3 3 President s Message We are entering what is going to be an interesting and exciting year. As your new president, I look forward to the challenges of our expansion and keeping all our membership as up to date as possible as we move ahead. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Joanne and the previous Board of Directors for all their hard work to get us to this point. The present timeline for the expansion is becoming more certain; we are in the process of obtaining the necessary engineering drawings, hopefully by mid- April, to obtain our building permit. We are also entering into negotiations with Solution Based Contracting, a local company that can commence construction by June 1st, if all the necessary paperwork is in order. To accomplish this timetable, we have to start closing down parts of the Centre and emptying rooms prior to that date. We are aware that there are going to be disruptions and inconveniences to our activities and members. We are exploring alternatives to mitigate as much as possible these situations. It is tentatively intended to temporarily move the office to the Farish Room for the duration of the renovations. This will mean relocating the Treasurer, Day Director, and Activities Co-ordinator along with files and computers. It may be advantageous to explore bringing our computer network up to date at this time. A little about myself: I completed 25 years in the Canadian Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. I then spent 18 years in the trucking industry. I retired to a small community in central BC but ended up as a First Responder and Village Councillor. I have served on the executives of several boards from sports to service organizations. Please feel free to reach out to me with your concerns and ideas, this is your Centre. Wayne A. 7 7 Funtastics? Audiences once again gave rave reviews to the Funtastics 9 th annual show at the Centre. Live music from Ken Johnson, Boyd Norman and John Rule enhanced the singers performances with favourite songs from Hollywood Musicals. The enthusiastic audiences responded to comedy numbers, live action skits, moving romantic ballads, and rousing dances. The 50/50 was a great success, with each winner receiving more than $ The show involved more than 50 members of the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre. The crew is made up of Production Team, Decoration Team, Backstage Crew and Front of House Team. They have worked with the cast since January to put this fantastic show together. Our sponsors always play a vital role in financing the production. Thank you so much to these businesses for supporting a totally local show with participants from Pender to Langdale. At the finale, the audience, cast and crew joined as one to sing Together from the musical Gypsy.
