase for this project. Dollar Tree is an excellent local resource for items. Barb is also accepting donations toward the cost of shipping the boxes. All money donated goes directly to shipping. She has a box on a chair in front of her house where your items can be left. (Checks should be given directly to Barbara). Please check the website for items they need, and also items they cannot use. When you see her out walking her dog Lily, take the time to get to know your neighbor. Submitted by Stephanie Strom Submitted by Marion Spiegel
