3 Hoof Beats by the Club President Hopefully you are all enjoying Spring time and the extra hour of day light which means MORE horse rides, RIGHT??? May 22, 2016 brings our Big Horse Show to town. Hopefully you re helping spread the word or preparing to compete or help. Please contact me if you have an extra hour or two to help us with the Show. The biggest need for help would come from a few earlier risers, who can help with setting up at 6:30 AM as everything needs to be complete before the Showtime at 8 AM. We also need help throughout the day. Membership Renewal Now Due Put a YLCR Annual Membership in a Family member, Friends, or for Mother s Day! Our next General Meeting is Wednesday, May 4, at 7 PM. We will not be in our regular room, but will instead be in Activity Room B. Pizza, drinks, and snacks will be served and we hope to see you there. I m still waiting to confirm a speaker, come join the FUN as someone in the audience will win a nice prize. In the last newsletter we announced our victory regarding stopping the ETCO apartments on the lakebed. We knew they d be back with a new project and that has happened. We will present more details at our meeting on ETCO and several other City projects and happenings. In a nut shell, ETCO is now considering a Senior Housing project for this location. We feel this will gain support from the neighbors because it mitigates the 2 biggest concerns most people had with the apartments, traffic, and lakebed use. This will be extreme senior, memory care type living, so the only cars will be staff and visitors and the seniors will most likely not be walking the lakebed. We are still waiting for a final draft of the facility, but since the City buying the 5 acre parcel seems to be out of the question, this may be the next best option. Please know that the Preserve YL Leaders wanted nothing more than to preserve this piece of land, make it a park, or to keep it as is but after checking with many we were assured that something WILL eventually be approved so why not try to make it something we can all live with?? Again, please attend the meeting on May 4th for more details and other important City News. Our Spring Casper s Camp Out went well for a small mighty group. We will plan to go again in the Fall, and we are also attempting to ride the last Sunday of each month. Watch your s for more details. Also, keep an eye on the Old Gun Club Road, currently under construction but soon to be open, as equestrian trail with a staging area and a separate walking/hiking trail from Yorba Linda Blvd. to Bastanchury. A quick note on Judy Holck s recovery, she continues to improve daily. She is walking and communicating better each day, like I said originally, if anyone can beat the odds its Judy. Please continue your prayers for her and to Dave as she comes home this month.. Happy Trails, Dee Dee Member Alert! If you have a horse stall(s) or know of any in Yorba Linda, please call or club president Dee Dee Friedrich. She has received several calls from people looking to board their horse(s) in Yorba Linda. 3
4 Showing Lead Line What s Up on the Trails! Ribbon Cutting Black Gold Cadelyn, 21 months, with her Mother Courtney showing lead line at Orange Acres Park. Bogart Park Cherry Valley, California The Equestrian Community is invited to a ribbon cutting with Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer, on May 3, All participants are to meet at the Augustine Staging Area and ride out at 7:00 am. It would be great if the Yorba Linda Country could be represented. You may contact Bob directly or Dee Dee or Calvin for instructions of signing up for this great event! 14 YLCR riders & horses set out to be seen in Yorba Linda. It was a beautiful day and we were met with a lot of hand waves, a few honks. See page 7 for more. (Above to the right ) Sarah, a Register Vet. 7 YLCR hits the local trails in YL Large YLCR heads out on the local trails (left to right) Jeff, Lana, Carolyn, Lauren, Grace, Libby, and Judy.. Not pictured are Roni, Dee Dee, Peggy, Linda, Heather & Savannah (continued from page 4 - Black Gold Hills) and many pulling over in their cars to take pictures of us. In the photo on page 4, we were headed up Lakeview adjacent the Black Gold homes. It s funny as we showed up on Facebook, many thinking this was a BIG DEAL and saying they never see us. So we explained that we are still riding but we usually try to stay from the streets and busy crossings. It was such a big success, we plan to ride the last Sunday of each month. Some rides in Yorba Linda and some we ll trailer out to new adventure rides, JOIN THE FUN Come join us to make some friends & horse memories of your own. Ronald W.
