We have been so very lucky the past couple of years with sunny and dry weather and we are hoping for the same this year. Liz will provide us with our final group of flyers when we meet at Bill s house on June 2 nd. Those of us who are going to the Streetside Classics show on June 4 th will bring a large number there and distribute them. Thanks to everyone who handed out flyers to merchants and stuck flyers into cars at cruise nights and car shows during these past few weeks and months. Thanks also to members who sold (or tried to sell) trophy sponsorships. Let s put on a great car show this year! Our next meeting is at the home of Bill and Sharon Hearnburg and will be a cookout and meeting at 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 2nd. Their address is 325 Laurel Lakes Drive in Carrollton. As much as we might like to treat this gathering as strictly a social gala, we must have a business meeting component to tie up any loose ends and finalize logistics. Rick is our Show Chairman again this year and he will need to know who is doing setup, parking, registration, vendor orientation, door prize and 50/50 tickets, announcing, judging, photography, awards, and take-down. We also have a special veteran door prize drawing to discuss and manage. Because our club is small and our tasks are many, you may be asked to help out in more than one capacity. Please try your very best to attend this final meeting prior to our car show lots to discuss. Our car show is advertised to run from 10 am until 2 pm but we all know people start showing up around 9 am, so we will want some club members there at 8 am or so. Trophies usually start around 2 pm so it is closer to 3 pm when many of us begin to leave. Finally, remember to bring your old car or cars ($20 for one or many) to our show and we will park together again out front near route 27. And wear your car club golf shirt if you have one. Please call Bill at or him at lawdawg73@bellsouth.net by 3pm on May 30 to let him know if you are coming or not so he knows how much food to purchase. d. Enjoy the Ride! Glenn President smessage 1

Atlanta Motoring Festival 2016 By Glenn Novak On Saturday, May 14 th some members of our West Georgia Region of AACA attended the inaugural Atlanta Motoring Festival Concours d Elegance at Chukkar Polo Farms in Alpharetta. The next day was the British Motorcar Day next door in Roswell, making it a very special and upscale weekend. The organizers had around 120 cars on a very beautiful Saturday in horse country just into Cherokee County. Many of the cars were from north Fulton County, with many driven and several trailered. Spectator admission was $10 with free parking and participants paid $40 in advance to register their vehicles. It was a stretch to call this car show a concours as it did not compare in any way with Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, or Hilton Head. There were no Duesenbergs, Cords, Hispano-Suizas or Pierce-Arrows. But the cars that were there were in splendid condition and there was a lot of variety. There was a 1941 Packard 120 sedan and a 1941 Cadillac Series 62 convertible coupe. One man displayed his collection of Fifties GM open cars: 1957 and 1958 Bonnevilles, 1953 Buick Skylark, 1957 Olds 98, and 1957 Cadillac Eldorado. Foreign cars were well represented with many E-Type Jags, Austin-Healeys, MG s, Porsches, and a resplendent 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V. A Florida couple displayed their Morgan threewheeler, and some expensive Italian cars showed up as well. Perhaps the organizers will have some success over time in growing this show. Next year it will be at Johns Creek. Clearly their work is cut out for them and they must abandon the People s Choice voting for official and qualified judging teams. There is just no other way to get those million dollars cars out of their garages. 2

Show Me Missouri Tour By Rick Horne Whether you say Missouri or Missoura it s all the same great state. "The Show Me Missouri" Tour was the annual Spring Tour of the Rolls Royce-Owners' Club. The RROC is over 60 years old and is dedicated to the preservation of all Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars. We took our 1952 Bentley Mark VI The Show Me Tour was a progressive Tour which means you drive to new areas and check into a hotel every few days. We began in St Louis. Our host hotel, the Sheraton Westport Plaza, was not only a plush hotel but was in close proximity to many of the sites we were visiting. The welcome party was hosted Saturday night by Mark Hyman at his facility. Mark is a world renowned collectable car dealer and has approximately 150 cars for sale at any time. During our visit we saw cars as early as the turn of the 20th Century and as late as the 1980s. Sunday morning we headed off to the Creve Coeur airfield where we visited the Historic Aircraft Restoration Museum. We arrived to the sound of revving engines and watched as several private owners took off in their own antique aircraft. Bi-planes flew over us with a wing tip and after that excitement we set out to admire the massive collection in 4 hangars at this working museum. All of the planes are flight worthy and have been restored to their original beauty. We even saw the plane used in "The Great Waldo Pepper" as well as a very rare Sopwith "Pup". Next we headed to Fred Guyton s personal collection and museum. Fred is an interesting fellow. An architect by trade, Fred does all the work for Busch Gardens and Busch Stadium and he designed a place we all know well, the Atlanta Aquarium. Fred s museum, which is still in process, features a walk through automotive time as viewed from the 4

automobile motif. It begins with the first cars and goes all the way to WWII. Fred has Rolls Royce, Packard, Stutz, Pierce-Arrow, Jensen and most everything in between. Monday we saddled up and headed off to the Daniel Boone home and village. Daniel Boone spent his last years and died in Missouri. Our docent was quick to inform us that what most of us remember about Daniel Boone came from the TV show starring Fess Parker. While it was an entertaining show, unfortunately much of it was historically inaccurate. The Boone Home overlooks Boonesville village which is a simulated town comprised of over a dozen 19th century buildings. Each building has been moved to the site. More than 20 buildings such as the general store, school house, and grist mill offer a peek into life on the Missouri frontier. After saying goodbye to Daniel Boone, we drove beautiful river roads along the Missouri River and ate lunch at a winery in Missouri wine country. The next day moved north to Hannibal. Our second hotel overlooked the Mississippi river and Mark Twain's home. We have picture of Liz painting Tom Sawyer's famous fence. That evening we took a river boat dinner cruise on the mighty Mississippi and watched American Bald Eagles fly up and down the river looking for their own dinners. The next day we headed west to Laclede, Missouri, the birth place of General Jack Pershing. Black Jack Pershing was the only 5-Star General in our country's history. We toured his home and a small museum next door. One of the best things we often see at historic sites are the short videos about the subject of the museum. They are usually well done and many times with actors portraying roles in reenactments of historical people and events. Next stop was Marceline, Missouri, Walt Disney's boyhood home. When you see Main Street USA at Disneyland it looks exactly like main street in Marceline. Disney lived there from age 5 until he was 10 but these were the happiest times in his childhood according to Disney. The ladies of the local Methodist church served us lunch in the recreation hall of the church. Everything was homemade and incredible. Best lunch we had on the tour in my opinion. We headed west again for Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Excelsior Springs is a quaint town which is situated on numerous natural springs. Like Warm Springs, Georgia, Excelsior Springs water reputedly held healing properties. Being located near major rail hubs Excelsior Springs was a destination for those seeking cures for most aliments until the 1940s when modern Our first stop on Sunday morning was the Creve Ceour Airfield At the airport, we saw incredible planes all in working a flyable condition 1930 Star Cavalier 90HP Lambert 1941 Ryan ST 200HP racer 5

medicine began to take hold. Our host hotel was the historic Elms built in the early part of the 20th Century. The hotel is in downtown Excelsior Springs. Luckily the town did not fall victum to urban renewal in the 1960s. Most of the buildings in the downtown area remain as built. The next day we toured over to nearby Independence Missouri. Independence is home to the Harry S Truman Library and Museum. This is one of the better Presidential libraries you ll visit. In retirement President Truman returned to Independence to live out his life. Many of the locals related stories of the former President stopping to speak with people on the street while taking his morning walk. We also got a tour of plating operation in Independence. The company still does cadmium plating which is hard to find today as it s subject to many federal regulations. Our closing banquet was topped off with an awards ceremony. The awards were not a class judged award. These were more of a fun award. In fact the trophies were re-purposed sports awards from one the organizers' children. Liz was given the Car the Queen Would Mostly Likely Want to Ride In award. It as a great week on the road. The front entrance from the road of Daniel Boone's home Peace Chapel along the Avenue of the period Booneville "Town" Disneyland and Disney World's "Main Street USA" was patterned after this street in Marceline, Missouri where Walt Disney spent his happiest boyhood years. Becky Thatcher's house in Hannibal, Missouri 1931 Bentley 8-Litre Corsica Tourer Mark Twain's home in Hannibal, Missouri across the street from Becky's

Hannibal's main street is one block off of the mighty Mississippi Part of our group entering Daniel Boone's home in Defiance, Missouri. Daniel Boone and his family built this homestead in Defiance, Missouri. His Booneslick Road later become the eastern starting-point of the Santa Fe Trail and the Oregon Trail. This historic hotel has survived in Hannibal John J. Pershing's boyhood home The Old Peace Chapel was built in the 1800 s and was originally a general store and dance hall. The building was bought by a German Evangelical congregation and remodeled into a church. The church was brought to the Daniel Boone Site in Harry S. Truman's military ID at the Truman Library
