1 ART VISIT TO PARIS OCTOBER 2014 Dear Parent/Guardian, We are now just a few weeks away from our journey to Paris and I am writing to inform you of the details. I will be leading the visit accompanied by Miss Marshall also from the Art Department, Mr Delaney from the Language Department and Mr Kirk from the English Department. We will be travelling with European Study Tours on a Pulhams Executive Coach and our accommodation in Paris will be at the St Christopher s Inn Hostel, Gare Du Nord. Emergency numbers: European Study Tours Pulham & Sons / St Christopher s Inn Hostel Students must meet at 05.45am in the DSHS Bus Bay for a prompt 6.00am departure. Our expected itinerary is as follows: DAY 1 FRIDAY 24TH OCTOBER Meet coach, report to your allocated visit leader, show your passport and load luggage. Do not bring an excessive amount of luggage as you will have to load it on and off the coach yourself and carry it into the hostel etc. Do not bring expensive electrical items with you such as lap tops as in the case of loss or damage they will not be covered by our insurance policy. Please also make sure that personal items such as cameras or i pods are kept securely on your person at all times and are covered by your own personal insurance. You should bring a smaller piece of hand luggage onto the coach with you to carry snacks and refreshments for the journey as well as your PASSPORT and EHIC.

2 Do bring comfortable clothes and shoes and bring something waterproof. Average temperatures for Paris in October is around 12 degrees but it could well feel colder on the Seine and up the Montparnasse Tower so it would make sense to wear layers. Do also bring your own towel and toiletries and don t forget your swimwear! Depart DSHS Depart Dover for Calais Approx. 3 DAY 2 SATURDAY 25TH OCTOBER 2014 Breakfast at Hostel Tour Montparnasse Tour Maine Montparnasse, also commonly named Tour Montparnasse, is a 210 metre (689 ft.) office skyscraper located in the Montparnasse area of Paris, France. The 56th floor and the terrace on the top floor are open to the public for viewing the city and that is where we are going approx. Bateaux Parisiens, Seine River Cruise Musee d Orsay, 1, rue de la Legion d Honneur Paris The Musée d'orsay is a museum in Paris, France, on the left bank of the Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'orsay, a Beaux Arts railway station built between 1898 and The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of impressionist and post impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin and Van Gogh. Note: Although entrance to the Museum is free we will have to pay a group booking charge on arrival so that we can enter straight away and avoid the queues. Therefore each student will need to contribute 2 Euros in cash 1630 Evening meal at Chez Clement Versailles 407 Rue Vaugirard, From Aquaboulevard de Paris, 4, rue Louis Armand, Paris It is the biggest urban water park in Europe, boasting two wave pools, 11 giant water slides, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, against the current rivers and a proper 4,000 m2 stretch of sandy beach dotted with more than 30 straw huts imported from Mauritius, plus a whole slew of water games. The bad news; everyone must wear swimwear, boys will need to wear swimming trunks or Boxer style trunks, long shorts are not allowed! DAY 3 SUNDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2014 Breakfast at Hostel Check out of your rooms Depart for Disneyland Paris. Day in the Disney parks Halloween at Disney! Become suitably spooked, as Disneyland Paris becomes happily haunted for Halloween with cheerful chills around every corner!! Evening meal at King Ludwig s Castle

4 Disney Village Tel Depart for Calais. DAY 4 MONDAY 27TH OCTOBER Arrive at Calais and proceed to the P&O Ferry Terminal Depart Calais for Dover Arrive in Dover Approx. Arrive at Droitwich Spa High School bus stop and make your own way home. In emergency you will be able to contact me on , however during school hours your first port of call should be our school reception on Your Son/Daughter will not need an excessive amount of Euros with them, they will need enough to cover a meal on the ferry on Friday, (or they can bring packed lunch), a midday lunch on the Saturday and a midday lunch in Disney on the Sunday. There will be gift shops at the 2 Museums and of course they may want to buy souvenirs at Disneyland. VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR PARENTS Next Thursday 9 th October I will be situated in the School Main Reception Area between 3.30 and 5.00pm. Please either visit yourself or send your child with their passport and EHIC so that I am able to photocopy them both for safety reasons prior to our departure. 5 Code of Conduct Contract 1. On the journey to and from Paris students are expected to listen to and follow instructions, and to report to their staff at the appropriate time. 2. Students must listen to the emergency bus procedures and be aware of what they may need to do. They must wear seat belts when the bus is moving for their safety. 3. All activities will be supervised by staff who will expect students to follow instructions at all times. 4. Students will not be allowed out of the hotel on their own. 5. The use and buying of recreational drugs whilst on the trip is obviously forbidden for all members of the group. There should be no cigarette smoking. The purchase and /or consumption of alcohol is forbidden for all students. 6. Students are expected to behave well and listen to their instructions. They must follow the instructions of DSHS staff and any other person in authority who is working to make their trip a memorable one, e.g. hotel staff, instructors or bus drivers. Students should not play dangerous jokes on each other or dare each other to do potentially dangerous stunts at any time. 7. We are all hoping to have a really enjoyable trip to Paris. I am convinced that students will all be brilliantly behaved and we shall return to Droitwich Spa with very positive memories of our time in Paris. I understand that if I follow the code of conduct outlined, there will be no need to invoke sanctions. However if there is a deliberate breach of this code, particularly where the health and safety of an individual or the group is concerned, action will be taken by staff. This may include appropriate

6 punishment during the trip, result in a ban from future trips or ultimately to be collected and return home early.
