Event review - October - FIELD TRIP - Six members: Asta Moore, Cathy Nelmes, Sandy Pagano, Leanne Penman, Diane Reese and Sue Wyatt attended the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Gainesville, Saturday, October 6, 2018 Fall Woodland Ramble Arts & Crafts Market Event. - DAY PROGRAM MEETING October 8, 2018 Attendees: 33 members, 1 guest The room was set for 38 RSVP s. Speaker was Dottie Myer. - SERVICE PROJECT October 20, 2018 Participants Beth & Brad Bahel, Diana Farmer, Tixie Fowler, Terry Sutton, John & Nancy O Reilly, Leanne Penman and youth: Isabella Aguilar and Sierra Rayneg represented us at Saturday s Rivers Alive Annual Stream Clean Up. - FIELD TRIP - Join us this Thursday, October 25, 11AM Carpool to the AmericasMart Creative Workshop: Wreath Magic with the Former White House Florist There will be an inspirational design demonstration by Laura Dowling, former Chief Floral Designer at the White House and author of Floral Diplomacy at the White House, A White House Christmas and the just-released title Wreaths. Laura will share her favorite strategies for creating uniquely beautiful seasonal and holiday wreaths, including tips and tricks for crafting stylish designs using both every day and unexpected materials. Learn special techniques for creating beautiful holiday homes and get a rare insider s peek into what it was like to create inspiring décor for the iconic White House Christmas. b. Upcoming Events November - COMMUNITY Dean Forest Preserve Sunday, November 4, 2018 Hours 2:00 to 4:00PM The Enchanted Forest Come turn your Halloween pumpkins into Fairy Houses using items found in nature. Line the forest path with public art which will be on display through the month of November. This will be an Environmental Education program to create a sense of connection to and stewardship for this local forest. The objective is to engage people in a positive experience and attract them to the preserve. Members bring natural dried material and shallow cardboard boxes or cardboard box lids to the cottage between now and 11/4. (Costco is a great source for boxes.) - EVENING PROGRAM MEETING, November 12, 2018 Holiday Centerpieces Phillip Morrow, Floral Designer 7PM RSVP by Friday, November 9 th to Linda DeMaris. - SERVICE PROJECT To install native plants in the Johnson Dean Forest Preserve, 3pm to 5pm Wednesday, November 14, 2018 c. Ronald McDonald House Dogwood District Garden Therapy - Continue to save your aluminum tabs for our local Ronald McDonald House, a home away from home for needy families of children with serious illnesses at nearby hospitals and medical facilities. Bring to our local club meetings and we ll deliver to district and federation meetings. 3. Grounds Chair - Carol MacGregor a. Discovery Garden Park beds Barbara Kohlhausen b. Calendar tidy up time in the cottage garden c. Update from Jeanette and Hazel on feasibility/permission to assist USPS in planting shrubs or ornamental grasses. 4 6. Plant Sale Digs Chair Cathy Nelmes a. Distribution of potted plants from Gail Thompson s garden and plants from the city. b. Plants from the city - On Tuesday, 10/16 volunteers: Beth Bahel, Leanne Penman, Trudy Rudert and Terrie Watch potted ferns received from the City of Norcross planters through Leslie Marcinek, Gardens by Design. Meryl Wilkerson is our city contact. She is also a former president of the Norcross Garden Club. - On Thursday, 7AM Volunteers: Linda DeMaris, Leanne Penman, Trudy Rudert and Terrie Watch collected Gaura, Alocasia, Caladium, Plumbago, Globe Amaranth seeds and Margarita Potato Vine tubers. - We have not heard back from Carl Redman Member of Sustainable Norcross Commission Possible Plant Rescue at the former WestRock site between Thrasher and West Peachtree is being redeveloped as a multi-use (primarily residential) campus. Update from Jeanette on possible plantings to rescue. 7. Publicity Chair Jolyn Barrow a. Sync function on smartphones - Check default notification, may want auto reminder 1 day before event b. Will add links on the website rental page advertising member services pertaining to rental, i.e. floral, catering, photography, etc. 8. Rental Chair Jane Cunningham a. Upcoming rentals 9. By-Laws 7.3 The Nominating Committee shall prepare a slate of officers which shall be presented to the members at the regular November meeting of both Dat abd Evening groups. The slate shall consist of nominees for the ofices of President, First Vice President, Second Vice Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Tresdurer. In addition, the slate shall include nominees for Presiding Chair Evening Group, Recording Chair Evening Group, and Program Chair Evening Group. Motion to postpone presenting slate of officers until December meeting. B.
