THAT is the big question and is up to debate. Your input is important here Page!2

3 Chapter MI-G Director s News Rodney DeJonge/Dar Koza RODAR S CORNER On the 30th of December a few of us decided to slip and slide our way up to Turk Lake Restaurant and Bar in Greenville. Wanted to have one last get together before the end of the year. There were 16 of us that showed up. That was a pretty good size group for as bad as the roads were. It was sunny, but very cold and icy. Our first breakfast of the new year was January 6 at New Beginnings on Northland Dr. We didn t go there at all in December so we gave Christine, the waitress there, a belated Christmas card with some. Had a good turn out for that too of 20 members. We had a chili cook off on the 20th. There were 13 of us with 6 pots of chili to vote on. All were different and very tasty, but the winner was Jane Ungrey who won a free breakfast from the chapter. Earlier that afternoon, Scott and Rodney took about a 30 to 40 mile bike ride. The sun was shining and it was in the low 40 s, but windchill was only in the 30 s. A little too cool for me. On January 27, Scott, Rodney and I braved the 41 degree temperature and rode our bikes to breakfast at Big Boy on Pearl St. Later in the afternoon Howard met up with those two(minus me/too cold again)and went for a ride down to Gull Lake. The sun came out but the temperature came down during the day and it was really windy. They put about 100 miles on their bikes. Loving this January thaw weather but looks like February is going to be coming back with the snow and cold. Last year we got at least 4 days of riding in. We ll see what this year brings. Have a HAPPY VALENTINES DAY Also on February 14th, 35 years ago Chapter MI-G received its Charter so we can celebrate that too. Congratulations go out to Bob & Jane Ungrey for receiving their Senior Chapter Educator Award. Quality work like that keeps our chapter a great chapter. Page!3

4 Chapter Ride Coordinator BOB UNGREY MI-G Rider Ed Greetings, Hope all of you had a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. We all start the new year saying we're going to make some life changes or maybe even a small one or two. We lets say that GWRRA National, District and Chapter will be making some changes in Gone is the Chapter Rider Educator, but don't fret, the new title is Chapter Ride Coordinator. Namely, yours truly. How ever there's a lot of s going back in forth and the dust hasn't settled yet. Here is a condensed version of an dated Wednesday, January 10th from Dennis and Felicia Schulte. For those of you reading this who are Chapter Educators who haven't gotten your N-6 Rider Education Activity Report submitted, please do so. (Already done)! This is your last one to complete for us; your last requirement under the title of Chapter Educator. We are very grateful for the short time we've had to be your Michigan District Educators, and are even more grateful for all of the years that you've given to GWRRA as Chapter Educators. As such, do not expect your Chapter Educator log-in to allow you into the Rider Education database. We will still have access in order to process Levels Forms. At the current time, it is our understanding that each member is to be responsible for their own Levels. (Please don't worry, I'll work with our Chapter). Forms are being updated as we speak, and will be available to all online at some point in time. Each member may go into GWRRA Rider Education to the tab labeled My R.E. to view their Rider Education information. All levels forms are to come to us by at michridered@gmail.com or by mail to 1498 Sand Beach Road, Bad Axe, MI Please complete them carefully and if patches or pins are requested, then mail is preferable so that a check made payable to GWRRA-A Michigan may be sent at the same time. Again since it has been our Chapter policy to pay for expenses for pins and patches, we ll continue to do so. So please work with me and I'll make sure Jim Hake cuts the necessary check. The Officers Handbook as well as the Rider Education Handbook have been rewritten and are in the clearing process. They will be posted to the GWRRA website whenever available with a new date beside them. Levels forms have also been rewritten and will be posted with a new revision date. Again, changes are being make by National Office and although we will also be monitoring the website, there will be days when changes are made. If you cannot find what you know was there before, please let us know and we'll search also. Continued on next page Page!4

5 Chapter Ride Coordinator BOB UNGREY MI-G Rider Ed continued The wheels are slowly turning, but I did find out that Brent and Sandy Blackburn will be our "New" District Ride Coordinator. My boss that I'll be working with. From the Chapter point of view, they want me to focus more on "Rides" and less on paperwork. My monthly articles will continue, but read closely as there will be not only safety, education material, but a "Ride of the Month" breakdown. Please be patient as we all work through the "New" process. I look forward to my new role and if you have any safety issues or rides that you'd like us to take a look at, please let me know, remember this is your Chapter, I'm just a gear in making this move along smoothly. Until next month, Ride safe and keep warm. Respectfully Submitted Your New Chapter Ride Coordinator Bob Ungrey Those due to update their ARC certification in 2018 are: Howard Stob, Ezra Bostic, Marilynn Bostic, Rex Derksen, Shela Derksen 2-UP, Rodney DeJonge, Mike Nosanov, Scott Klein, Jim Hake, Pat Prost As soon as I find out the dates, I ll let you know. 9 Opinion Page Marilynn sent these for you to solve. Here are some interesting riddles & puzzles to see if the old gray matter remains nimble! 1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him? 2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be? 3. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you throw it away? 4. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday? 5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching! Simple Common Sense Brain Test (think then) Q1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator? Q2. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator? Q3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All of the animals attend, except one. Which animal does not attend? Q4. There is a river you must cross, but it is inhabited by crocodiles. How do you manage it? THE ANSWERS: Page 8 Page!9
