1 NAME: GROUP A THE 2017 SWCHS SKI TRIP GRESSONEY ITALY FEB 11 th 18 th 2017 Dear Parent /Guardian & Skier, FINAL DETAILS & TRAVEL ITINERARY Please take time to read carefully through the following information. Some of the information may be repeated from earlier correspondence but the travel itinerary in particular is of the utmost importance and it is vital that you are fully informed and prepared. The YELLOW sheet attached to the back of this, the final itinerary for the 2017 ski trip, needs to be completed and returned to me by return or at the earliest opportunity. The itinerary is also available on the SWCHS ski trip website there is also a link from the SWCHS home page YOUR CHILD IS ON FLIGHT A Details below (44 students/ 5 staff) Sat 11 th Feb - meet at STANSTED AIRPORT DEPARTURES at 6.45am Report to Mr Edwards Other staff Mr Smith, Mrs Wilkinson, Miss Gilbert, Mrs Edwards 11 th Feb Outward Flight FR8729 Stansted Milan Malpensa Dep Arrive It is essential that students are brought to STANSTED AIRPORT DEPARTURES at the meeting time clearly indicated above. 2 ACCOMMODATION DETAILS HOTEL MONBOSO Localita Staffal, Tache AO ITALY Tel No (From UK) NB. The students will be out of the hotel every day from around 8:45am to 5.00pm. The Hotel reception staff will have mobile telephone numbers for SWCHS staff so in case of real emergency you should be able to get in touch at any time of the day. Towels are provided in rooms Breakfast, lunch and dinner at hotel (all included) 1 st meal is Dinner on Saturday Last meal Breakfast Saturday 18 th with a packed lunch provided (Final day details TBC) ROOMING Composition of rooms always creates a little bit of tension but we think we ve managed to get most/all students into rooms with friends or peers of the same age etc. We reserve the right to make changes if necessary and need to emphasise that students will be expected to maintain the rooms in good order. Students should note that electric sockets in the rooms are limited (so a multi-point charger might be useful for electrical gadgets) and that wifi access is free but limited to the public areas downstairs, lounge, bar, TV room etc. A fantastic way to wean themselves off the mobile phone culture! THE WEBSITE We hope to update the website with photos and information each evening (Wifi dependant) Please feel free to contribute to the message board. We will try and pass these on to the students. Web address you can also access it via the school website and clicking the link to the Ski Trip from the links page. RULES Listen carefully to all instructions from staff. To include flight staff, hotel staff, ski school staff etc, etc. Behave sensibly at all times with respect for other members of the public. Stay with the party through airports and throughout the journey. Headcounts will be taken regularly. Travel groups have been allocated. Aim to make a positive contribution to the trip at all times. Treat everyone associated with the trip with respect. SPENDING MONEY If you would like staff to hold spending money it needs to be given to Mr Smith (PE office) preferably before the day of departure, but they will take it at the airport or during the trip. It needs to be in a named, sealed envelope with the amount written clearly on the outside. Euros only please. The bank operates daily from around 6pm to 7pm every evening and ensures that your child s spending money is safe and indeed lasts the week. Gressoney is a very small village with few spending options
3 OTHER INFORMATION SWCHS staff cannot be responsible for luggage check in issues such as excess baggage or banned / restricted items. Full details can be found on the Ryanair website or call me at school. We will of course deal with all problems but any additional costs incurred will be payable by the students/families. LATE PACKING INFO Ski Trip Tradition is that Wednesday night dinner dress code includes a checked shirt! On previous occasions the last days skiing has seen students wearing a onesie over their ski gear, fine by me! If you have room why not pack a board game, pack of cards, book or similar VALUABLES Obviously the responsibility of each individual Mobile phones are not covered by the insurance policy Any losses must be reported to a member of SWCHS staff immediately. COACH TRANSFER Take snacks for the coach trip transfer from the airport to resort (Approx 2 hours) IPods / MP3 players etc must be used with earphones on the coach and on the aircraft. CONTACTS Pre Trip SWCHS ext 224 PE Office Fax cedwards@swchs.net STAFF Group A Mr Edwards, Mr Smith, Mrs Wilkinson, Miss Gilbert, Mrs Edwards Group B Mr Millership, Mr Sindell, Miss Naylor, Mrs Stokes, Mrs Ledwith, Mr Scott,, Mr Sanders, Mr Furze, Mrs Millership The November Ski Information Pack (distributed at the information evening or by post) itinerary and other information is accessible on the website. The site will remain active throughout the duration of the trip allowing those of you at home to sample the atmosphere and perhaps even communicate with / contribute to, the trip. The first time skiers have taken their first tentative steps at Welwyn Garden City. Snow has recently fallen in the resort Much of the paperwork is completed and with only 2 weeks to go we can all start looking forward to a hard but very enjoyable week on the piste. Having visited the resort on numerous occasions and indeed stayed at the Hotel Monboso, I am confident that we will have another excellent weeks skiing. SWCHS enjoys an excellent reputation with our ski company hotels and I would expect that this year s group will help maintain it.
4 Meals All meals are taken at the hotel and are buffet style Breakfast - cereals, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, ham, cheese, bacon, toast, rolls, etc, a full range Lunch Ski back to hotel Salad, pasta, meat, vegetables, chips, again an excellent range Dinner - As above (lunch) pm Attendance at all mealtimes is compulsory every day for all students. Skiing The skiing is mainly in the form of accessible reds and blues with the odd black. The lifts are approximately 200 metres from the hotel Skis and boots will be stored in the hotel boot room and each room will have its own locker key. A deposit of 5 Euros will be required from each room which will be returned at the end of the week on return of the locker key. Staff will coordinate all ski locker issues Après ski opportunities may include karaoke ice skating tubing/tobogganing dependent on conditions Cinema It goes without saying that it is essential that the behaviour of our students is of the highest standard. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and I would expect all students to represent themselves, and us, impeccably. The Hotel Monboso will be full at half term, mostly with Italian families. We are the only school party staying there. The hotel has a no smoking policy and we will be following the UK policy on the purchase and consumption of alcohol. SWCHS school trip rules expressly forbids students to consume alcohol at any time. The Hotel bar and local mini market have also been briefed regarding alcohol sales to our students. I hope your skier really appreciates the opportunity they have been given and that they make a positive contribution to the huge event that is the SWCHS Ski Trip. Please take 10 minutes to browse through the Ski-way Code with your son / daughter (see attached) NB. I have all passports, which I will keep until the day of departure, but am still awaiting EHIC s from a number of the party. Please could you get these to me ASAP. I will keep the passports until the departure date - Distributed at check in - Kept in safe in resort - Returned to student at airport on our return As always if you have any queries/issues please contact me at school or via cedwards@swchs.net Chris Edwards Ski Party Leader
