This will give time to pack the coaches and say our farewells. Coaches will depart from Sils RFC, Warwick Road and this is where we need you to bring the pupils please NOT TO ARDEN. There will be limited car parking there, so please consider sharing lifts. THE JOURNEY We will be travelling with Astons Coaches and Brittany Ferries P&O Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen; for the return ferry it will be P&O Ferries from Calais to Folkestone. Please ensure that pupils have eaten some breakfast before departure and they MUST bring a packed lunch with them. NO NUT OR NUT SNACKS ARE ALLOWED AND NO ENERGY DRINKS TO BE BROUGHT OR BOUGHT. Please send your child with some sterling if you would like them to buy snacks on the outward or return journeys. The first meal provided will be DINNER on the Monday on the ferry. Pupils should be advised not to eat too many sweets on the journey, especially if they experience travel sickness! Rubbish bags will be available for them and they will be expected to use them. 5 POCKET MONEY Pocket Money Leaders will keep the pocket money for all pupils to prevent the loss of their money and a small amount will be signed out to the pupils each day. CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT Pupils are allowed one large bag or suitcase and one item of hand luggage. Pupils must be able to carry their own luggage. (Please attach a named luggage label to your large piece of luggage.) Staff and drivers will organise the packing of the coach. Do not put packed lunches or medication required during the journey in the main item of luggage. Once packed, these cases will not be available until arrival at the accommodation. Pupils should bring their own travel sickness tablets if they require them. Make sure that your luggage goes on the correct coach. Coach details will be displayed in the front of each coach. A clipboard is useful. Other equipment, clothing and provisions:
6 Casual clothes (the weather can be varied, pupils should bring suitable clothing for bad as well as good weather). Remember, this is not a fashion show. Alarm clock Plastic bags for dirty clothes Small back pack (one between 4 can be useful for packed lunches etc.) Snacks for the journey Adapter for continental sockets (if bringing electrical equipment such as a hairdryer). Spare medicines held at school will be taken by staff for this visit, but students should carry their own emergency medication. In case of illness, students may be allowed to remain at the accommodation with supervision. Students will be accompanied to the doctor or to the hospital if appropriate. 7 BEHAVIOUR Discipline and respect for others is of utmost importance. Pupil rooms must not be regarded as social areas there is plenty of room in the accommodation where pupils can sit and chat. In the interests of the safety, welfare and enjoyment of everyone, we would ask you to observe the following guidelines on supervision: The Party Leader is in Loco Parentis at all times and has ultimate sanction to withdraw children at any time from the programme. Pupils are required to adhere to the Pupil Code of Conduct which should have been signed and handed in already. Failure to re-join the group at specified times during the visit will be treated as a serious issue. No going in the sea if in vicinity of/free time on the beach AN EDUCATIONAL VISIT The Year 7 trip is an educational visit and pupils should expect to have language tuition and to receive background information on the places and sights that they will visit. Pupils are therefore asked to bring pen and paper; a clip board is also useful. Pupils will be encouraged to practise their language skills by purchasing stamps, ice creams etc in France. They will also complete some written work during their visit. Appreciating a different culture is also part of the educational experience of the trip. Pupils should be considerate and polite when encountering things which they consider to be different. In particular, we would ask all pupils to try the food which is provided for them. It appears very rude to return large amounts of food uneaten.
8 The trip is also a good social experience for the pupils and its success depends on strong teamwork. Pupils as well as adults are expected to contribute to this. We cannot afford selfishness and we can only do things quickly, efficiently and safely if the whole group works as a unit. SHOPPING One of the most popular activities on the trip is an opportunity for pupils to delight in shopping abroad and to use their language skills. To this end, pupils will be allowed free-time in small towns for a maximum period of 1 hour. Pupils must remain in groups of a minimum of 4. Pupils will be made aware of where a responsible adult can be found at all times in case of any problems. Pupils will also be given a LOST CARD that advises their Leader s mobile number for use in emergencies only (in case of getting lost or accidents). There are various items which pupils must not take on the trip, purchase there or try to bring back. These include: Alcohol Cigarettes and lighters Drugs or drug related implements Knives Cap-guns, fire crackers Flick combs or other which may resemble flick knives BB Guns
