2 WWI Battlefields Visit Visit Objectives We believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability and circumstances. 3 Equipment list Passport - Inhalers, medicines if needed. All students travelling must hold a full passport. This should be ready and available when getting on the bus or you don t get on!!! Wellington boots and a couple of plastic bags. Waterproof coat. Sensible footwear but easy to get in and out of. Pocket money in Euros- approx 20 (if you want to buy Mum chocolate). Scarf, hat, warm coat, gloves and thick socks (we have had snow before/wind and rain). Winter clothes- old jeans/ jumpers/ warmest clothes as it is going to be cold and possibly muddy, so if it costs 100s of s leave it at home! A towel. Packed lunch, and water/juice. Ipods/ phones etc can be carried- however these items will be your own responsibility. If you do, remember a charger with adaptor. HARIBO IS NOT BREAKFAST!!!!!

9 Sanctuary Wood Museum and Hill 62 This visit shows wellpreserved original British Army trenches in an area known as Sanctuary Wood. The museum consists of two rooms housing artefacts and photographs from WWI.

18 Langemark German Cemetery A somber, foreboding place, this cemetery contains the bodies of more than 40,000 German troops, over half of whom lie in a mass grave.

19 Tyne Cot British Cemetery Tyne Cot Cemetery is the resting place of 11,956 soldiers, and is the largest British cemetery in the world. The panels in the rear wall hold the names of 34,888 missing soldiers. Designed by Sir Herbert Baker, the aim is to create the appearance of an English churchyard.

26 Expectations & Discipline We expect you all to behave: Many of the places we are visiting are cemeteries. You will need to show respect. Trenches could be dangerous, so no running. You need to pay attention as the traffic works on the other side. When our guide is telling you things it is polite to listen and not talk. You need to follow instructions straight away. If you can t behave then you will have quality coach and visit time with me. In extreme cases you will be placed in a bed room by yourself and evening free time will be taken away. We will also follow this up back in school.
