FAQ ANSWERS WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? First of all, comfortable walking shoes. Please also dress in layers for the forecasted weather as 50% of our extensive collection is located out of doors. Tucson is known for its wonderful weather and sunny days. In addition, although the hangars are climate controlled in the warmer months (evaporative cooling), they are too large to be effectively heated on the cooler days. Desert nights generally are 30 degrees cooler than daytime highs; this is especially evident in the early morning. Admissions, the Flight Grill restaurant, the Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame and the Museum Store are air-conditioned during the warmer months. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE EVERYTHING? Allow a minimum of 3-4 hours to visit all five hangars and 80 acres of exhibits. See the PLAN YOUR VISIT for more details. WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS? The museum is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm daily; last admittance is at 4:00pm. Tucson, Arizona is located in the Mountain Standard Time zone in an area that does not observe/follow daylight saving time adjustments. This means that in the shorterdaylight-hour /winter months (from the first Sunday of November through the second Sunday of March) Arizona s clocks are the same as Pacific Time zone/california however in the longer daylight hour /summer months (from the second Sunday of March through the first Sunday of November) Arizona s time is the same as the Mountain Time zone/denver, Colorado. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO GET IN? Admission prices vary by the visitor's age. We offer special rates for Pima County residents, seniors, groups (20+), veterans, children and AAA members. Only the adult, junior (children 6-12) and senior rates can be purchased online. All others must present ID to qualify for the savings with groups contacting /tours@pimaair.org to arrange for a single payment. For full information, see the Visit page.
ARE YOU OPEN ON WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS? Yes! We are open every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. HOW DO I GET THERE? Driving directions to the Pima Air & Space Museum: From I-10 take Valencia Road (exit 167) east 2 miles to the museum entrance. From northeast Tucson, take Kolb Rd. south to Valencia Rd. and turn west on Valencia to the museum entrance. Flying directions: The closest public airport is Tucson International Airport (5.5 miles away). Phoenix International Airport is approximately two hours from the Pima Air & Space grounds. Private pilots may also consider flying into Ryan Field. IS THERE PARKING AVAILABLE? Parking is free & plentiful. CAN I PARK MY RV? Yes. Plenty of space is available for you to park an RV while visiting the museum, but you cannot park overnight. A nearby RV park is Voyager RV Resort. CAN I LAND MY PLANE AT THE MUSEUM? No. Landings are not permitted at the museum. Tucson International Airport is the nearest general aviation facility and is about 5.5 miles from the Museum. WHEN ARE THE TOURS? Tour times vary by month. See the Tours page for full information. DO YOU GIVE TOURS OF THE DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE? Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is an active U.S. Air Force Base and does not allow general tours. However, Pima Air & Space Museum is the exclusive tour operator for the "Boneyard" aka the 309 Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG), the storage facility that is located on the base. See our Tour page for more information.
HOW LONG DOES THE BONEYARD /AMARG TOUR TAKE? The "Boneyard"/AMARG tour lasts approximately one and a half hours. DO I HAVE TO PAY ADMISSION TO THE MUSEUM TO TOUR THE BONEYARD /AMARG? No - simply enter the Admissions area at the Pima Air & Space Museum and pay for the "Boneyard"/AMARG tour. You are allowed to wait for your tour to begin in the Museum Store or under the blue-roofed ramada east of the Entrance Pavilion, outside of Admissions. CAN I TAKE THE BONEYARD /AMARG TOUR ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY? Sorry, the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is a federal facility that is closed on all weekends and federal holidays. See our Tour page for more information. We are working on a program where volunteer Airmen man the gates on weekends once per calendar-year quarter so check our events calendar for details. SHOULD I MAKE A RESERVATION FOR A TOUR? Reservations are not taken for inidviduals (less than 20). Boneyard /AMARG and tram tours can be purchased online in advance up until midnight Arizona/Pacific Standard Time the day before with limited seats sold the day of the tour at Admissions. Reservations for school and group tours are made by calling or ing tours@pimaair.org. Tours frequently fill up so advanced notice is advised. IS PHOTOGRAPHY PERMITTED AT THE MUSEUM OR ON THE BONEYARD /AMARG TOUR? Yes. You may take unlimited photos or video for your personal use. For commercial purposes you must obtain prior permission from the Director of Visitor Services at info@pimaair.org or phone The "Boneyard"/AMARG bus does stop for photo opportunities however photos must be taken through the bus windows (large and clean). No one is allowed off the bus on the base. If you want you photos included on our website photo gallery, send them to info@pimaair.org. Limit 25MB per .
IS THERE A SPECIAL PRICE FOR GROUPS? Yes. Group rates start at 20 people for both admissions and tours (with one payment). School and educational youth groups are free (pending maximums). See our Visit page for full information and pricing. HOW MUCH IS IT FOR A SCHOOL TOUR? School and educational youth groups are free! We allow one adult for every 10 children in free for school groups grade 4 and up and one adult for every 5 children for groups grade 3 and below (these adults are required). Any additional adults pay general adult admission (or if applicable, Pima County resident). Call to arrange a school tour. We do limit the number of visiting students per day so please call as far ahead as possible. CAN I HOST MY CHILD S BIRTHDAY PARTY THERE? Yes. We recommend combining a Soarin Saturday activity with a meal at Flight Grill. Please contact our restaurant, Flight Grill, for details at martin@flightgrill.com or call DO YOU HAVE A MUSEUM STORE? Yes. You can enter and shop in the Museum Store without paying admission fees. Or shop online! CAN I HOST MY BANQUET, ADULT PARTY OR LARGE PRIVATE/CORPORATE EVENT THERE? Yes. Please events@pimaair.org or call HOW FAR IS IT FROM THE TUCSON AIRPORT? 5.5 miles - about 10 minutes.
CAN I GET TO THE MUSEUM USING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION? Sorry, not at this time. CAN I BRING MY DOG? Yes. Leashed pets are allowed at the museum. Only service animals are allowed on the riding tours ( Boneyard /AMARG and tram), but non-service animals can be crated and the crates left in the Museum Store s climate-controlled storage room (airconditioning and/or heating). One large animal crate (with pillow) is available on a first-come basis. Please contact Admissions when needed. Pets should never be left in vehicles. CAN I BRING A PICNIC? No. We only allow you to bring water into the museum. The museum s restaurant, Flight Grill, is open daily from 9:30am to 4:30pm. HOW CAN I BECOME A VOLUNTEER? Our volunteers are the best! We welcome those age 16 and up. From tour guides, to administrative help, to greeters, etc., the museum is always looking for good volunteers. Our policy is to try and match volunteers with their specific interest whenever possible. Attend a monthly orientation to find out if our museum is right for you. Yes, winter residents are allowed. Please see our Volunteer page for more information. CAN I VOLUNTEER IN MORE THAN ONE AREA? Yes, you can volunteer in more than one area of interest including Street Team, Greeters, School Tours, Tram Driver, etc. Just let our Volunteer Coordinator know your interests! CAN I BUY A PLANE? No. The museum s collection is not for sale, but there are several aircraft scrap yards nearby with airplanes and parts from all over the world.
DO YOU DO APPRAISALS OF AVIATION ARTIFACTS? No, we do not do appraisals for any reason. You should look online or in your local telephone directory for appraisers. CAN I GO INSIDE AIR FORCE ONE OR OTHER PLANES? Many of our collection, including Air Force One, are on "permanent loan" from the U.S. government. After 9/11, the U.S. government revised its loan policy to external viewing only. During most special events people are allowed in the cockpit of the T- 33 Shooting Star or the Electric Lightning (Night Wings, British Invasion, Night of Fright, Santa's Landing). Check our event calendar for details. WHERE ARE THE MODEL AIRPLANES? Previously on display in the WWII Barracks, the model-airplane display has been turned back to the Sonoran Model Builders Club and is no longer a museum exhibit. For model lovers our Museum Store offers a selection for purchase. WHY CAN T I VISIT THE WWII BARRACKS? The temporary WWII Barracks are permanently closed to the public because the construction materials do not meet present-day standards. WHERE CAN I FIND OUT IF THERE ARE ANY JOB OPENINGS AT THE MUSEUM? If there are job openings at the museum, they will be listed under the Who We Are tab under Employment. You can also click here to view the job openings. WHAT'S THE PHONE NUMBER FOR THE BONEYARD /AMARG (LOCATED ON THE DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE)? Media should contact tpittman@dm.gov.
WHERE IS THE CLOSEST SHOPPING MALL? Our Museum Store stocks many travel-convenience items including disposable cameras, water, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. The closest shopping mall is Park Place Mall at 5870 E. Broadway near Craycroft. IN WHICH TIME ZONE IS THE PIMA AIR & SPACE MUSEUM LOCATED? Tucson, Arizona is located in the Mountain Standard Time zone in an area that does not observe/follow daylight saving time adjustments. This means that in the "shorterdaylight-hour"/winter months (from the first Sunday of November through the second Sunday of March) Arizona's clocks are the same as Pacific Time zone/california however in the "longer daylight hour"/summer months (from the second Sunday of March through the first Sunday of November) Arizona's time is the same as the Mountain Time zone/denver, Colorado.
