3 President's Report 2013 has been an eventful year for the Top Generation Club. We continued our favourite activities and tried some new ones. The programme committee report will detail these events. In January we took part in the CSCA Winter Carnival by sponsoring a euchre; some of us participated in other events as well. This is a beginning but as yet, we haven't made too many contacts with our neighbouring seniors' organizations. Our survey last January looked at the perception our members have of our facility. The executive was gratified to hear the many positive attributes the members found. Of course there were improvements suggested and we have been able to act on many of them. The City of Ottawa has been instrumental in helping us accomplish a number of major tasks: redoing the floor in kitchen, bathrooms, hall and foyer; painting the exterior wood on hall and shed; painting parking markings and the ramp railings; replacing some pressure treated wood along flower beds; painting interior of hall. These undertakings would not have possible without the work of Mr. Ted Keyes and his team. As well, our most frequent renter, the Gloucester Horticultural Society, refreshed the flower beds designed for us some years ago. This involved the removal of overgrown material, upgrading the soil, planting new shrubs and flowers and installing a new retaining barrier on the east side. Our thanks go to the society and especially to Fleurette Huneault and Margaret Don who were responsible for the hard work. We are looking forward to the completion of our plans when a wall is built to enclose the water tank and a cupboard is built in the foyer to hold trash cans, brooms and snow shovels. This work is planned for early in All of this activity will make our premises very inviting when we celebrate the Club's 40th Anniversary next June. A committee was struck last spring and is working to prepare for this event. A party will be held on Saturday, June 28 for current, former and potential members as well as representatives from civic and community organizations. Laurel Sherrer, assisted by the Gloucester Historical Society, is helping us to compile a book of memories which will be for sale. Our membership has grown slightly this year but sadly we have lost Clinton Smith and Ed Reepschlager. Their warm personalities and enthusiastic game playing skills are missed; our sympathy is extended to both families. I look forward to being your president for one more year. Thank you for the support you have all given to me and the whole executive. Best wishes for Bev Whyte

8 Secretary s Report It is my pleasure to present the 2013 Annual Report that highlights key achievements and challenges faced by the Top Generation Club during the period of 1 January to 31 December Organizational changes Bruce Kettles, a Member at Large, left the club to pursue his interests at another organization. His position on the club s executive was not filled. His role as one of the primary contacts in our Communication Chain was divided between the other primary contacts. Emma Smith, the Use of Hall Chairperson, stepped down from booking reservations late in the year. She wanted to be active so she is still the person renters visit to pick up and return the clubhouse key. I took over booking reservations until another Use of Hall Chairperson is elected. Dorothy Durham, Treasurer, graciously kept her role this past year, but is stepping down from the executive in Russell and Helen Jones will relinquish the procurement duties for the club effective January Our cupboards are well stocked, the monthly birthday cake as well as other supplies are purchased. Dorothy Durham volunteered to take over as Procurement agent. I am both Vice President and Secretary. The executive feels that electing another Secretary in 2014 will allow me to focus on my role as Vice President as well as provide assistance during the transition year. People working together A new home was found for our upright piano that was no longer being used. It was removed from the hall early in December by professional piano movers and is now happily being played at its new home, the Elmdale Tavern, Ottawa. Kijiji, an online classifieds ads website, linked us up. A Mitten Tree was created and 65 pairs of mittens and several hats and scarves were knitted by our members and displayed on branches. These were donated to less fortunate families through a local church. Our neighbours at Harvest House Ministries, a not for profit organization, rehabilitate men who are chemically dependent, to instill in them selfdiscipline, and to reintegrate them into society. Several of the men routinely cut our grass, remove snow from the walkway, and check the interior of the building. We provide hamburgs and desserts for our annual joint BBQ held at the house, invite them to join us for lunch and tell their story, purchase their products, and recognize their contributions.
9 Personally, this period has been another opportunity for getting a deeper sense of the work and understanding better the details and the wholeness of the club and of the fellowship I represent both as a member of the Top Generation Club and its executive. I believe I can safely say that in 2013 more of our members got involved makes the club shine. Joan Goyette Use of Hall Chairperson s Report The Top Generation Clubhouse rented on 23 occasions during In March, the club s executive reviewed, documented, and approved guidelines, rental rates for reservations held by non- and Top Generation Club members, instructions for renting the hall, and introduced a client satisfaction survey. The consensus of the renters who completed and returned the survey is that they get good value for the money they spend to rent our hall. We hope to generate more rentals during 2014 since our building and grounds rejuvenated. With our 40th anniversary celebration on the horizon, additional reservations may result! I took over booking reservations late in the year when Emma Smith, the elected Use of Hall Chairperson, stepped down. Emma is still the person renters visit to pick up and return the clubhouse key. Emma and I are looking forward to coaching the new Use of Hall Chairperson, following the 2014 Annual General Meeting. Joan Goyette
