In case you are looking up this address note that I had the wrong zip code in the August newsletter. The meeting at this facility, owned by Fred Guyton, will be a joint meeting with AACA members, and will be for members of those two organizations only, with one guest each allowed up to a total attendance of 80. A head count of likely attendees from the CLC was taken at the last meeting. If you were not there and plan to attend it would be a good idea to let Kevin know. The meeting date is earlier in the month than usual so don t let the date slip past you. Kevin suggested that, members drive one of their collector Cadillacs and drive as a group to lunch. To reach the location from the west turn on Baur Blvd from Lindbergh Blvd., then quickly make a right on to Andes Blvd. and follow around the loop until it becomes Ambassador Blvd. From the east access Baur Blvd from N. After browsing among the cars in the main showroom, Jon Faust, our host, opened the doors to the adjacent building where maintenance and restoration work is performed. There we were able to look at some interesting automobiles (including several Cadillacs) in various stages of work. After browsing among the projects we went back to the main showroom where some sandwiches, snacks, and drinks were provided by the club and soon thereafter began the business meeting. Kevin Williams, our director, asked Jon the tell us something about the business. Jon said they normally have from 110 to 125 cars on site. They prefer to buy cars for resale, but occasional take cars on consignment if that is what works best for the seller. When they own the cars they are offering for sale they can perform any mechanical or cosmetic upgrades needed to best present the car for sale. They also rent storage space for collector cars. Kevin discussed the upcoming September meeting plans. See the 7irst paragraph. Ted Fivian gave his treasurer s report and talked about the October annual car show. Ted said we are going to be a little squeezed for space compared to previous years as they are only going to let us use about half of the space we usually have. We sometimes have a peak attendance of 30 to 35 vehicles and have typically

2 parked with an empty space between each car. Our new restricted area will hold 45 cars without the luxury of empty spaces between, so we will be able to manage, but it may take a little maneuvering to make it work. Todd Tobiasz spoke about a caravan to Spring- 7ield, IL he has arranged along with the Spirit Region of the Classic Car Club for the dates of October 20 and 21. To reserve a spot call or Todd by September 21. See the attached 7lyer for details and contact information for Todd. Marc McCullough described a cruse arranged by the Horseless Carriage Club for October 14 for which our club is invited to participate. The cruse will be to a location near Cuba, MO with a stop for a meal. It will be necessary to sign up and pay in advance by October 7 if you wish to participate. I did not get down all of the details of this event. Marc was hoping someone from our club would take charge of coordinating our participation, but there were no volunteers. So, the only thing I can suggest is that if you are interested and want more details call Marc at Allan Franz mentioned an auction that will be held at a date, yet to be established, that will include the automobiles owned by former member Richard Muehlmann, who passed away a couple of years ago, as well as about 25 other cars. Richard owned a number of classics including several beautiful LaSalles and Packards. The auction will be held at the Schumacher Auction Company, 1436 East Main in Belleville, IL Phone number Allan suggested anyone interested telephone before going over to try to see the cars. Your editor mentioned that he was out driving on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago when he spotted a 1952 or 1953 Cadillac parked in a repair shop lot. I looked in my glove compartment to see if I still had any of the business cards inviting Cadillac owners to investigate our club. It turns out I did, but they were old and still gave former director Noel Wilson as the contact person. I had some new cards make up with up to date information. A few people took some, but many did not. I will bring them to future meetings and see if anyone else wants some. Movie Cars: Several other region editors send me copies of their monthly newsletters. One of these is Vince Taliano of the Potomac Region. In his August issue he included some still photos of a 1947 Cadillac Series 75 chasing some evil doers in a 1950 Plymouth. They were from a 1951 movie called Roadblock that was show on TMC. Like Vince I often check TMC in the evenings to see what is showing. I look for movies from the late 40s or early 50s that sometimes have interesting cars in action-the cars I remember on the road during my youth. The other night I watched a movie made in 1948 staring Virginia Mayo called Smart Girls Don t Talk. Most of the cars were ordinary, 47 Ford police cars for example, but at one point the gang boss came out of his building and got in what I believe was a 38 Cadillac Town Car with dual side mounts and canopy over the chauffeur s compartment. Later he was seen driving a 42 or 47 Lincoln Continental convertible. A few nights later I watched The Big Sleep which I had seen several times before. There are lots of old cars involved in the action but most pretty ordinary. Bogart, in his private detective role, always drives a 37 or 38 Plymouth coupe. In one brief scene the dame, Lauren Bacall, pulls up in a 46 or 47 Cadillac. If you enjoy seeing these cars when they were in everyday use and not in a museum I recommend these old movies. PS, Just read that Aretha Franklin s body was transported from the funeral home in a white 40 LaSalle hearse.
